Great video!! You should know that "Continuous AF" is still there but its been renamed to "Preview AF" its in the AF menu page 4...setting it to disable should greatly increase your battery life.
Fantastic comparison Vasko, I'm really glad I didn't get the R5 Mk II and I'm completely satisfied and super delighted with my new-to-me R5! I've shot one wedding and reception, a bridal shower, and tons of "regular" stuff like birds, pets, people, etc., and it's performed flawlessly!

The R5 is going to be an amazing camera for years to come. That sensor is so nice I don't see how Canon is going to beat it unless they jump to 60mp.

Sounds like you get to shoot some really fun things. The R5 is still a great camera and i'm sure it will still continue to be great for a lot more years.
Thank you for the truly honest video. I get tired of seeing review videos claiming to be objective but it's only their way to justify buying a new (and expensive) camera. My rules for buying new tech is simple and somewhat mirrors yours. Wait a few months after the camera is introduced to see if there's really a problem with the new gear reported by the early adopters. If you really want to see a significant upgrade, leapfrog at least one generation before you buy (if you can wait). This is especially true of smartphones where you should leapfrog at least 3-4 generations. Also, competition is fierce in the camera world and it may be wise to see how they (e.g. Nikon, Sony, Fuji, etc.) will respond/react to the R5 Mk 2.
The EOS R is still amazing. I often have my R5 rigged up for video shooting so I take the EOS R out when I shoot and it's still amazing. It's got the 5D mk4 pro sensor in there. :)
@@vaskoobscura_ You helped me make a decision to get into the EOS R. I'm still learning what I can do. Don't mind making a mistake as I learn from that. R6II was on the wish list but EOSR has been fantastic. Just deciding lenses for video next and maybe a long lense.

Thank you for a great and honest review. Sometimes, the latest and greatest, either all the bells and whistles is overkill. Especially when you look at the difference in price and consider the added price of batteries. I currently own 2 R6 bodies and an R7. I think I will get an R5i. It is a lot of camera for the $ and will enable me to perform aggressive crops in post.
If you use the image comparison tool on DPreview, then you cannot see any difference between those 2 camera's in RAW. In jpg, the R5II appears to be a little bit sharper but i think its because of the jpg engine in that camera.
I'm confused basically I have plan of getting R6 mark 2 just 4 months used with RF 24-105 4L and RF 100 2.8 + 256 GB card 300MB/s In 3465 USD. On the other hand R5mark2 is 4265 USD. I also don't have any lens. There are 2 options first is buy the 2 lens with R62 or 2nd option is R52 with Rf50 1.8... later on I'll upgrade my lens 24-105.. is it worth to sacrifice more money. I want 4,5 years future safe. If you're in my place what you'll do?? Is it good offer or suggest me any other option!!
With most tech it's usually NOT worth it to upgrade from the very previous model, you usually get more impressive jumps in features / quality and value by waiting longer and skipping a few models at least. I'm still using your old 5D Mark III :D Thinking about picking up a Mark IV now lol But I barely shoot. I'd think the reason they changed the Off / On / Video switch is because maybe it was more awkward to get to ON without worrying about overshooting and accidentally going to video mode when you don't want that. Battery life is going to suffer on those newer mirrorless cameras vs DSLR because you got the autofocus processor doing its thing all the time and the main draw is probably that they're using a screen viewfinder instead of just looking through the lens using a mirror, it's always kinda processing and displaying the image when it's on I think. Never had a mirrorless camera so not sure how it works but I assume that's what they do :D
Hmm, I perceive your discontent about the R52 batteries. I have seen others done shoots and video of a whole day with 2-3 batteries. Go to the bottom of that continuous AF and see how you can turn it off. Make that damn box work for you as you want! 😅😉 The small raw in 4K seems amazing, the IBIS is a bit better. A fantastic hybrid cam! For my sake, now I’ll save up for a used C70 (I think) aside for continue using my R5. These three new cameras R52, C80 and C400 will be a fantastic combo and system. Comparably to what get at these price points. I think it’s incredible 😀😀
Appreciate the comment. I found out after making this video that Canon changed the name of "Continuous AF" to "Preview AF" Now that I've disabled that feature I hope to get better battery life. I'll have to make a new video talking about power saving settings. Canon has come out with some really nice cameras this year. I'm hard on the R52 because I've been shooting with Canon gear for 20 years and my expectations are high. But they really have come out with some nice gear this year. The C80 looks like such cool camera. If only I had enough video clients to pay it off. I'm still 80% photo clients.
Yeah, I want to see that video when you have worked out the battery situation 💪. But I think that is good to have 80% photo clients. I find it easier to make profits with photo assignments than video especially when one is an experienced photographer. Less work in post. But it’s a great way to earn more money from each client.
Hey! Awesome video, thank you for your work. I did have one question though. When you compare image quality (at 11 min) Is the Mark one really on the right? You've got a green check mark on that side (indicating that this is the better one?) which I agree, the better image is on the right. Less pixelated, slightly sharper. But that's labeled as the mark i. I'm I just seeing things? Or were these mis-labeled? Also, the white of the image on the left looks just a slight pink? vs. the somewhat truer white of the back of the page on the right? Or is this just me? Again, not a criticism. WONDERFUL video.
