Si fa tramite la cultura, cioè conoscendo l'opera e le stelle della lirica. Poi I gusti sono gusti, ma bisogna conoscere per giudicare avendo dei raffronti.

Thanks John Lennon for inspiring me the title “Imagine”. Now imagine great tenors of the wonderful old generation like Corelli, Caruso, Lanza, Björling and others having the chance of recording their singing with such high audio and video technology. I think I would have passed the rest of my life in front of that wonderful invention called “you tube”.

That 1.6 million views is probably mostly my views I show this video to everyone I'm still trying to wrap my head around why this guy isn't making music and going Platinum I'm guessing the operatic world is financially stable enough for him but who knows how much bigger he could become with such a stellar voice.
He's one of the most famous opera voice in the world from like 10 years or more...

I was going to write stellar but I'm thinking that isn't enough. That feeling you have when you're about to belt it out must feel as though no force in the universe can get close. Calling it 'the zone' is right but precious few ever get to spend time there. It must be exhilarating.

He is a baritonal tenor perfect for Puccini's bigger tenor roles, Wagner, verismo, and later Verdi and has been careful and smart enough to stay within those roles for the most part and so has reached the zenith of tenordom by carefully managing a great voice. In some ways he is the deep tenor equivalent of Alfredo Kraus who had a long distinguished career by staying with his true vocal range of the lighter roles and performing them perfectly for almost 50 years. Kauffmann has carefully resisted being pushed to sing roles either too light [e.g., some of the French tenor repertoire] or too heavy [Tristan for example although as he matures he may be able to conquer this role eventually] thus preserving and enhancing his voice and stage abilities. He should be a model for young singers who are pushed by agents or push themselves into roles too heavy or too complex for them at their stage in their careers. Some singers must put themselves forward In everything [one cannot imagine Callas, for example, restraining herself or Corelli singing light roles ever except by choice] but most singers need to remember that the greatest serve long growth periods [F..lagstad had been singing for over a decade and was thinking about retiring when she sang her first Isolde and Sutherland had been singing at Covent Garden for a decade before she "became an overnight sensation" with ther 1959 Lucia. We must return to a balance between singers and directors and conductors to bring about a new golden age of opera. In that balance, the singers must be pre-eminent as they are the instruments for which the music was written; the directors, stage designers, and conductors must be willing to bring out the best in those "instruments" rather than demanding behaviors which undermine the ability to meet the musical demands of the composers. Stage directors in particular must stop thinking that they can direct operas in exactly the same way they direct spoken plays. As a person who has performed both straight plays, and classical music [albeit as an amateur[, I know that there is a real difference in what a pure actor as opposed to a singing-actor can do if the full intent of a work is to be achieved..

Magnificent. The best Caravadossi ever.
I’m on the fence about Kaufmann a lot- now don’t throttle me because I’m not negating his COMPLETE AND UTTER gift as a vocalist. However something about his shaping just sits in an odd place with me and works better in certain arias than others. For example in this I am utterly in love with his resonance and timbre and something about his vowel shaping just suits the verbiage of the aria VERY well. But in his performances from Turandot, I just don’t think his timbre and shaping work as well as others in the role? Call me crazy idk- and don’t get me wrong he is FANTASTICALLY talented, and I particularly love this rendition of Recondita Armonia!

Wonderful voice, not quite in the class of the young Corelli but no one is. IMO Kaufmann and Calleja are the best tenors for Italian opera around today.

@@pugh.joseph he's a bit wobbling and weak in the higher registers. Like the majority today, very strong and velvet in the medium and weak in the high ones. Overall not bad though. Better than Kaufmann for sure
@@alvarodecampostabacaria4223 Personally I think he has a very strong high, why do you think he has a weak higher register? I agree that his middle (and lower) is incredible though and to me, I hear a darker, more rounded sound than other tenors today.
@@pugh.joseph when you have a good singing technique the higher you go, the more powerful and more volume you acquire. For most tenors today is the opposite, they are lions on the middle and mice in the high, see Meli and others, Kaufmann recurs to falsetto without any shame. The strength of the note should be the same in any register. Try and compare with Di Stefano, Del Monaco or any others of that time and earlier and you'll understand what I'm saying. Having said that, this guy is not bad at all.
One tenor I like is also Angelo Villari if you want to check him out

@@amantedellopera1681 All good, but none of them are the best. Search Giuseppe Giacomini's recording from live in concert on RUclips, now that is staggering.
Giacommini was a brilliant tenor much underrated i think.his polione is exceptional.he did however in later years sound quite heavy and thick sounding but thats age and years of singing it happened del monaco and corelli too.
