- On 31 December 1999, Queen Elizabeth II; Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh; Princess Anne, Princess Royal; and other members of the royal family joined British Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie Blair at the newly-opened Millennium Dome to see in the new year - and the new millennium. While the royals took a barge down the Thames to the venue, the Blairs and other members of the political establishment arrived by tube train.

Whether you adored or abhorred, Her Majesty, I think everyone can agree that she deserves an enormous amount of respect.
No one could possibly abhor her personally, she was a warm, funny and kind person. The institution of which she embodied through her reign is something that many oppose however
Well anyone that could abhor her late majesty or anyone probably can’t agree about respecting them.
But I think if you mean like whether they are supporters in general of the royal family that they still respected to work she did for so long.
Anyway, I can’t imagine anybody abhorring her. But she certainly did her perceived duty as well as literally written duties bus from the church and state and made it look easy. No matter how well loved the remaining members of the family are, there will never be another duo quite like the late Queen Elizabeth II and the duke of Edinburgh a.k.a. Prince Philip. They were really from a different era and as much as they adapted to the times, it’s kind of sad that some of the mystique and formality in dress and behavior is gone.
But that doesn’t mean the new way that’s somewhat more down to earth - especially when engaging with sick children or whatever charity they’re assisting at the time - isn’t a great thing because it is.
Respect for putting up with so many boring ceremonies but then we all paid her expenses...😂
It still breaks my heart whenever I see Her Majesty, as it reminds me how much I miss her; nonetheless it also reminds me how privileged I was to live through the majority of her extraordinary reign.
Same here
My hubby and me visited the UK in the 90's. The Stone of Scone was still under the throne inside Westminster Abby.
It was obvious the country loved her. It was infectious.
Watching this it's easy to think she never left...
She died, mate. Everyone will. Videos are great, hey?!
@jennymitchelson9356 well my mind is blown, I had no idea about any of that.. the point is, someone/something that is such a constant in life, such a symbol of our culture - it can be tricky to get used to when it's not there anymore.
I know exactly what you mean, it's still really hard getting used to her not being here, 48 years part of my life, seeing her in the public eye daily, she so missed too @@Dan.Dawson
3:5 Our Wonderful Queen will never leave our Land She will always be With us ❤
I have lived all of my life knowing her as the beloved Queen, and so it would reasonable that some still find themselves in disbelief at her death, even a year after, as with I.
The Queen had it right!
One only crosses arms on the second verse don’t you know.
I didn't know. Is that true?
@@pup1008In Scottland it is more traditional not to cross your arms, the Queen was of Scottish decent on her mother's side.

Ok, thank you for that. 👍
I miss her Majesty so very much Rest in Eternal Peace xxxxx
Elizabeth The Great ❤👸❤
Such an amazing woman, with her death and the upcoming abdication of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe of Denmark, We are truly stepping into a new era, May we continue to nurture the traditions of our forebears and embrace rather than shun, or be fearful of progress
Elizabeth the Great Baby Killer. Smh. Glad she's finally had her date with GOD!!!
Beautifully said!
Happy New Year to the late Queen and Happy New Year to King Charles III and Queen Camila.
I miss her!
I wander who came up with the millennium wheel with her... when they implemented that for the year 2000?..😇🙇♂️..Miss you both Your Majesty and Duke..❤️🇬🇧
Of course it was King Tony’s idea! 😜
And now the quarter century looms, 2025, time really does fly by quickly! 😮

😢😢😢😢
Lovely Video!😇💖🙏🍀💖🌍🙏
Awe this brought a tear to my eye ❤❤❤❤
Happy new year 2000 Memorable
I watched this at the time. I felt so sorry for the Queen.
I'm sorry, why?
@@carebearann4613 Watch the video. Look at the Queen's face. It was appalling to make her do that. The Duke seemed happy enough, though.
Why? She loves celebrations
@@tinab3627 Rubbish. Look at her face.
Blimey...24 years ago!!
I Remember this it’s when the Queen and Prince Philip didn’t know how to do it they had no idea that you link arms and hold hands. The Queen looked weary at the thought of Holding Tony Blair’s hand I thought that was strange saying they have there Christmas and new year in Scotland of all places but it’s lovely to see the Queen again she is missed so much I must say the Queen looked a lot nicer caring grandma type 15 to 20 years later she used to look quite stern ,strict
What do you mean Christmas and new year in Scotland of all places ???? Hogmany originates in Scotland, and it is the BEST place to be at New year. Are you kidding me??? She adored Scotland and at New Year the atmosphere is incredible there!
She wasn’t weary of taking Tony’s hand either. She was aware that others had their arms crossed and she just thought oh it’s ok I’ll just join in without crossing my arms, and reached out for both Tony and Prince Philips hands.
@@susanwaugh9711 i'd never seen our late Queen looking so out of place
and the atmosphere of places like Edinburgh and Glasgow wouldn't spread to Balmoral, it wasn't the local pub
and most people think the place where they live is the best place to be
@ivewarrior2 our late Queen looked uncomfortable, but she never looked stern or strict, and our royal family have Christmas and New Year at Sandringham in
Norfolk, England, but what is wrong with Scotland?
Haha bless her!
Her Majesty made a quick and understandable judgement call. It was better not to cross her arms and leave that to others.
Well she was of Scottish decent on her mother's side, in Scotland it was traditional NOT to cross arms
❤❤❤❤
Ma’am got it right, you don’t cross hands until the second verse “ gie us a hand my trusty friend and gie us a hand oh thine “. And there’s no for the sake of in the singing of Auld Land Syne….by Rabbie Burns..🏴🏴
Thank you for this information.
I never knew that, thank you ... I'm afraid my family always crossed arms the whole way through 💙💜
A NEW BEGINNING
The time on the boat was especially awkward 😐
What a total waste of time that was. Of all the magnificent buildings in London to choose from, Blair chooses a tent. Her Majesty could not wait to get away and take a late evening flight to Balmoral and who would blame her.
Poor queen ,,the Blairs stinking rich socialists
?
@@carebearann4613 if you are not very bright you won’t get it
The most awkward scene of the whole millennium 😂 the Queen was utterly non plussed by all this.
I wonder if the Crown had this in mind when they filmed the King Tony coronation scene ?
Marred by the appearance of evil Tony Blair
❤❤❤
