What I love about that bit was that Dan was prepared to do his whole "God dammit Ross" routine before the dealer just bluntly tells Ross the card he has is a Jack.
Oddly enough, Ross' complete lack of knowledge of poker combined with his general immaturity makes him completely unpredictable, which is a HUGE advantage in poker.
I disagree; even though I could see his hole cards I would've smelled that genuine excitement as super strong from miles away... now if he got knowledgable about poker and still replicates that genuine excitement in all sorts of situations it might work in his favor... although I'm more of a fan of not giving any information whatsoever (i.e. pokerface), but that would make for poor content on a show such as this. Everyone played really poorly, even Barry who seems to know about playing ''tight'', but forgot the ''aggressive'' part. At least they had fun and that's what counts in this setting :)

@@deltav864While Ross is easy to read one also has to factor in that he doesn't know what he's doing. So he seems cocky when he has nothing and doesn't push when he has a good hand half the time. So they have to second guess his tells.
@@timemonkey After the other guy's response I've actually rewatched this game and blocked off the hole cards. I couldn't do the read in my original comment, because it was the first hand and I was still figuring out what parts of the screen to block, but most of his hands fell in the range I put him on. I could tell he was strong when he hit the set even though he slowplayed that horribly.
And that's going by just physical tells while not being at the table and without the hands that got cut... I'll have a constant stream of tells by someone who doesn't know what he's doing, over someone who does, any day of the week.
I know this sounds cocky, but anybody who knows what to look for could've made the same reads.
Idk if this guy is an official dealer and the hired him or what. But I'm glad he's got a nice sense of humor. You can tell he was atleast having a bit of fun with these guys.

I am a career dealer of 4 casinos now, and I can say, they hired a professional. Not just from his card placement and roll with the game, but his mannerism, which fingers he uses to deal cards, and card pitching. He's not the absolute best, but not that bad either. I put him in the middle on skill level. Top on dealing with the players though.

Euphoric Ethan Ummm...what? I never said I didn't get it. In fact, I was thanking them for taking the time to explain it. I watch Texas Hold Em on ESPN fairly regularly, I know how Poker works. I'm not sure if you read a tone in my comment that wasn't there, but you have to admit the Grumps/TableFlip audience doesn't intersect very much with the Poker audience. It's not a difficult game but it can be a hard game to TEACH, so I was complimenting their instruction skills.

Soon as Ross called the jack a joker, you immediately hear the sad frustration in the dealer's voice that you can tell will be present for the entirety of the game. I love this show.

+scarletpikawolf I know this comment is old but the basics are that you want to have the most matching cards or the most in a row. The higher, the better. There are more complex combinations but that's the basics.
The first bet is what people have to match to keep playing in that round, but someone can add more money in. If they do the others have to match it or they're out. You would want to put in more money if you have good cards or if you want to trick the other players into dropping out.
Whoever has the better cards gets all the money on the table that was bet.
And it just keeps going around until one person has all the money.
I think the dealer fits into the dynamic of the group perfectly. He's slightly condescending and has an air of disdain about him. Like he resents the fact he found himself in this situation. Dealing holdem to a bunch of fuck ups. Though his cheats to the camera and how he says everything makes you feel like he doesn't mean it, he's just trying to be an asshole for the sake of comedy. The line to Suzy, "Well, you couldn't play it any worse than you did the last hand." and his follow up, *removes hat* "...and that's how you commit career suicide..." made me honestly laugh out loud. Good jorb teh chort.
Is this what I've succumbed to? Have I sunk so low that I have nothing to do except watch some random internet celebrities play Poker, which I can never fucking understand. I'm two decades old and here I am wasting my life away eating sunflower seeds just for an occasional laugh. I'm attending a university and I have papers to write, homework to do, books to study. I could be trying to apply for a job. I could be out there working and gaining experience to make peoples' lives better. Hell, I can't even be assed to finish any of the games I've been playing or start watching any of the shows my friends are into. I'm also in a public place. I could be chatting it up with the opposite sex, or at least making a new friend of the same sex, or just meeting somebody new, anybody. But no. Here I am watching five guys play poker and I have no idea what's going on but sometimes I giggle happily and forget but the video is over now and I can never forget. I will never be able to forget all of the potential I am continuously wasting away.

Finally! I hope they realize that a lot of people don't like Polaris, and they'll get more views and likes if they keep Table Flip on the Game Grumps channel. I love Table Flip, but I would never go to the Polaris channel and support those people directly.

Exactly the same here.
1.People take turns paying the minimum amount, with the option to quit out or raise the bets.
2. Once everyone has paid the minimum amount the next phase sets in, where 3 cards get put down in the middle.
3. Repeat the first step
4. Another card is added
5. Repeat the first step
6. The last card is added
7. Repeat the first step
8. Everyone shows their cards and they figure out who had the best hand, based on a ranking of how much a certain set of cards is worth which includes 5 of the 7 cards (their own plus the ones in the middle) which make the best combination.
Examples: Five of the same 'suit' (hearts, spades, diamonds) = Flush
Five cards going in consequential order (6,7,8,9,10) = Straight
Two/Three of the same kind (5,5) = Two pair/Three pair
