I've been saying side event at tourneys since the first one.
People tend to forget that this is, in fact, a party game, and you're allowed to enjoy casual aspects as well.

Rachel's probably used to platforming games, where A is frequently Jump and B and Y are your abilities. It seems weird if you adapted to the standard Smash controller layout, but it really isn't.
Anyway, any control setup that sets the D-pad to anything but taunts and actually uses it beyond mashing is instantly weird.
D-pad controls are probably people that played a lot of arcade-style fighters, like Tekken and Guilty Gear. The D-pad makes a lot of the button combos easier to fully understand when you're first starting out, because there aren't too many Hadoken-like inputs in those games, and the ones that are there are usually rather simple.
My controls are like hers too. I also have X to jump too. For pro controller I slide my finger from X to Y for out of shield up-B or from A to B for out of shield up-smash
@@H1_R3Z Iirc the d-pad can't be set to movement in Smash so you have to use the stick.
that's basically my smash controls, B is also a common jump button and y is either run or attack, and then A is left for a special interactions (specials)
I have pro controller and I have A and Y swapped. For me, it just makes more sense to extend or retract my thumb when choosing between attacks or specials, and then moving to a different axis for jumping, rather than the other way around.
Since the thumb always points at a diagonal angle on pro controller layout, stretching and retracting the thumb feels more natural for switching between attack types, at least for me.

The most cursed controls I've seen is as follows
LR is attack
RR is attack
LB is jump
RB is grab
X and y both are specials
A is grab
B is shield
Down on d-pad is shield
Up on d-pad is jump
Left and right on D-pad is specials.
He plays Luigi btw

@@DrJohnpiece they had previously agreed marss was allowed to jump with cargo carry. he didn’t move at all, the stage’s wind pushed him. even if you want to argue it bends the rules, it def doesn’t break them at all
