2006 Hummer H3 Chugging at Idle - FIX IT Mass Air Flow Sensor and Throttle Body

  • I created this video to help other owners figure out why their Truck, Hummer H3 or other vehicle may be Idling rough at start or coming to a stop light or stop sign. I replaced everything that the Codes told me to replace, including Air flow sensors, Intake and Exhaust, and the Solenoid Actuator. Nothing worked, then... I Used my brain. Clean your Air intake sensor and throttle bottle. INSTANT power and no chugging at all, NONE whatsoever.

I would like to add that when you do this procedure you clean the Pressure control valve (PCV) this is why you had oil in the resonator and on the throttle body. Mine was clogged and I needed to use a small screw drive to poke through the sludge that had built up and used the MAF cleaner on it also and the hose. If the hose is cracked it must be replaced with a new hose! Once I did this and the other items my H3 ran beautifully like new and I have since used engine / sludge cleaner and changed the oil also. I love my H3 again instead of hating it because of the issues. Thanks for posting 🤘

THANK YOU!!! I have a 2006 Hummer H3 that was doing exactly what you said - idling rough at start and at stop lights, even to the point of conking out! Watched your video and my Son and I tackled this job thanks to you! And WOWOWOW what a difference it immediately made!!! Thank you so much for your wisdom and willingness to share this video! Great video, Great fix and a Great day for Dad and Son getting their hands dirty! God Bless You!!!

I did it, my hummer was failing when starts, when I remove the resonator, I found the little hose was broken. So, after cleaning everything and replacing that hose, now it works very well. Thanks!

Hello, thanks for making this video. I have a 2007 Hummer H3 and it's been idling bad only when I come to a stop at low rpm's. As a result it would shut off at times. After checking online for remedies that might resolve the issues I did the following recommended things. First I checked my oil to see if it was low. It needed a quart. It mentioned if the problem still exists there my be a airflow issue. First thing it mentioned was check the air filter. Mine needed changed. Once I did that it did run just slightly better but the idling issues when coming to stop would still cause the engine to shut off at times. Even my lights was dimming off and on while stopping. It wasn't my battery or alternator cause they was new. Plus my coils and spark plugs was newly replaced. So I knew that wasn't the problem. So my next step is cleaning the sensor and throttle body. I've had the stuff all off before to change my spark plugs and coils. Very easy to get off. So getting to the throttle body again to clean it isn't a problem with removing stuff. I haven't done it yet but I'm kinda excited cause I'm sure I would have the same results you had with it running so much better. Like you said, everything plays a roll in making it run better. I'm planning to do this shortly. Thanks for the video! I'm confident that this will resolve my idling issue when coming to a stop. Just by changing the air filter made it run slightly better so it's definitely a sign that the engine wasn't getting enough air at low rpm's cause the throttle body was sticking on the build up of sticky oil. I've seen and read other Hummer owners who had the same issue said the cleaning made a big difference. It most cases they mentioned it ran like new again! Till it needs cleaned again!

Yoooo! My college auto instructor mr. Martin Gamble is an auto genius. He was the head honcho at my school and ultimately was the only reason I ran circles around my aircraft school classmates in our electrical phase. Any relation by chance?
I saw the name and all the thumbs up and was like maybe it’s just a Gamble thing. Maybe y’all just all somehow speak proper Any & All Vehicles language from yalls home planet 😎😅🤷🏼‍♀️
PS this video saved my 07 H3 (@ approx 103k miles) out of all the money I’ve thrown into it and all the time I spent on hummer forums reading thru just to save my baby. I am truly ecstatic that I have been wrong for just long enough to find myself on this vid & to now know that this is relatively normal over time. Also stoked that it was only a $8 Walmart cleaner fix, this video, and a smidge of elbow grease! Lol thanks for doing this vid!!!

No, haha no relation, but my Dad was a mechanic and an Auto Tech teacher for 20+ years. Sounds like you had a smart teacher though and glad you were running circles around the others, that's freaking awesome. Happy to help any other do-it-yourselfers!

@@michaelgamble9650 Haha confirmed its just a gamble thing then i guess!!
At 9:55 with the O-ring and whatever that casing is called, did you end up having to take that apart and clean it as well???

    • @michaelgamble9650
      @michaelgamble9650  5 лет назад

Haha that's funny lol, no I did not actually take that o-ring / gasket off and replace it or clean it I just wiped what you can see.
I'm sure it is definitely recommended to replace the gasket but I've got 245,000 mi on my Hummer so the condition that that gasket was in didn't seem like it need to be replaced and it's still running after that video till today amazing with over 245,000 mi on this baby.

Great video. Very informative. Thanks. I've done this before but needed a refresher....and a little motivation. I need to do it this afternoon and it's -10 plus wind......so I don't look forward to it. But the truck is barely drivable it chugs so bad. I'm thinking my throttle position sensor might be bad also.. I'll see after cleaning the body.....🛠
    Thanks again

Could be a few things my friend, however maybe read this guy's article here. www.yourmechanic.com/question/is-it-bad-when-oil-gets-into-the-throttle-body-by-heather-g
I'd atleast take your entire air I take out, like in my video and get a new filter, clean your MAS and throttle body really good.
You should instantly feel more power and maybe even run a little smoother.

I have changed the crankshaft sensor both camshaft sensors all new plugs I took the throttle body apart and cleaned it and the sensor I've changed my spark plugs I put new coil packs still no change it's the same so my question is where do I go from here..please help

Do you have any codes at all? If not, I did recently have a bad coil and plug, but that seems that you have already replaced those things. Other POSSIBLE and I'm guessing here... Fuel filter, fuel pump (hope not that thing was a pain in my ass to change) I can't really think of anything else unless you have codes, which it sounds you've done your due diligence at this point. I hope you find out the issue.
