      I kite mostly the North coast of Spain and Portugal. But La Ventana - Mexico was a nice winter scape. Egypt is a good option for Europeans too.

    Dreamy video, great riding, looking like fun. I wish i could ride like this. So many questions lol:
    - what bar are you using?
    - do you recommend seat harnesses for foiling or is it just your personal preference?
    - Mostly ride in ultra light wind (10m Gin marabou2+ SS phantasm 633 in 5-10kts). For progresion (and in stronger 12-18kts winds) would you recommend downsizing the kite or the foil first?

    • @glidejunkie
      @glidejunkie  4 месяца назад +1

      Thanks, glad you like it. 6 years ago I had never ridden a foil, so it is just a matter of time and practice. I make my own carbon fiber bars. Super simple design without trim. Bar has no hole, but a swivel ring that aligns with the central line, this system offers no friction when pulling/pushing the bar regardless of the bar angle. So I can push/pull while turning with total smoothness.
      I like seat harness for three reasons: 1-They never slide up. 2-The lower spread bar position offers more sheeting range just with the arm movement without having to use a trim system. 3- since the kite is pulling from my hips instead of the waist I have more mobility of the upper torso and can use upper body rotations during turns, making it feel more surfy. Most seat harnesses are too stiff around the hip joint, so I look for minimalistic soft design. Dakine Vega is quite good but still stiffer than I wish, Now I am using a 2019 Mystic Foil Seat Harness BOA which is the softer option I have found around the hips. I have made a very minimalistic waist harness that sits very low and has groin straps so it doesn't move up, but for long sessions is not as comfortable as the Mystic seat harness.
      For stronger winds I would go for a smaller kite keeping your 633 foil. I did this for some years, riding a home made 633 foil up to 30 knots with a 3.7m Cloud kite. You will keep the stability and easiness of the 633. Just when you feel comfortable gybing, tacking and doing foot switches I would go for for a smaller foil if you want to experiment with higher speeds and a more loose feel.

    • @glidejunkie
      @glidejunkie  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks, I have been using home made foils for four years but last year I got a Slingshot Phantasm 657 (742 cm2) with 102 cm mast and 325 stabilizer and I love it. It is the foil I am using in this video. Great for fast carving. Not as easy to use as a larger front wing but lots of fun, and not as restrictive as a race foil that forces you to make all the turns very fast or it stalls. For very light winds I sometimes use a larger 1250cm2 (Moses 633) wing. Yes, it's a BRM Cloud kite. Probably a 6.2m or 4.8m size. I have all the sizes from 3,7 to 13.4m.

      Hi, This is Laredo, Cantabria, in the North coast of Spain. I use a home made camera mount attached to my harness: it's a wall flag mount with a carbon fiber tube. I'll make a video about it

    • @glidejunkie
      @glidejunkie  3 месяца назад

      @@richyandliz4802 Northeast is the best wind. East is also good. Spring and summer are the best seasons, specially Spring. There is local thermic wind so it can blow even when the rest of the coast is pretty calm. Usually we don¡t get more than a couple days of wind per week, but there are some lucky weeks in Spring when we get 5-6 good days in a row

    Kite foil > Wing foil

    • @glidejunkie
      @glidejunkie  3 месяца назад +1

      Everybody is doing that, but not for me and my bad shoulders, at least yet. I love my 1,9 kg board, the power of a kite loop, the speed and maneuverability of a smaller foil. Although wing foiling is pushing the limits of the sport very fast with smaller foils and boards for the very experienced riders, the "standard" wing foiling I see around me everyday feels slow and boring. But I know I am wrong ! :-)

    • @esnyder77
      @esnyder77 3 месяца назад +1

      @@glidejunkie nah, your’re right about looking slow and boring, it does! I’m sure they are having fun tho. The only advantage I see for wing foil, is if you’re not a kiter, you will get riding sooner. And definitely an advantage on riding in waves, the wing allows you to surf waves with it just floating behind you.

    • @glidejunkie
      @glidejunkie  3 месяца назад

      @@esnyder77 I agree, riding waves without dealing with slack lines is a big plus. In the other hand I see that most wingers' foils are too slow to ride fast rolling waves that require gliding speeds of at least 35+ km/h, which can be achieve with foils of less than 800 cm2 aprox.

    • @esnyder77
      @esnyder77 3 месяца назад +1

      @@glidejunkie yea I guess wing foiling in waves is a more advanced than flat water riding. So the foil you’re riding needs to be advanced too. Probably need some decent wind to get you back out to the lineup too
