You are an amazing multitalented god like human! Your music has been a huge part of my life ! I am a 60 year old man and if I hear any of your music wherever I am it brings me back to a time in my life that I can never seem to find my way back to! Thank you so much for all youve done and for being such a gift of talent to the rest of the world!

Billy is a phenomenal song writer and performer. I saw him and his band live in 1983 at the Worcester Ma. Centrum.
The concert was excellent, and I was so thrilled to see him live. Def Leppard opened the show and were fabulous as well.
I'm from Framingham MA, just a couple of towns over from Wellesley where Billy grew up and went to school. I'm a big fan and very proud that he is a Massachusetts native!

@@intertubicularYou really think so? I'm not being a dick I'm genuinely interested. I do like some of his stuff such as Don't Say You Love Me and Everybody Wants You but not enough to listen to regularly. And I LOATHE The Stroke. The whole nonsense about his ill fated video for Rock Me Tonite never bothered me. Who cares? It's a video, the song was solid. But try as i might i simply can not get into his music. I love most music from Bobby Darrin to Kurt Cobain to the Beatles to Van Halen to Iron Maiden to more recent stuff like White Reaper and all the emo/screamo from the early 2000s to now. I hate hip hop or whatever it's called sad I find it unlistenable. So what drew you to BS?

Billy is a quality man. I feel like he represents us introverts very well. He shows that you can be introverted by nature but also a world class rock star. I enjoyed his insights and hope that he continues touring. I would love to see him.

    • @christopherstudley9374

I'm not sure I would limit it to just introverts.
He has been a staple in my life for so many decades.
I'm hope he knows how much his supposed "too sensitive songs" actually mean to so many.
I can't help but want to ask him how he was able to so clearly articulate in ' Nobody knows '.
      So many influential songs

Introverts find themselves energized most by non-human contact. Immersion in Mother Nature is my church-it revitalizes me. But ask my friends and they are floored when I describe myself as one. Billy personifies that same persona- he can turn it on for the public and jam with friends but downtime is vital to recharge the batteries for the next gig.

    • @jriesmeyer
      @jriesmeyer 9 лет назад +5

So true. Many who work with the public in any form are huge introverts in their private life. Hub calls me a hermit, that's OK with me, I am! It's a must to be able to turn on the "act" when inundated with the public. I'm still one, even though retired.

Yes, I do know better than Billy. He is hung up on that when the answer is obvious. If he wrote more good songs that the music buyers wanted, that video would be forgotten. That did not happen, so his stock value dropped and never returned. He was unable to write commercially viable music as tastes & style changed

    • @scottlebrun6782

Not true - I was a teenager hard rock/metal fan in the 80's, and by 1984, the biggest artists were Michael Jackson, Madonna, Duran Duran, and other such pop and new wave artists, and most "arena rock" bands at the time (Journey, Foreigner, Pat Benatar, etc) began getting more and more pop and keyboard-oriented. The mid-80's were a horrible time for rock music - grunge (and also bands like Guns 'N' Roses a few years prior) actually brought guitars back to mainstream rock.

My belief is the same as Mr. Squires, I didn't like social media back in 2013 either. Today it's far too important to not be involved. RUclips is very addictive. It's difficult to see Billy still having to explain how that one video just flattened his popularity. It would have been a better outcome to have just shown scenes in and around the studio for the recording of "Rock me tonight" just like some other videos of that time, like the Deep Purple video for "Perfect Strangers". I did see him live back in the 80's and Def Leppard was the warm up act. I stayed to watch his show, but unfortunately I witnessed a bit of a thinning out of the crowd after Leppard left the stage. I got the ticket for that show to see both bands. I still can get a surge today rocking out to " In the Dark", amongst others. I'm depressed now about how long ago 2013 is. Damn, I wish it could be 2019 again at this point. I need to get away from RUclips.

"The Big Beat", from his 1980 album The Tale of the Tape. One of THE most sampled drum beats of all time, especially on a lot of Hip Hop records. As heard on:
      •Jay Z- 99 Problems
      •Run DMC- Here We Go
•Dizzee Rascal- Fix Up, Look Sharp
      •Alicia Keys- Girl on Fire
•A Tribe Called Quest- We Can Get Down
      •Eminem- Beserk
And many, many more! Over 300 songs, to be exact.

I understand the video story issue, but the song Rock Me Tonight, was a great song. The misunderstanding that occurred from that video, would not have had the same affect today as it did then. The ok to be gay messages flooding the tv shows and internet have made changes to the way the world views that sort of thing. NOT enough, because the true change comes from the entire issue, no longer being an issue at all, no matter from what side of it. Like are we supposed to introduce ourselves by announcing, our social place in this world...hi im this or that....and my name is... NO because it won't need to be considered at all anymore, it is just what it is, accept it.

I was obsessed with "All Night Long" in 1984 and my parents bought me the album (or single, I can't remember now...)
and It gave me the chills !!
Then I found Van Halen and kinda forgot about Billy,
I wasn't aware of his decline because of one video 🤦. How can a real fan suddenly stop supporting an artist because of a video?!?!
I think it says more about the "fans" than Billy. It means the "fans" were flakey at best and Homophobic Azzholes at worst.. Only problem is that Billy is not ghey, but those moronic "fans" thought he was 😫

Those weren't true fans - they were trend-following sheep. It was a pretty lame video though - lol
