    Results:
    45mph is most efficient at 43.5mpg.
    55mph gives 39.4mpg.
    65mph gives 33.8mpg.

      Consumer Reports had data tables for cars at different speeds around 1980. The results were the same. 45 mph was tops.

      @@shawnpa thanks for this. Car manufacturers should have a cruise control setting to automatically accelerate to that speed.

      @@eugenetswong They do, you can set your cruise control at what ever speed you like.

    Don't bother watching this, they don't show any results in the end. And also, this is not all what hyper-miling is. There are better videos on it on yt.

      I just bought a newish gasoline powered Ram 2500 4x4, after a 97 Power stroke diesel for 8 years. I am now concerned about mpg, it gets 12 vs 20 on the old f250. running at the highest speed, with the lowest rpm gets me up to almost 14mpg, at 52mph. Fuck everyone behind me. ,

    I love how they over-engineer the measurement. Just fill the tank to brimming, drive for 10 miles, then refil. Measure how much you had to put in.

  • @101Volts
    @101Volts 9 лет назад +5

    30 to 35 MPH is generally speaking the most fuel efficient of all, for all cars I've checked. (That includes cars from the 1950s.) MPG drops off both above and below that speed range.

    • @phillycheesetake
      @phillycheesetake 8 лет назад +2

      +Austin Lucas Well I can already tell you that you're wrong, because it's mostly dependent on the engine and gearing.

    • @101Volts
      @101Volts 8 лет назад +2

      +ChasingTruth TakingFlak I didn't say it was for every car, just for those I checked.

    • @VeritasEtAequitas
      @VeritasEtAequitas 8 лет назад +1

      +ChasingTruth TakingFlak He's pretty much right in general too. You usually want to be at the lowest speed for top gear and, with an auto, for the TCC to engage which is almost always around 35, sometimes delayed to 40-45 with A/C on. Wind resistance rises at the square of the velocity, and usually equals tire drag around 45.

    • @danielcamacho1913
      @danielcamacho1913 6 лет назад

      The lowest speed for top gear varies from 40 to 65mph, depending on the car. Even then, that isn't necessarily the most efficient speed for the car.
      I can shift my Mitsubishi into 5th gear at about 38mph without bogging down the engine, but the owners manual says it's most efficient at 50mph.
      I think it's designed for its home country, where many highways have speed limits of 80 km/hr.

    If you clicked to see results, you're better off reading the comments. I'm disappointed that the guy posting the results only has 6 likes (as of today).
    My comment is that cars generally get their best gas mileage at the speed where they go into their highest gear, so you need to know that speed. The owners manual for my Mitsubishi specifically says it gets the best mileage at 50mph.
    My optometrist that had a Corvette said 6th gear was so tall the V8 didn't like using 6th at speeds below 65mph. And at 65mph he got 30 miles/gallon.

    C'mon, folks. If they give it away on RUclips, how do they get people to buy commercial time so they can stay on the air? How do they pay for these shows?
    Right, they don't.

    Hypermiling is not about the speed. It's about the throttle control. I doubt there's much diff at constant speed. If you use scan gauge or OBDii readers you will know most of the gas is used during acceleration and braking

  • @HuxleyTheProf
    @HuxleyTheProf 7 лет назад +2

    65 is the best speed, anything over is wasteful. at least in my car, a 2.4 litre 4 cylinder.

    There is no fuel consumption while breaking besides engine idling... Why do people think your car uses fuel when you brake? it's just not "fuel efficient'

  • @karebu2
