  • Many scholars have reminisced about establishing an Islamic political entity like the ones of old, but little thought has been dedicated to thinking about what it would look like if that Islamic state was actually established. What sort of laws would there be? How would people be treated? Dr. Tareq Al-Suwaidan, a renowned Kuwaiti speaker, author, television personality and visionary, joins host Dr. Safiyyah Ally in a virtual conversation. Dr. Tareq imagines a future Islamic state that is not a theological state or a dictatorship; rather, he conceives of it as a constitutional democracy that protects rights and freedoms, distributes wealth, prioritizes education and health and focuses on improving the lives of its citizenry.

Regarding his last statement, I think it would be interesting to answer: "what is it now in the middle eastern countries that don't represent Islamic values?"

Beautifully said, people don't dream enough of a better future so noone works for it anymore we take how things are as they will be but that is just false, we are too engrossed with the profits of today to even consider which path leads to a better tomorrow. Most of us don't fight to reach tomorrow so we should spend that time not to reach the day after but to make tomorrow a better day to live in, all while facing the challenges each day at a time while keeping an eye on carefully updated benchmarks like resource availability so that we don't overdraft for our standards of living those of our children. Without forgetting to stop and smell the roses along the way.

Soooo…. Dr was basically describing a western state…..constitution, elected government, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, acceptance of art, music and alcohol. Sounds good but how do you quell the hard liners if the democratic Islamic party came to power?

In Indonesia we had an era where we were a Parliamentary democracy, and the Islamic Masyumi party had the premiership in quite a few times. That being said, they formed a coalition with the socialist party, christian party, and catholic party, which reflects the sort of pragmatic democracy that I believe the Doctor here yearns for.

So, the ideal islamic state is a secular democracy. We already have those. Except he wants different laws for the different religious groups and the lady seems to dream of state-controlled media. Which is not democratic. But good to know.

What is the difference between what Dr. Tareq Al-Suwaidan is promoting and what Türkiye is based on?

Sometimes people are considered crazy or heretics in their era and then centuries later they become celebrated. I can see many people disagreeing with him now but in the future Islamic states will
