I had the distinct privilege of seeing Chris Cain in Dayton recently. First and foremost he is nice people -- the most genuine, down-to-earth guy who plays with an uncanny and joyful passion. Never seen anyone in 45 years who enjoys making music as much as him. Everyone there was wide-eyed, smiling, nodding or shaking their heads in near-disbelief. Just watch this video to hear how stunning and mind-blowing his playing and singing are. Thank you for visiting us and come back !
Chris is such an amazing performer ! He knows such great articulation and phrasing , Albert King used to come out to his shows in Memphis!!! Last time he was here in Des Moines I talked to him quite a bit more than previously when I had met him and would you beleive he is so humble he came up to me at the end of the night and thank ME for coming out !!! boy was I taken back ! Such a great soul , that guy :))) He is the MAN!!!
Love when he blows-off casual, throw-away riffs or chords, just for fun, but in fact, they're right where they belong, played perfectly. The super-jazzy riffs he uses a split second here & there prove that Cain's technical potential's way beyond most of what he plays. He keeps a lid on the headier stuff to main a blues feel. He can bust out w/a disarmingly complex line in the middle of it all, but usually uses his skill-headroom to refine simple stuff to the next level. No one does it better.
Seen Chris play in Narooma Blues Festival Australia a couple of years back, met the guy whilst watching Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs. Great bloke and he dont mind a beer or three. Brilliant blues guitarist. First time i had seen him and was very impressed. Absolutely brilliant. he puts so much into his music. Hope he comes back to Oz soon
how can a guy who can play like Chris Cain be soo humble ?? the more I listen the more amazed I am .... love the look on Tommy Castro's face from about 3:50 to 4:50
I loved Tommy's set - thanks so much for catching this song - and sending me the link to it!! LOL I was front and center with the bass JBL speakers blowing my hair and thumping my chest - whew!!!! The show was totally AWESOME!!!!
Had the distinct good fortune of seeing Chris Cain on a very regular basis in a small club, The Monterey Whaling Company, in Mt. View, CA. back in the mid-80s. Sat maybe 15 ft. from the stage and let this guy mesmerize me with his playing. Glad to see he's still around and really seems to have improved, well if a guy as good as Chris already was, can improve. WOW CHRIS... nice playing.
Great video, thanks for posting it, like deeblooz, I was up front of the stage with the woofers pounding, I tried getting video of this on my digital camera but the vibes from the speakers distorted the audio, I was bummed :( but now I found this video and I am grateful :) This set kicked butt, Chris Cain with Tommy Castro!! The whole whole festival was great, trust and believe this L.A. guy will be going back to Metro Fountain, best five bucks I ever spent!!
Chris is the same guy l meet 50 years ago, But 50times better he gets better each day .He's a master & always was .l Remember the l meet chris in a basement tryin out for Rene Solis . So funny .everyone said your great. Too good for us. Rene went on to be great ,cain went on to history. Love you love your sound Always will JJ 😅
This guy is one of the best for what he does!!! Chris is the fucking master!!! Tommy knows it, just look at his facial expressions in this video!!! Bravo!
I was there that day, enjoyed Tommy and Chris and the openers as well.Except when I got there and was standing in the walkway looking for a place to view the event about 20yrds away from the stage. Some jerk sitting in a lounge chair started yelling for me to get out of the way? I was like Dude, do you know in just a little while this whole place is going to be jumping and full of people? STF UP!!
In an interview CC tells how his dad used to take him to see BB King and Albert King and all the greats when they were in town (Frisco area). He said he got to meet BB when he was 3 year old! Albert King also praised CC in an interview and they were quite close. So I guess BB knew Chris Cain as well, blues world is a small world . And yes the masters must have been proud of the student...
Saw this show and thought both Chris and Tommy were in fine form!! Only thing, during the opening acts I was standing in a walkway between the grass areas trying to figure out where I was going to locate myself and I hear some jerk sitting on a lawn chair yelling at me to move out of the way? Yelled back at him "This your first Concert Man?" In my younger day's I would have gotten thrown out for breaking a lawn chair over the Idiot's head!! guess I'm learning to choose my battles more wisely?
Yeah, Chris is a modern day blues guitar master. I've always liked Tommy's music and playing. Mr. Cain, however, is taking elements from Carlton and Ford, while giving respect to the traditional players, and still using so much taste it makes you cry. I need to wipe off my keyboard now...and get back to work.
people should never try and sound like chris his style is so unique you'll end up sounding like him and not urself but still should listen and observe his style cause he's one of the last great real blues guitarists its cause of people like john mayer that this guy is still playing in clubs and not selling out arenas
quality... simple things: -if you dont milk a cow it will explode; -if i was immortal i would eventually eat myself; -Chris Cain is the one...the blues one
what... the dude can play fuck out of a guitar.. and hes definitely not the reason why this guy is playing in bars. the reason is because most people relate more to other types of music, or at least the image that those artists give off. and because times have changed and a blues guitarist can never be that popular.. at least around youth.
YOu fuckin dumb shit! chris is a great guitar player and very talented musician. Its idiots like you that make it hard to even watch youtube sometimes! Can you play better? If you can then post your video and send me your link
BB's one of the foundational players. For a modern electric blues lead guitarist to never do _any_ of his stuff would require either a conscious avoidance of it, an inability to play it, or a full-embracing of another style, such as Elmore James or Albert King. At this point in music history, to play well, in a _completely_ original, yet still authentically bluesy style, is virtually impossible. It's more a matter of including as much of your own stuff as you can, along with your influences. Cain has many influences; many of them apparent in this piece; from BB, Albert, & Buddy, to a touch of Wes, all in a mix with his own riffs, that adds up to _Chris Cain_. Please, when you criticize a player, post who _you_ think is currently any better. Unless you hate every player born after 1936, you don't have much of a case. Let's not forget: Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, & Freddy King all copped loads of BB's riffs. Albert King's probably the last totally-original player, and he was older than BB! (He just devoloped his style later.)

Went to college with Chris. You should have seen jaws drop the first day of blues improv after he started playing. A warm and humble soul.

In an interview CC tells how his dad used to take him to see BB King and Albert King and all the greats when they were in town (Frisco area). He said he got to meet BB when he was 3 year old! That is some wicked 335 spankin' by CC....a high octane version of Michael Bloomfield. Excellent.

wat een onzin zeg. De TCB speelt nog vrijwel dagelijks, nu tijdens de Blues Cruise, samen met andere grootheden in de blueswereld!
LOL, John Mayer? ummmmmmmmmmmm huh?
imitador malo de bb king

Lo siento , es mi opinion. No puedo disfrutar porque solo veo un farsante.
digamos que tiene su influencia, estoy de acuerdo, pero para imitador malo Clapton con Freddie King..no?

comomola30: Chris Cain isn't a copy of anyone. He's Chris Cain!!! An incredible musician, performer, and person.
YOu fuckin dumb shit! chris is a great guitar player and very talented musician. Its idiots like you that make it hard to even watch youtube sometimes! Can you play better? If you can then post your video and send me your link
worst comment ever man, this guy is one of the best players alive
