    To those telling that the meeting was pointless... It was a show of strength from both sides. Both kings realised that if they wanted to win they would have to sacrifice most of their army. Meaning that in the end noone would win. Its the common sense of prudence that characterised both great kings. That's why this scene was so awesome.

    • @jimmyprimetime1050
      @jimmyprimetime1050 3 года назад +125

      People saying it was pointless are literally the same people urging the US to build more nukes and military craft as a deterrent of war. It makes sense to them until they don't want it to make sense.

    • @christophersanchez7731
      @christophersanchez7731 3 года назад +47

      Of course it wasn’t pointless, a war was averted if only for a while, because both sides have Kings that are wise and respectful
      The Crusades may not have happened and a more peaceful Middle East might have been achieved if more medieval rulers Was like them.
      A different Crusades King would have fought without respect to the other Side or regarding the consequences, as most of this era would have likely reacted that way.
      But those two represented the best the Crusades needed. As for a moment Christianity and Islam during a time they’re a holy war, have found some peace

If Baldwin had never had leprosy and reigned without ailment, the kingdom of Jerusalem may well have endured for his life-time. But as it was in history as well as this story, his death brought upon them a haste to fight when their situation was tenuous and unstable. Hattin ultimately was an unbidden battle for Saladin, but it did not mean he did not know how to use his enemy's rashness against them. Depriving Saladin of his open field battle was the wisest choice of Baldwin, and Guy's giving it to him was his greatest failure. To be fair, that depends on what one wants to get from a movie.
      Alexander, though horribly boring due to overdetailisaton and long cuts is **mostly** historically accurate and not politically biased.
      Kingdom of heaven is a much more entertaining movie.
      But from a historical point of view its just complete bullshit.
      AND! Its pretty biased showing crusaders only as these barbaric monsters hungry for blood, while showing muslims as these kind and progressive people who only defend their land.
      While in reality it was pretty gray, *both sides* were pretty much monsters.
      Not to mention that crusaders where also an answer to Muslim brutal expansion into Europe through Spain, Greece, Romania (I'm not saying muslims where worse. Only not better).
      So i would rather have both movies to be a mix between the two styles.
      Either historically accurate but entertaining, or, if there are changes to the story they should be just to make it more interesting.
      Not politically revisionist.

Later Christians were doing the same with the Holy Cross. If the cause was trully righteous the Lord grants His mercy. Russian Prince Alexander Nevsky defeated the crusaders on the Ice Lake, carrying a Cross with him when the Teutons invaded the territory of Russia. Later, the Generals of the Russian Empire also had a Cross in their mids when they defeated Napoleon. It always meant the world for the believers.
