      I loved your reaction, this film appart of being a fairy tale shows us in a romantic and sweet way how two guys goes from enemies to lovers. Chemistry is incredible and how you said, the way that Henry shows his feelings just with his eyes without any word, Alex is the best Alex we could have.It's funny how Zhara treats Alex. According to the book, she has known him since she was 5 years old. Because of this film now I'm reading the book, and is more rich in how is the path and how many mails they had written. It could have been a series in 5 chapters with no doubt.

    To be fair, I think they took his phone and laptop as they believe they’ve been compromised. And Nicholas plays the piano in real life so I believe that’s actually him playing.

    • @AnxietyRat
      @AnxietyRat Год назад +4

      Yeah, the book made it very obvious that the hack came from Alex's email account. Not Henry's. But I also think it's realistic that the Royal establishment would confiscate phone and laptop until they discovered that themselves as well. And I mean the movie gives us Henry's perspective of the events that happened where is in the book we exclusively stay in Alex's perspective. So that was kind of an interesting change that they made in the movie... they switched to Henry's perspective a couple of times.

      @@AnxietyRat It should also be noted that the WH would do the same thing to Alex's Phone and Laptop, so it's a bit disingenuous for the guys to insinuate only "The Firm" does this kind of thing.

    • @AnxietyRat
      @AnxietyRat Год назад +1

      @@JonInCanada1 yeah, I don't remember exactly what happened to Alex in the book but I'm pretty sure they did a similar thing where they were like "don't use your electronics until we secure things please" just saying in general the firm is extremely fucking controlling and so it's obvious that they would extremely strictly control both Henry and Bea...more than the WH does with Alex in the book, IIRC.

    • @timjones4146

      IIRC in the book the White House/Secret Service also takes away Alex's phone and laptop to check for viruses/hacks. It takes a couple of days to find out it's the White House private email server that was hacked.

    They had a intimacy coordinator, they explained it as being a choreography, they would count step here, step there, kiss etc. And also to keep it light, once they cut after a intimate scene they would crack a joke, like get off of me etc. (Example in the blooper reel where Taylor aka The American blows a rasberry in Nicholas’s neck and Nicholas shoves him off him, telling him to go back to America.) Also the two actors came together 2 weeks before filming to rehearse and get to know each other because due to Covid they had their chemistry test through zoom and Matthew the director told they had a instant chemistry to the point he would have to yell to get their attention, between takes because they would be talking up a storm together. You can see that easy banter in the few interviews they did before the SAG-AFTRA strike started.

    The book explains the lack of security teams at the vacation house. Secret service basically has the are covered because it is owned by the president, and both Henry’s security team and Alex’s rended the house next door and are staying there very nearby.

      One of the deets that we don't get from the film, perhaps? They (the production) seem to cover it enough during the other shots. It's just seemed to be amiss there. But thanks for the heads up. Will be picking up that book!

      But he is also not just a prince, but a fairy tale prince in this fairy tale world, where Ellen became president in 2016 instead of "convicted r^pisr,." From the ridiculous cake incident on (who would want a cake so high you'd need a stepladder to start serving it and all the fuss happens with them so near the cake and no wait-people, etc. standing guard and ready to serve, and no one rushing to intervene when first they notice the kerfuffle), I just decided to sit back and let the silliness and love sweep over me. The type of fairy tale land like Cinderella, where mice and birds can sew a dress.
      Although yes, I would think there were be a lot more personnel around, in the corners, just out of reach, particularly for Henry. Particularly later when Alex seems able to just breeze into the palace with minimum layer of security.

    • @marthahammel8543
      @marthahammel8543 Год назад +4

      In the book Alex is screaming and yelling outside the palace and up at Henry’s window, making such a fuss they decide to let him in, alone with his security guard. He didn’t just walk in easily.
      The whole book was supposed to be an antidote to the toxic atmosphere many of us felt under a prior administration; an upbeat alternative.

    Casey McQuiston, who wrote the book, is nonbinary, and all three of their novels have queer protagonists. They may be a good interview for the channel/podcast.
    Btw, McQuiston is in the movie- they're on of the writers helping to write the concession speech at the end of the film (dark hair to Uma Thurman's left (right on the screen as we're looking at them - ack)), which I thought was fun.
    Also- did you see the end credit sequence? It's at the VERY end of the credits. Super cute.

    In the book, they always had PPO (personal protection officers) for both Henry and Alex, so I was always assuming that they were there, just watching from the edges.

    • @timjones4146

      Yes, at the lake the Henry's PPOs occupied a house adjacent to the First Family's house and the Secret Service occupied a house on the other side. The whole First Family gets Secret Service protection 24/7. The movie occasionally shows 1 or 2 additional security officers but the movie trims their appearance considerably, likely to fit withing the limited budget Amazon gave them. In London, for the first PR visit Alex stays at a guest house attached to Kensington Palace. Additionally, during both New Year's and the Prime Minister's visit Henry stayed at the White House as a "guest" of Alex.

    34:42 interesting comment about the piano playing considering the actor plays both guitar and piano in real life. 🙄

    • @AnxietyRat
      @AnxietyRat Год назад +2

      Yeah, I'm pretty sure the actor is actually playing the piano in this movie. To be fair, usually they show more full body shots when it is actually the actor playing... they did obscure his hands quite a bit in this movie for a movie where the actor is actually playing the instrument. 🤷‍♀️ It's a technique that's usually used when the actor ISN'T actually playing the instrument.

    • @Belaugh
      @Belaugh Месяц назад

      @@AnxietyRatYes, he is playing the piano. Watch some of his song videos, when he plays both piano or guitar. The reason his hands are often obscured here is to get a level two shot across the piano to show that they are together and at a level now after the trauma, emotionally and intellectually. A friend of mine once played Mozart in Amadeus, playing piano and writing linking music in Mozart's style. The staging had to be reblocked so audiences could see his hands and feet, as he was so good everyone had thought he was miming to a tape instead of playing live.

    Not so long ago Prince William said publicly that he would support any child of his who was gay/lgbt+ so this (excellent) film seems to show an "Americanized view of our monarchy, understandable and no problem to me... as for the phone confiscation? The book explains it better... but the crux is the communications security breach... Nice reaction on a lovely romcom, you have a new Brit subscriber

    • @AnxietyRat
      @AnxietyRat Год назад

      Yeah, the book is very very clearly written by an American. It's well-written.... But it is very American... And paints the British monarchy with a certain brush, for sure.
      There are also tiny mistakes that because it's written by an American makes sense... Like Henry in the book is called the Prince of Wales but as far as I understand... that title is only given to the heir to the throne... Henry is the spare, even in the book, so he wouldn't have that title IRL. If I have been misinformed about that detail please let me know... but as far as I know that is a mistake within the book. I am from Canada so I don't have the best understanding of the British monarchy so I could honestly be incorrect but someone else has said that that is true. 🤷‍♀️

    Zahra, the White House Cheif Of Staff not Press Secutary. I would find it difficult to belive the press secretary especially would have access to the master key to enter the first sons hotel room, where as the white house chief of staff would also not likely have the key she may be able to arrange access from the Secret Service who would have an access key but I find it unlikely they would allow anyone except perhaps the president herself to just walk into the room unbidden their protected. Seems like both the first son's and the princes security details where asleep on the job.

    An hereditary monarchy may be a bit archaic, but at least we avoid the possibility of someone like Boris Johnson or Jacob Rees Mogg being our elected Head of State. That would be almost as embarrassing as having Donald Trump as a Head of State.

  • @sobelou
    @sobelou 11 месяцев назад +1

    Guys, this reaction is very professional and well done. I would disagree however on your take on the British Royal Family. The comparison with Harry and Meghan is I think off the mark, they had a royal wedding at Windsor and it was only afterwards that they started carrying on, and while some of the blame may reside on some of the family members, they are hardly fault free, and their children's have received their royal titles, even though they had already decided to break ranks with the "working component" of the Family. In any case, the Monarch in the UK fulfills the same role as an elected Head of State in a parliamentary democracy. Even if they have zero political power, they represent the nation without the risk of having a Donald Trump or a Boris Johnson getting elected by a malleable public. PS The confiscation of the phone makes total sense, it was extremely likely that their electronic accounts had been compromised by the hackers, don't you think?
