- The Downtown Seattle Association (DSA) turns 60 in 2018, so we're celebrating by taking a look back at some of the ways in which DSA has helped create a healthy and vibrant downtown. This piece is narrated by historian Feliks Banel, and produced with support from Sellen Construction.
Sadly this is not today’s Downtown Seattle. Thousands of homeless people remain on the streets. The pandemic closed most major retailers downtown and they’re still not coming back. It’s a retail ghost town in Pioneer Square. Empty storefronts are all over the retail core. The good news is that the elevated freeway that used to cut Seattle off from its waterfront has been torn down, replaced with a tunnel, and pedestrians can easily enjoy and access the waterfront. We have a long way to go to restore what Seattle was like before the pandemic.
What a cool video! That last hopeful note about 3rd Avenue improving post 2018 couldn't be more laughable now in 2022. Unfortunately
Thank you for interesting video. As a tourist I wish to see more videos like this.
Thanks to all civil engineers.
