Questlove is an exceptionally musical human being. He's one of the tightest drummers who ever walked the earth and a pretty amazing DJ as well.
Questlove sat down for fresh words of wisdom at the 2005 Red Bull Music Academy, from his family's extraordinary record stashes and De La Soul 's debut to the evolution of The Roots'...

It's not just readers of his OkayPlayer website who respect this man as organic, straight forward and blessed with sharp wit and deep knowledge. If the music world has to be played like a game of chess, Questlove adopted some of his strategy from studying the most luminous African-American writers and critics from jazz to rap. With The Roots he experienced the ups and downs, twists and turns of a journey to reach that elusive combo: critical acclaim with commercial success.

Haha 11:40 "2015 what are we gonna do?" You're gonna be in Late night tv! Love how there was no way he could have planned for that! Life!
His choice of words were very impeccable. I love Quest's energy every time he gets interviewed. This was a treat to real soulquarian fans. Since he was living, it would have been the shit to see Dilla up there with him, but obviously, he was very sick at the time, so it's more than understood y he's not. Overall, dope ass interview!!!!!!!!!!!
J Dilla @ 1:22:17 but please watch the whole interview, it's Good, Peace
+LivingHipHop17 thanks ;)
The interviewer is chill, asks decent questions and let's Questlove speak without interruption. You can't ask for more than that.
crazy that not many people have checked this out. mad gems
There are people (die hard fans) that look for those details that he's supremely focused on though, is there anyone else focused on the bigger picture to create balance for the group as a whole? His ear is so honed as well to where he can hear the samples, breaks, beats, etc (brilliant)
One of the most rare genuine smiles I’ve ever seen
Totally agree that De La Soul is Dead is there best album! Truly brilliant and witty work by the group.
Stakes Is High
Interviewer knows his shit, made Quest get more involved into his thoughts.
Gratitude.
I liked that moment at about 15:00 where Quest was like holy shit, here's another hip hop history buff
He's absolutely spot on with Stevie Wonder's sloppy hi hat. They guy is a walking music encyclopedia.
@questlove How did the Roots Come Alive recording/album come about?
Can you interview the junglebrothers??
2005?, shit looks like 1999.
I know right. Film can do that though.
minutiae vs the bigger picture (liner notes)
"neurotic by nature". 🤣
Sounds like a group! Their hit O.P.P (Other Peoples Pills)
Underrated comment 😂
@@brawndothethirstmutilator9848 🤜🤛
Odd Future was that group for me.
how is that relevant to this interview
in 2005 tyler was not making records
@@soloist9495 hey asshole he was just saying what his important teenage group is. You’re retarded
It's great because Questlove can give a good interview to a rock, but wow the red bull music academy was really struggling here. Interviewer really seemed to trip on his words everytime he spoke
...too much Red Bull...
🤣
Did jazz ever become the biggest genre in the world?
I don't know why "you know" is better than "you know what I'm saying"
i wasnt sayin tat main, didn't say could erradicate all eviL!
Me he hecho aquí unas fotos contigo mírandote, dte las cuelgo en el feisbook!....................

Benji Sellsword hahaha
+Benji Sellsword Watch the most recent RBMA Lecture with him. There is plenty on drumming techniques particularly Dilla's influence over his own style.
u didnt watch the interview
Questlove is a musician that knows his drumming history.
this interviewer is cringe
:¨u know¨...:¨u know¨....wtf
