I try to reduce my distractions when unloading but on many occasions have had situations like yours where an individual walks up and tries to start a conversation. Keep your head up and keep making videos like you do. Me and my son enjoy watching them.

And instead of calling a Heavy tow to get me out...well I broke a brand new rig that they gave me as a first long haul break in run. I took me out of my game in my head. But the boss said not to worry myself, Things happen, and you learn from mistakes. Making that call to him was the worst thing I had to do. And never had to do that type of call ever after. It really screwed my head. Years later, I was made head of driver Safety, and told that story to all new perspective drivers that I had to train. Stay safe. don't worry too much. We are all Human. and things will happen in life, just learn from those bumps in the road. ✌👍
About to start fuel hauling next week. I know my trainer will show how to double check. But if you have a video up already on double checking I would love to see it. Been watching your videos while I finish my 2 week notice as a dry van hauler at current company. I worked at a factory years ago. And I would changed out the press dies so we could run different parts on it next. And I had a machine operator and my supervisor both distract me when changing the press out. And I didn't tighten a bolt down all the way. Thankfully it didn't cause an issue with the parts or get anyone hurt. As the other 5 bolts had it more than covered for the that type of press. But I been there and learned my lesson big time and never let myself forget it either. I moved on but never forget the lesson learned from it. Stay safe out there, love your videos. Hey! Stand up guy to put it out there... I have been fuel haulin over 30 yrs, and although I "know" what I'm doin, it is soooo easy to get distracted. I can give you a couple tips that will help to stay focused. Tanks I pull, have the product marker "spinners" and we have different colored plastic diamond shaped I D tags that we clip onto the rings in the ears of the dust caps. Yellow, white, red and blue... What I have always done as well is when I load the wagon, I put the dust caps on in different positions for the different products. Regular dust cap ears are at 1 and 7 oclock, super they are at 11 and 5 oclock, and diesel ears at 9 and 3 oclock. It is and should be your last line of defense as you take caps off to drop. Position of cap, along with ID tag and spinner... well if ya mess up after all that... you know. Lastly, when I get to each stop, before I get out of the truck I LOOK AT B O L. Make sure name and address are correct, that I am at the right place, AND I double check gallons loaded for that stop. Keep sayin those gallons in your head as you get out to deliver. Must stay focused!!! Job is repetative, but must focus on one load at a time. I give you two thumbs up Mr Truck Driver for putting this video out and takin the responsibility. I cross mixed some gear oil into a el-mar LA-4 40 tank in New Mexico one day. Worse call ever to tell my boss about it. Then 2 days of driving back to Louisiana knowing I was in trouble. Most importantly I let myself down. Because I didn't follow my routine. Luckily I only got 2 days off. I definitely triple check since then.

At Circle K(and most other stations I think) in Denmark, we use a crossover protection system. If we connect a diesel compartment to a gasoline tank, the valve on the tank remains closed. Works great.
We all make mistakes Mike, you weren't the first to ever do it, nor will you be the last. As another guy said, just so long as you learn from it. Still watching and really like your Video's etc. Keep up the good work. Also what do they actually do with Transmix?
Had driver cross dump diesel and premium. Had dozens of cars and trucks broken down. Over 100 grand in damages and lots of headaches. Driver lost his job. I lost my mind and customers. Wouldn’t wish this on anyone.
Just a suggestion use mop and glow on your tired they will shine and will not dirty up when it rains .The Boston Trucker uses it to do his tires and i tried it on my pick up and it works
I drove tank wagon and mixed fuel at a golf course by mistake. And a federal government wildlife refuge. I haven’t had gas station mix ups but have had the wrong numbers for gallons I loaded and what would fit. I hit the alarm and couldn’t figure where I went wrong. So I called dispatch and said I loaded to much. Had to take the rest to another location to empty out. Luckily it was Costco and took the rest to another Costco so billing was all the same customer
Sorry to hear you cross-dump. Your working too fast, need to slow down and practice more Safety in your routine. I've just recently start watching your channel and counted numerous Safety violations and shortcuts and they finally caught up with you. If you drop wrong product in the Diesel tank you must not have marked the Diesel with a green cone, simple safety steps take more time but will protect you from accidents like this. Stay Safe!
I was distracted that morning... the speed I work is just fine with me.. it does no good to have a green cone on a diesel drop if the diesel drop is not even around where I was unloading..

@duckdive9334 yes across the parking lot.. like I said if you watched the beginning of that video when i was there I was talking about a shady person that was around me that morning when the store wasn't even open that had me paying more attention to him then what I was doing.. which in return caused me to cross drop.. now it was clearly my fault for the cross drop... because I should have double checked before I opened the valve... the speed I work has nothing to do with it..
I was making a delivery to pilot truck stop and we get shady people and I got hit by a baseball bat and assaulted. Shady people get me nervous and they need to stay away from fuel drivers working. Wish we could carry a firearm for safety.
No hate brother. When i train i say go ahead go fast as you can but there's two times to pause take an extra minute to double check, when you confirm to start the load and when you pull the handle. That's two to four extra minutes per load max 8 to 16 minutes a day

ugh that's a mental drain for sure! When people are at a closed store its unsettling, it gets your head out of the groove. Dial indicators or a cow tag would help brother. I bet you will tighten up from this and you wont let it happen again. Awesome video's !

Just found your channel & this is my first view. You Sir are an honorable man and I Love you already and am concerned for your safety after what I have seen in this video. I’m going to talk from experience of 38 years of pushing trucks around the U.S. & Canada. The first 24 years was Tankers. Bulk Refined and Chemical. What I saw that concerned me was No Ground Strap? The bucket with the gas in it? I would have the ground strap hooked to it and the trailer if I couldn’t find a metal pole/post in the ground. Ground strap always from trailer to drop or unload point with flammable products. I made my own Ground Strap out of 20ft of 1/8in wire rope/cable and mounted a spring loaded toothed clamp on both end’s because I found that the Ground Strap/Cables would be missing from equipment and Load/Unload Facilities. Please Brother - 20ft of Ground cable rolls up very nice over one hand and stores very easily. Also for your Info- I too Had One Cross Contamination in the 24 years I hauled bulk Refined/Chemicals. Lucky for everyone involved there was no Explosion,Fire or Toxic Fumes released. Salute!

@@Life-On-18-Wheels I’m retired now and turned in or gave to other Drivers all the Fittings/Gear I carried when I left the Tanker job. One way to beat static electricity with your buckets is to use plastic instead of metal. Another way to make a ground strap is to use some jumper cables. The brass ground knob on the tanker to the drop pipe itself or to the metal ring that the access lid fits on. Salute Brother
Brother, if you haul fuel, you’re gonna have a mix. We all strive for it to not happen, but you are not alone!! Knew a driver who was top notch and had hauled for years. He accidentally dropped no lead in a K1 tank. Store sold the K1 and a man purchased it and burned his house down! It sucks, but nobody was hurt thankfully. Keep going and keep your head up. We are all human and fall short sometimes.
Put that seatbelt on driver, we all make mistakes man, nobody is perfect, i’ve been hauling butane and propane for 23 yrs around Louisiana (home) , Tx, Arkansas and Mississippi, probably have passed you a time or two, no two days are EVER THE SAME. Be safe.🤙🏼
I just ran across your channel I worked at Southern Tire Mart and the Old Oasis Truck Stop in mid and late 90s. I’ve put tires on yalls trucks back in the day and passed yalls yard when going to truck stop. I’m retired now

Hauled petroleum products part time for 22 years. If I had a mixed load of gas and diesel, I would stick and drop the diesel first and while it's dropping I'd stick and drop the gas. By dropping the diesel first you don't make a mistake and by using that hose to drop gas afterwards , the gas cleans the diesel out of the hose. In my experience, each tank lid would be painted the color of the fuel in it and have a color coded collar with the type of fuel printed on it around the filler neck to reduce driver error
Yeah all the drops are painted I just was complacent.... you get used to doing stiff a certain way and if you ain't paying attention it will get you lol ...
A couple things here. Paint the concrete white=nl,etc,etc, no lead signs in well as well. Stores here get painted twice a year here. Petro dials on trailer. We pump out thru the Veeder root probe spot of the tank.
Mike, as you know there are 100 ways to screw up a fuel load everyday. I had one noled into super tank cross dump in 14 years. So it happens to the best of us. Just check check check...great video's.
I just subscribed to your channel. Love your content. Been driving rigs for almost 10 years. Been doing fuel hauling for 7 months and loving it. Hell I almost scullied out (overfilled one of my compartments) at a loading rack in my 2nd week solo caught it just in time. Lol. We all been there brother. God bless! Keep on tankin' yankin'!
Hey Mike , don’t get down on yourself brother, you’re only human , things happen, pull up your boot straps and carry on ! Believe me , I know how you feel, I pulled fuel tanker in Chicago and the northern suburbs of that city for 12 years ,I made those same mistakes myself, the good thing is you have a pump on your Pete so you can take care of your own mishap. It’s gonna happen and did , it’s a learning experience! Carry on ! What brand pump you got on you tractor? I don’t know but seems kinda slow. We used Blackmeer pumps , I was able to pump around 320 gpm. Anywho I am sure you will read this when you wake in the morning, so, have yourself a blessed and safe day ! I hauled petroleum products in California for 30 years and I came close several times but I never had a CROSS DUMP. That is why you make sure the product tank is tagged, and you double check your connections.

I'm assuming it got pumped into people's vehicles and that's how it was discovered?... u mentioned going and selling it as "trans-mix" what exactly is that and what can it be used for?. . and if u don't mind what does a mistake like this cost, I believe 3 storage tanks (at the station) were effected right?... does ur cousin work for same company as u do?..thanks in advance takes a big man to admit his mistakes and especially to put it on RUclips for all to see🤙🏼 hang in there bud we all make mistakes some just don't admit to em lol..another good video thanks for sharing 👍🏼

I always hook everything up and before I even think about pulling the handle I check my paperwork and walk the hoses back to the fill and before I pull the handle I always take a quick look back and plus all of the trailers have a green and red cone for diesel and premium.

The refinery will put it in a holding tank and then just refine it again to make more gas and stuff out of it...

I have never mixed oil... I blew it out tank but not mixed
It will be OK cross drops happen just be glad your a company driver as a owner Operator I get billed for the extra costs after selling the bad product
Even though I am a company driver it still hurts cause the boss has got to pay that extra cost over something I did... know what I mean

There are some companies that have all that stuff on there tanks but we ( the company I work for ) do not have all that on our trailers

Brother, if you haul fuel, you’re gonna have a mix. We all strive for it to not happen, but you are not alone!! Knew a driver who was top notch and had hauled for years. He accidentally dropped no lead in a K1 tank. Store sold the K1 and a man purchased it and burned his house down! It sucks, but nobody was hurt thankfully. Keep going and keep your head up. We are all human and fall short sometimes.
I did the same thing once don't feel bad.

I just ran across your channel I worked at Southern Tire Mart and the Old Oasis Truck Stop in mid and late 90s. I’ve put tires on yalls trucks back in the day and passed yalls yard when going to truck stop. I’m retired now

Hauled petroleum products part time for 22 years. If I had a mixed load of gas and diesel, I would stick and drop the diesel first and while it's dropping I'd stick and drop the gas. By dropping the diesel first you don't make a mistake and by using that hose to drop gas afterwards , the gas cleans the diesel out of the hose. In my experience, each tank lid would be painted the color of the fuel in it and have a color coded collar with the type of fuel printed on it around the filler neck to reduce driver error
Yeah all the drops are painted I just was complacent.... you get used to doing stiff a certain way and if you ain't paying attention it will get you lol ...

A couple things here. Paint the concrete white=nl,etc,etc, no lead signs in well as well. Stores here get painted twice a year here. Petro dials on trailer. We pump out thru the Veeder root probe spot of the tank.
The drops are painted.... that wasn't nothing to do with it ...it was labeled the right way It was just me rushing and not focusing....
Mike, as you know there are 100 ways to screw up a fuel load everyday. I had one noled into super tank cross dump in 14 years. So it happens to the best of us. Just check check check...great video's.

Hey Mike , don’t get down on yourself brother, you’re only human , things happen, pull up your boot straps and carry on ! Believe me , I know how you feel, I pulled fuel tanker in Chicago and the northern suburbs of that city for 12 years ,I made those same mistakes myself, the good thing is you have a pump on your Pete so you can take care of your own mishap. It’s gonna happen and did , it’s a learning experience! Carry on ! What brand pump you got on you tractor? I don’t know but seems kinda slow. We used Blackmeer pumps , I was able to pump around 320 gpm. Anywho I am sure you will read this when you wake in the morning, so, have yourself a blessed and safe day ! I hauled petroleum products in California for 30 years and I came close several times but I never had a CROSS DUMP. That is why you make sure the product tank is tagged, and you double check your connections.

I'm assuming it got pumped into people's vehicles and that's how it was discovered?... u mentioned going and selling it as "trans-mix" what exactly is that and what can it be used for?. . and if u don't mind what does a mistake like this cost, I believe 3 storage tanks (at the station) were effected right?... does ur cousin work for same company as u do?..thanks in advance

I always hook everything up and before I even think about pulling the handle I check my paperwork and walk the hoses back to the fill and before I pull the handle I always take a quick look back and plus all of the trailers have a green and red cone for diesel and premium.
