Most of whites who are here in Namibia are born Namibians as well,so full citizens just like anyone else who is a citizen of this land.That is what matter to us,wherever there forefathers came from it doesn't matter.just as we have people all over the world who made out country their home with full rights as citizens.

Dude, you're cool as hell. I can't believe I didn't know of you before today. Will subscribe! I'm a US expat in Belize, but I'm ready for new scenery. I was under the impression that practically everyone spoke English in Rwanda as a second language. Had no idea that English is limiting in Rwanda! That essentially removes it from consideration. I guess now it's a toss up between The Gam, Ghana, and Namibia, with a VERY remote possibility of Uganda. I enjoyed Uganda for the week I spent there, but the air pollution is incredibly bad in Kampala. Entebbe was sweet, but it seemed possibly too small as a permanent choice. I spent a month in Accra. Ghana is, for my taste, a bit noisy, hectic, congested, chaotic .... did I miss anything? At least Accra was. I saw no other cities sadly except a single day at Cape Coast dungeon. Belize has some truly wonderful people, but a country of only 330,000 population is too small to stay interesting for life.

It is important to research before travelling. Rwanda only recently adopted English. The primary languages are Kinyarwanda and French. Swahili is also spoken. It's fun learning new languages though.
@@listenup2882 As we speak, I'm doing Duolingo taking up French. I already speak "tourist quality" Spanish. Problem is, at my advanced age, (sixties) things don't stick the way they used to. I'm not declaring defeat, but I can attest that everything takes twice as long when you're a senior. My beef with languages like Kinyarwanda and Swahili is that for such a time consuming endeavor it will be learning them, they're only useful in a very limited number of destinations. Kinyarwanda maybe one or two countries I'd guess? And Swahili, maybe five or six? While French is useful in at least 15 to 20 countries, and Spanish .... is useful in countless places.

Not saying it's impossible, but in your senior years, you'll work twice as hard to do just about anything that requires a high functioning memory. I'm wrestling with Spanish on Duolingo ... have been for a good few months. Progress is steady, but pretty slow.

Namibia is a good choice for AA repats. It’s one of my top choices and it’s so close to Angola which is a Portuguese speaking country and I also speak Portuguese. So it’d be a win win for me 👌🏽😍

I had a friend ask me to describe Windhoek and I told her it looked like Phoenix but cleaner. I'm sure that's a bit of exaggeration, for one thing there are more people in the Phoenix metro area than the whole country of Namibia. Regarding universities. Not all are created equal. I guess if you are going to stay in Africa perhaps University of Namibia or Kenya are okay but if you want degrees that travel well, South Africa (and to a lesser extent Egypt) are the only countries in Africa where the universities rank well internationally. As Times Higher Education World University Rankings said a couple yrs. back, SA punches well above its weight given the size of the nation. Namibia has the second lowest population density after Mongolia. The only three nations in Africa I would live are South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. Good roads. Generally reliable electricity. Democratic. Free press. Rule of law. A way lower amount of corruption, especially compared to most nations on the continent but even by world standards. I think South Africa is the lowest at about 60 (last I look), that's 60 out of 183 nations. So not exactly New Zealand but way better than its economic peers (by development) like Brazil, Russia, India and China. Coloured are just one of the mixed race culture groups. Basters and there's another one. They go back way further than 100 yrs. though. Also, not to put to fine a pt. on it but pretty much all Black people in the Americas are mixed race both in culture and genetics. It may vary by nation but the chance that someone whose people have been here for the last 500 yrs. having only Sub-Saharan African ancestors is nigh impossible. I always think of Namibia as a more low key South Africa. I like the coastal towns though they seem to be developing fast. Henties Bay, Swakopmund and Lüderitz... Walvis Bay always strikes me as being less resort like compared to the others. It's the second largest city after Windhoek if I'm not mistaken. I think because they are a port city a lot probably revolves around that. The only negative thing that I've heard about Namibia is that housing is expensive primarily due to low inventory (something that seems worldwide now). I am not a fan of most African countries as a place to live. I like the cultures. I'm sure the people are cool (I mean, people are people so I don't think it matters) but I am also a bitch ass American and I don't like "roughing it". I think most nations in Africa are probably cool if you are young or super into rolling with chaotic living situations. The nations you mention when I see videos of Black Americans moving there I think "good for them". Clearly their standards are quite different than mine because for instance, I like democracy and a free press. I like knowing that for the most part electricity is going to be on and I can drink water from the faucet in whatever place I may be at. I like having multiple choices of nice restaurants and hotels to go to. Things that most Americans seem to take for granted (probably why we may be on the verge of losing it). I like paved roads, being able to complain and have elected officials listen knowing there is some possibility that I might have my concerns met. I like and admire Ghana for its democracy but they and many African countries just seem okay with poor infrastructure and haphazard urban planning (if there is any planning at all) and substandard living situations in general. I know the history of colonialism and post-colonialism but I often wonder why the people of many of these countries don't demand better. They are clearly capable of implementing it, so why don't they?
Yes, the majority of Black folks in the Americas are technically mixed, some more than others. However, not all people who are genetically mixed culturally identify as mixed. My mother is technically mixed race, but she identifies as Black American. Race is a social construct, so it doesn't really matter at the end of the day. I see your point though. And yes, there are other mixed race ethnic groups in Namibia that I've learned about. I filmed this video after only spending a couple of months in the country. Anyway, thanks for engaging! You have not lived long enough in Namibia. Namibians are influenced by big brother South Africa, and it’s fair to say that just like South Africans, Namibians are not fond of Nigerians. They are seen in light of dealing.

Agree with u. To me Namibia is hidden gem of Africa. Its quiet country but on mission to prosperity that's why it's quite. Its last country to become independent in africa. Its quite diverse indeed. Lots of Americans & Canadians especially whites are around. French, Germans, Swiss, Austrians and British are sizable. One thing I observe in Namibia is harmony such that if a racist white in America touches ground here, he converts to humanity immediately. He changes automatically. The environment changes you automatically. Racial discrimination is a serious crime in our law but we hardly go that route coz there is no racial tension in Namibia. People have one identity and owe allegiance to common cause. So the moment u reach here whether black or white, forget about racism. It has no shelter in this country. I personally believe that it's hard to find racial compromise as is in Namibia. Thousands of white people are seeking permanent residence especially Europeans but they convert when they come here though we hear they racist where they come from. Only maybe isolated cases but surely namibians stand as one irrespective of colour. I don't know what did we do to succeed coz if u ask a white south african in SA he will tell u same that Namibia seems to be a place where a human being has sense of belonging without colour! Moreso, we upper middle income country. Rich in minerals like diamonds, gold, copper, zinc, manganese, tin, asbestos, Uranium and fisheries etc though historically looted by multinational companies. Indeed well organised country. There is order. English is most widely spoken foreign language. 2nd is Afrikaans or what we call Dutch dialect spoken by Dutch descendants who are majority over Germans. Lots of indigenous languages. Portuguese of course also widely prevalent.

Hello Denise! Thank you for engaging. I have not been on safari here yet, but I have heard it is amazing. As far as getting jobs here is concerned, I haven't personally delved too far into that arena yet, but the process doesn't seem to complicated, from what I have gathered. I would recommend coming here on a tourist visa for a few months and exploring some schools here. I am almost certain teachers are needed and in high demand, Denise. Just know that the Home Affairs has long lines to wait in, so that is one issue with getting your work permit here, but other than that, the process is straight forward. I have renewed my tourist visa and it was incredibly easy (the line for visa renewal is much shorter than applying for a permit. Lol). You can visit the Home Affairs website for Namibia to get more information. I hope this has helped some.
Hi, a Namibian here, many English speakibg expats teach English in Namibia, try approaching the Ministry of Education in Windhoek, and perhaps be ready to start in smaller towns if you get an opportunity. Science, Maths and Languages Teachers are a great priority. hope this helps.

How about elementary school if I would consider moving my children from America to Namibia for a year or two for the experience of leaving in the motherland. How about medical?
There are schools like delta secondary school or Windhoek high school or maybe whindhoek gymnasium which is a little bit expensive but best education, you can search the school on google and maybe see if you like it👍
Do not worry about schools or education in Namibia. We have the best even the medical schools are top notch, plus our private hospitals are the best. Just come and visit first to measure the standards. Our standards are at international level. Namibia is the best place to school your children without putting too much worries on your kids being kidnapped.
I personally think it would be a beautiful place to retire. They have private and public healthcare options (private costs but is still very affordable compared to the states), healthcare (medical aid), affordable housing (compared to the states), affordable food, including eating out, beautiful beaches, and accessable places. Also, the Namibian culture respects elders.
I’d like to continue working with animals when I make the move back home. Formerly a veterinary technician, currently a pet groomer. How would describe the relationship between pets and pet parents.
now THAT field has huge potential out here! People are really starting to get serious about their pets, and there aren't too many groomers out here. I would say there is certainly a market for it, especially among the middle and upper class families.

Please comment on the food security situation in Namibia. My understanding is that Namibia relies on imports big-time, which could make for a lot of scared/hungry/angry people soon. You're right. Most everything is imported from their neighbor, South Africa. It could potentially be a serious issue. Namibia is working on growing/ producing their own goods, but they certainly don't produce enough.
Food security is a measure of a country's ability to feed itself. One doesn't necessarily need to produce food to be food secure, as long as the is food in the market and you are able to purchase you are food secure. Offcourse its nice to be self sustaining as a nation. The world is a global village and we intertrade

@@AntonsClass Yes, I love the desert, but I worry they are very marginal environments in a time of strong climate change. The whole American southwest is drying up, with Lake Mead predicted to be a “dead pool” - no dam releases, no hydro power - by late 2023. I tell my friend, also from Phoenix, to sell her house and get it out now while she can. And this whole damn country is edging closer to civil war - more signs every day. The coast of Peru is very similar to Namibia: dry dunes and a cold Pacific current. How do Swakopmund and coastal towns get enough water with no rivers and only .5” of rain per year? Man, that is a trickle! I know about the dense fogs - are they harvesting that somehow with nets? I think maybe Peruvians have done that to a limited extent. If negative climate change makes things worse, they all may need desalination plants.

And yes, Namibia is projected to become drier. However, I have also read that Africa may not be affected the same way by climate change. I really want to leave the Netherlands. Our country is really turning a bad leaf and I’m not with the political choices. And Namibia is really what I’m interested in. And for all the same reasons you mention. Diversity, developed, English speaking and the fact that it’s a young country where there’s growth and development possibilities. And seeing how skilled the people are and also salary wise it’s affordable for an expat to start a company there with personnel that you can pay properly. So I would really like to run a business with personnel. Here in the Netherlands, personnel is really unaffordable for a small company. And you come from Phoenix. And I landed there the second time I went to the US and wanted to see the deserts. And man…. As of that trip, I’ve become a desert guy, I’ve been back to the southwest every other year or so since 2000, purely because of the nature and ease of travel in the US. Seeing the pictures of the two major deserts in Namibia its as stunning if not more so. Maybe I want to do something in tourism. I’ve been in IT for 28 years of which 14 years self employed and I’ve had it. I don’t see me doing this 17 more years. So this video is my first exploration, and My plans are to visit Namibia after this contract is done and really soak up the vibe. See what the business possibilities are, talk to the locals what they’d like to do. Because I read that unemployment is massive at 30+% I’m no Samaritan, but I always think that if you move somewhere that it needs to be a symbioses. I need to give something back to repay them for taking me in. And perhaps it will be an IT company, when there’s a lot of talent there. But running my own store, pub/hotel or day trip excursions is something that starts to appeal to me. And I think the local people will be awesome employees for those ventures. But first visit l, that’s my main priority.
Your ideas sound solid! I totally think you should visit Namibia and check it out. Based on what you've shared, I think you'll enjoy the vibe there. Also, your idea of starting a business and bringing much needed employment is great, and will likely be appreciated by the locals. Thanks for sharing.

What is still visible of that horrible ethnic clenching and civil war, that was so very recent, 1994… How do the Hutus and Tutsis now live together? Is their a forgiveness between the two? @@CallousCoder In Rwanda, the culture has shifted to dissolve tribal barriers, and now all identify simply as Rwandan. On the surface, there is no Hutu or Tutsi, everyone is Rwandan. However, and this needs to be addressed, I've read that just beneath the surface, tribal lines still exist. The current leader shows favoritism towards his fellow Tutsi, and there are more Tutsi in positions of power and wealth. This is a very sensitive and tricky subject, for obvious reasons, and in Rwanda, one can't openly discuss such matters. Freedom of press is severely lacking there. However, they have made great strides to heal the wounds of their past. Now it is a safe, clean country, and people seem to be looking forward to a brighter future.
@@AntonsClass thanks Anton! I was really wondering this. I asked because I have friends from Serbia and Croatia that literally fought against each other. And now we work together. And yet my grandma loathed Germans till the day she died. Even people that weee born after 1945, because they had German ethnicity my grandma would just not talk to them. She could not let go of the war in her mind. And a war isn’t over lest we forgive, not forget but forgive and move on together. I subscribed to your channel, I love your insights on the continent. Especially from an American point of view. And I always figured I’d immigrate to the US one day. But having worked there on projects, I realized that it’s too antisocial for my European roots. I consider myself right of center economic conservative. But in America it’s too anti social for European economic conservatives. And, don’t be offended, but American colleagues and people in day to day life (outside of your friends) feel very shallow and fake. There’s hardly any deep conversation about hard subject, like we are having here. That’s rare to have with colleagues and people. And especially for me, a guy who grew up initially in lower social circles (my mum was a single mum until she married my (step) dad) and in lower social circles in the 70s in the Netherlands people really took care of each other. And especially the Papuans and Suriname people in our social housing estate were so loving and caring. But even in the upper middle class, when some mother needed to work or get a kid from school. Others would just take care of those kids. Sometimes we had 12 different kids playing and 3 different kids for lunch. And sometimes we had lunch at some “aunt” down the street. I miss that social involvement. And I hope to find it somewhere in Africa again. Real community, people loving and taking care of each other. Instead this very lonesome (initially North American) lifestyle of only caring for your own family. And cost of living being so high that work is all that matters to keep your family alive.

Dude, you're cool as hell. I can't believe I didn't know of you before today. Will subscribe! I'm a US expat in Belize, but I'm ready for new scenery. I was under the impression that practically everyone spoke English in Rwanda as a second language. Had no idea that English is limiting in Rwanda! That essentially removes it from consideration. I guess now it's a toss up between The Gam, Ghana, and Namibia, with a VERY remote possibility of Uganda. I enjoyed Uganda for the week I spent there, but the air pollution is incredibly bad in Kampala. Entebbe was sweet, but it seemed possibly too small as a permanent choice. I spent a month in Accra. Ghana is, for my taste, a bit noisy, hectic, congested, chaotic .... did I miss anything? At least Accra was. I saw no other cities sadly except a single day at Cape Coast dungeon. Belize has some truly wonderful people, but a country of only 330,000 population is too small to stay interesting for life.

It is important to research before travelling. Rwanda only recently adopted English. The primary languages are Kinyarwanda and French. Swahili is also spoken. It's fun learning new languages though.
@@listenup2882 As we speak, I'm doing Duolingo taking up French. I already speak "tourist quality" Spanish. Problem is, at my advanced age, (sixties) things don't stick the way they used to. I'm not declaring defeat, but I can attest that everything takes twice as long when you're a senior. My beef with languages like Kinyarwanda and Swahili is that for such a time consuming endeavor it will be learning them, they're only useful in a very limited number of destinations. Kinyarwanda maybe one or two countries I'd guess? And Swahili, maybe five or six? While French is useful in at least 15 to 20 countries, and Spanish .... is useful in countless places.

Say Anton does Namibia make provisions for retirees to repatriate? I want to leave babylon next year and live my remaining years on the continent.
I had a friend ask me to describe Windhoek and I told her it looked like Phoenix but cleaner. I'm sure that's a bit of exaggeration, for one thing there are more people in the Phoenix metro area than the whole country of Namibia.
Regarding universities. Not all are created equal. I guess if you are going to stay in Africa perhaps University of Namibia or Kenya are okay but if you want degrees that travel well, South Africa (and to a lesser extent Egypt) are the only countries in Africa where the universities rank well internationally. As Times Higher Education World University Rankings said a couple yrs. back, SA punches well above its weight given the size of the nation.
Namibia has the second lowest population density after Mongolia.
The only three nations in Africa I would live are South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. Good roads. Generally reliable electricity. Democratic. Free press. Rule of law. A way lower amount of corruption, especially compared to most nations on the continent but even by world standards. I think South Africa is the lowest at about 60 (last I look), that's 60 out of 183 nations. So not exactly New Zealand but way better than its economic peers (by development) like Brazil, Russia, India and China.
Coloured are just one of the mixed race culture groups. Basters and there's another one. They go back way further than 100 yrs. though. Also, not to put to fine a pt. on it but pretty much all Black people in the Americas are mixed race both in culture and genetics. It may vary by nation but the chance that someone whose people have been here for the last 500 yrs. having only Sub-Saharan African ancestors is nigh impossible.
I always think of Namibia as a more low key South Africa. I like the coastal towns though they seem to be developing fast. Henties Bay, Swakopmund and Lüderitz... Walvis Bay always strikes me as being less resort like compared to the others. It's the second largest city after Windhoek if I'm not mistaken. I think because they are a port city a lot probably revolves around that. The only negative thing that I've heard about Namibia is that housing is expensive primarily due to low inventory (something that seems worldwide now).
I am not a fan of most African countries as a place to live. I like the cultures. I'm sure the people are cool (I mean, people are people so I don't think it matters) but I am also a bitch ass American and I don't like "roughing it". I think most nations in Africa are probably cool if you are young or super into rolling with chaotic living situations. The nations you mention when I see videos of Black Americans moving there I think "good for them". Clearly their standards are quite different than mine because for instance, I like democracy and a free press. I like knowing that for the most part electricity is going to be on and I can drink water from the faucet in whatever place I may be at. I like having multiple choices of nice restaurants and hotels to go to. Things that most Americans seem to take for granted (probably why we may be on the verge of losing it). I like paved roads, being able to complain and have elected officials listen knowing there is some possibility that I might have my concerns met. I like and admire Ghana for its democracy but they and many African countries just seem okay with poor infrastructure and haphazard urban planning (if there is any planning at all) and substandard living situations in general. I know the history of colonialism and post-colonialism but I often wonder why the people of many of these countries don't demand better. They are clearly capable of implementing it, so why don't they?
Yes, the majority of Black folks in the Americas are technically mixed, some more than others. However, not all people who are genetically mixed culturally identify as mixed. My mother is technically mixed race, but she identifies as Black American. Race is a social construct, so it doesn't really matter at the end of the day. I see your point though.
And yes, there are other mixed race ethnic groups in Namibia that I've learned about. I filmed this video after only spending a couple of months in the country. Anyway, thanks for engaging! Take care ✌🏽

You have not lived long enough in Namibia. Namibians are influenced by big brother South Africa, and it’s fair to say that just like South Africans, Namibians are not fond of Nigerians. They are seen in light of dealing.

Agree with u. To me Namibia is hidden gem of Africa. Its quiet country but on mission to prosperity that's why it's quite. Its last country to become independent in africa. Its quite diverse indeed. Lots of Americans & Canadians especially whites are around. French, Germans, Swiss, Austrians and British are sizable. One thing I observe in Namibia is harmony such that if a racist white in America touches ground here, he converts to humanity immediately. He changes automatically. The environment changes you automatically. Racial discrimination is a serious crime in our law but we hardly go that route coz there is no racial tension in Namibia. People have one identity and owe allegiance to common cause. So the moment u reach here whether black or white, forget about racism. It has no shelter in this country. I personally believe that it's hard to find racial compromise as is in Namibia. Thousands of white people are seeking permanent residence especially Europeans but they convert when they come here though we hear they racist where they come from. Only maybe isolated cases but surely namibians stand as one irrespective of colour. I don't know what did we do to succeed coz if u ask a white south african in SA he will tell u same that Namibia seems to be a place where a human being has sense of belonging without colour! Moreso, we upper middle income country. Rich in minerals like diamonds, gold, copper, zinc, manganese, tin, asbestos, Uranium and fisheries etc though historically looted by multinational companies. Indeed well organised country. There is order. English is most widely spoken foreign language. 2nd is Afrikaans or what we call Dutch dialect spoken by Dutch descendants who are majority over Germans. Lots of indigenous languages. Portuguese of course also widely prevalent.

Hello Denise! Thank you for engaging. I have not been on safari here yet, but I have heard it is amazing. As far as getting jobs here is concerned, I haven't personally delved too far into that arena yet, but the process doesn't seem to complicated, from what I have gathered. I would recommend coming here on a tourist visa for a few months and exploring some schools here. I am almost certain teachers are needed and in high demand, Denise.
Just know that the Home Affairs has long lines to wait in, so that is one issue with getting your work permit here, but other than that, the process is straight forward. I have renewed my tourist visa and it was incredibly easy (the line for visa renewal is much shorter than applying for a permit. Lol).
You can visit the Home Affairs website for Namibia to get more information. I hope this has helped some.
Hi, a Namibian here, many English speakibg expats teach English in Namibia, try approaching the Ministry of Education in Windhoek, and perhaps be ready to start in smaller towns if you get an opportunity. Science, Maths and Languages Teachers are a great priority. hope this helps.

There are schools like delta secondary school or Windhoek high school or maybe whindhoek gymnasium which is a little bit expensive but best education, you can search the school on google and maybe see if you like it👍

Do not worry about schools or education in Namibia. We have the best even the medical schools are top notch, plus our private hospitals are the best. Just come and visit first to measure the standards. Our standards are at international level.

I personally think it would be a beautiful place to retire. They have private and public healthcare options (private costs but is still very affordable compared to the states), healthcare (medical aid), affordable housing (compared to the states), affordable food, including eating out, beautiful beaches, and accessable places. Also, the Namibian culture respects elders.

now THAT field has huge potential out here! People are really starting to get serious about their pets, and there aren't too many groomers out here. I would say there is certainly a market for it, especially among the middle and upper class families.

Please comment on the food security situation in Namibia. My understanding is that Namibia relies on imports big-time, which could make for a lot of scared/hungry/angry people soon. Or at least that's what I imagine. Do you agree? (BTW, I visited Windhoek in late 2018 and was super surprised by the place. Positively!)
You're right. Most everything is imported from their neighbor, South Africa. It could potentially be a serious issue. Namibia is working on growing/ producing their own goods, but they certainly don't produce enough.
Food security is a measure of a country's ability to feed itself. One doesn't necessarily need to produce food to be food secure, as long as the is food in the market and you are able to purchase you are food secure. Offcourse its nice to be self sustaining as a nation. The world is a global village and we intertrade

I wish I knew the answer to that. I'm not sure on that, but I do believe they have a retirement Visa. If you love the desert, you'll adore Namibia's stunning desert!
@@AntonsClass Yes, I love the desert, but I worry they are very marginal environments in a time of strong climate change. The whole American southwest is drying up, with Lake Mead predicted to be a “dead pool” - no dam releases, no hydro power - by late 2023. I tell my friend, also from Phoenix, to sell her house and get it out now while she can. And this whole damn country is edging closer to civil war - more signs every day.
The coast of Peru is very similar to Namibia: dry dunes and a cold Pacific current.
How do Swakopmund and coastal towns get enough water with no rivers and only .5” of rain per year? Man, that is a trickle! I know about the dense fogs - are they harvesting that somehow with nets? I think maybe Peruvians have done that to a limited extent. If negative climate change makes things worse, they all may need desalination plants.
@@traviskelly4941 your concerns are valid! I have been telling my family in Phoenix to sell their homes and relocate for a couple of years now, but to no avail. And yes, Namibia is projected to become drier. However, I have also read that Africa may not be affected the same way by climate change.

I really want to leave the Netherlands.
Our country is really turning a bad leaf and I’m not with the political choices.
And Namibia is really what I’m interested in. And for all the same reasons you mention. Diversity, developed, English speaking and the fact that it’s a young country where there’s growth and development possibilities. And seeing how skilled the people are and also salary wise it’s affordable for an expat to start a company there with personnel that you can pay properly.
So I would really like to run a business with personnel. Here in the Netherlands, personnel is really unaffordable for a small company.
And you come from Phoenix. And I landed there the second time I went to the US and wanted to see the deserts. And man…. As of that trip, I’ve become a desert guy, I’ve been back to the southwest every other year or so since 2000, purely because of the nature and ease of travel in the US.
Seeing the pictures of the two major deserts in Namibia its as stunning if not more so.
Maybe I want to do something in tourism. I’ve been in IT for 28 years of which 14 years self employed and I’ve had it. I don’t see me doing this 17 more years.
So this video is my first exploration, and My plans are to visit Namibia after this contract is done and really soak up the vibe. See what the business possibilities are, talk to the locals what they’d like to do. Because I read that unemployment is massive at 30+% I’m no Samaritan, but I always think that if you move somewhere that it needs to be a symbioses. I need to give something back to repay them for taking me in. And perhaps it will be an IT company, when there’s a lot of talent there. But running my own store, pub/hotel or day trip excursions is something that starts to appeal to me. And I think the local people will be awesome employees for those ventures.
But first visit l, that’s my main priority.
Your ideas sound solid! I totally think you should visit Namibia and check it out. Based on what you've shared, I think you'll enjoy the vibe there. Also, your idea of starting a business and bringing much needed employment is great, and will likely be appreciated by the locals. Thanks for sharing.

I was wonder Anton, you lived in Rwanda. What is still visible of that horrible ethnic clenching and civil war, that was so very recent, 1994… How do the Hutus and Tutsis now live together? Is their a forgiveness between the two? Or is it more like a “we condone each other but, nothing more than that?” Love to hear about that.
@@CallousCoder In Rwanda, the culture has shifted to dissolve tribal barriers, and now all identify simply as Rwandan. On the surface, there is no Hutu or Tutsi, everyone is Rwandan. However, and this needs to be addressed, I've read that just beneath the surface, tribal lines still exist. The current leader shows favoritism towards his fellow Tutsi, and there are more Tutsi in positions of power and wealth. This is a very sensitive and tricky subject, for obvious reasons, and in Rwanda, one can't openly discuss such matters. Freedom of press is severely lacking there.
However, they have made great strides to heal the wounds of their past. Now it is a safe, clean country, and people seem to be looking forward to a brighter future.
@@AntonsClass thanks Anton! I was really wondering this. I asked because I have friends from Serbia and Croatia that literally fought against each other. And now we work together. And yet my grandma loathed Germans till the day she died. Even people that weee born after 1945, because they had German ethnicity my grandma would just not talk to them. She could not let go of the war in her mind. And a war isn’t over lest we forgive, not forget but forgive and move on together.
I subscribed to your channel, I love your insights on the continent. Especially from an American point of view. And I always figured I’d immigrate to the US one day. But having worked there on projects, I realized that it’s too antisocial for my European roots. I consider myself right of center economic conservative. But in America it’s too anti social for European economic conservatives. And, don’t be offended, but American colleagues and people in day to day life (outside of your friends) feel very shallow and fake. There’s hardly any deep conversation about hard subject, like we are having here. That’s rare to have with colleagues and people.
And especially for me, a guy who grew up initially in lower social circles (my mum was a single mum until she married my (step) dad) and in lower social circles in the 70s in the Netherlands people really took care of each other. And especially the Papuans and Suriname people in our social housing estate were so loving and caring. But even in the upper middle class, when some mother needed to work or get a kid from school. Others would just take care of those kids. Sometimes we had 12 different kids playing and 3 different kids for lunch. And sometimes we had lunch at some “aunt” down the street.
I miss that social involvement. And I hope to find it somewhere in Africa again. Real community, people loving and taking care of each other. Instead this very lonesome (initially North American) lifestyle of only caring for your own family. And cost of living being so high that work is all that matters to keep your family alive.
I feel the same about the US.
