Ha! People couldn't believe that black people wanted to see movies about black people! You Sir, are the very best on the internet!
Another great video from RUclips’s most underrated creator!
Definitely he let you know in detail what went on behind the scenes and paints a wonderful picture of it.
Hear, Hear! I second that.
Binge watching for weeks now
PlayGlow Agreed!
Word
Absolutely love "blaxploitation" genre. I wish it didn't have a negative connotation. There is a whole treasure trove of very excellent movies here. On par with dirty harry and death wish.
Chance Paladin agreed! All the PC idiots out there that look down on Blaxploitation cinema can kiss my ass, cause I'm a huge fan & supporter of these films & their historical importance.
@Hey Zeus I still don't get the hypocrisy of white male critics bitching about these films but just LOVE that Stepin Fetchit garbage
👍Black Caesar, The Mack, The Harder They Come....
Thank you Good Bad Flicks for posting on my birthday.
Bless up, I'll blaze one.
@Joseph Wilson thank you!
Man this channel is the business! Greetings from Kenya 🇰🇪
Awesome movie, awesome car, awesome soundtrack!!
My dad’s nickname was Fly because back in the 70’s, he had straightened hair and drove a Cadillac that looked like that badass car in the movie.
In my brief tenure as a film blogger, one listicle I wrote was the 10 best 70s soundtracks. This was probably my first pick, along with "The Harder They Come" for how much influence they had on music, in general. This movie, along with Scarface, and Blow, were my college roommate's "going out and getting messed up on drugs" movies we'd put on at the start of the night.
We were both too ignorant to notice how these movies end... until we wised up. I cannot speak the same for everyone I've known.
It's always glamorous (until it's not.)
Thanks for covering one of my favorite movies.
...and for taking it seriously. Another reason why I love this channel.
:)
Curtis Mayfield is critically underrated. One of the true Greats.
Absolutely 👍
Movies like this are what I point to when someone brings up Marvel's black panther.
My only regret is that I have but one "like" to give for this. A-freaking-mazing. I can't imagine the leg work to put all of this together took. Much respect.
Thanks!
@@GoodBadFlicks I like your dedication to this particular video.
Sometimes, a movie like this shows the real life than most of any reality tv of today.
The 1970s are where the best of gritty, violent, in your face movies are from. Keep on keeping on man
This was an Amazing video of a classic. I'm curious to wonder you're going to do an Exploring video on The Wiz. 😏
Yes, please Cecil, I would LOVE to see an exploring video of The Wiz. The Wiz is a cult classic, that doesn't get the props it deserves! It actually has a decent fanbase.
this is what I´m talking about, you can feel the pasion all over the video; Thanks Cecil.
This isn't an exploration video Cecil, this is a video essay about the movie, well done my friend!!!
One of my all time favorite movies, and movie soundtracks
Excellent !!! Well done. I saw this on the big screen back in the 70's.
It's such a good soundtrack
I didn't know Curtis Mayfield became a quadriplegic! That's too bad, loved that era/genre in music.
"What did i tell you about interrupting my Kung Fu?"
Every week I forget that you upload on Mondays and it always makes my day.
Great movie! Shiela Frazier (Georgia) wore her own furs for her part.
BRAVO! Well done and thought out. I came across this movie and passed it by as old and lame. Well I have to admit, I'm rethinking it now. Time for a movie night. Thanks man!
Lots of great facts and such a positive outlook on this movie. Classic.
Thank you. My father always told me this was a great movie. I'm glad you helped show/explain that.
The upcoming Shaft movie is supposed to be a Sequel to the 2001 film, making it similar to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
RUclips owes you a debt of gratitude. Original and educational. Can you dig it?
One of the best films I ever studied. You have clearly done your homework here.
This poster was on my Bathroom wall
For some reason our bathroom had posters of bodybuilders on the walls. A couple of em were black even. My dad wasn't a bodybuilder.
@Houdini Or maybe it was my mom, flicking her bean?
I can dig it...
Another movie to add to my watch list. Great video as always!
Great video! I like that you touched on the soundtrack, the Super Fly soundtrack is awesome. Most Blacksploitation movies have soundtracks that are better than the movies themselves. The Mack is another good one.
Instant thumbs up every damn video !
Hell, I even turn off my ad-blocker when he drops a new one!
If movie tickets cost $1.70 today I'd certainly be seeing more movies. I hope you cover more Blaxploitation films like Coffy and Black Cesear.
IKR? Today they're like $15 bucks or something. No thank you.
I remember in my city you could drive almost to the other side in order to go to The Birdcage which was a discount theater (in name only as there was nothing too "discount" about it). I think the tickets were 5 bucks versus 12 at the time, since long demolished though.
@@dsandoval9396 $11.25 at my local theater.
@@Madbandit77 RIGHT NOW!?
Holy crap! Last I remember here in my shitty city it was $12 (maybe +change) and that was about 10 years ago!
The equivalent of 16 dollars here in Sweden. Often they force you into the 3d bullshit, so you have to pay more. And they wonder why people pirate. Also considering that something like 50% of the total budget goes to dumb shit like marketing😕. Smh. You can bet that the Indians or Chinese don't pay those prices. I get a couple of free tickets per year and that's enough for me, save em for movies that actually deserve to be seen in theaters. Can't remember the last time I bought a ticket.
But it's kinda like college in the US. It was (relatively) dirt cheap back in the day, but is ridiculous now. Bottom line is that they can charge us insane prices because we continue to pay, even if it means going into debt for our entire lives.
@hkistreet Adjusting for inflation doesn't tell the whole story with regards to purchasing power though.
There are also some blaxsploitation horror movies like Blackenstein and Blackula.
Perfect timing GBFs, right on my break.
One of my favorite films of all time. It's so damn good. I appreciate you covering it sir.
I think that's the best one you've done yet
Bravo!!!! … Love your channel!....I love revisiting these good bad flicks without having to sit thru them again...
"Mondays suck. But if GoodBadFlicks uploads, it's just our luck!" :)
Smartest move the filmmakers did was contacting Curtis Mayfield to write the score. Best soundtrack ever!
Outstanding review and exploration of a complex genre. You captured it all. Thanks, again.
Thank you!
Another fantastic and informative video. Great job- much appreciated
A lot of people in the past have mistaken Superfly to be some hammy 70's movie but it's a real film. The lead is relatable/down to earth and the core theme in the movie (breaking free/overcoming) is timeless. Plus the music is a character in the film, there's long takes where they simply let Mayfield's song play out. No question though it has that 70's funk to it, really a time capsule of New York in the early 70's similar to Mean Streets.
EXCELLENT as always.....one of my fave all time movies and soundtracks, with SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER (another gritty street movie with ANOTHER great soundtrack) only being it's equal.....thank you as always for giving somewhat forgotten movies the respect they deserve.
Thank you sir for another fine video, I truly appreciate it. I love this channel.
This upload is on point!
I’m glad you mentioned Black Dynamite! That film was hilarious and such a love letter to the genre. If you like old school blaxploitation, check it out!
Would love to see 2 other movies explored: Dog: Way of the Samurai, and Way of the Gun.
I really love watching and appreciate your exploring series. Can't get enough (Even when I probably should be getting back to work!)
Thanks!
That jump over the fence tho
I think I will have to watch this movie now. Tks.
I always knew you had soul 😎
A great video as usual, well researched, well edited, and it even had an 'In memoriam' like the Oscars... And I though I knew movies... Thanx!!!!
Super Fly was a good movie, and had a great soundtrack!
Bravo! One of your best vidoes ever!
Fantastic review - one of the best yet!
As always thank you an incredible amount! I can show your review to my ignorant friends as a means of solidifying what I have been trying to tell them about these movies for a looong time! Spot on my friend!
You are vert welcome :)
Great video!! Can't wait to see the next one!! ❤
Great info! Always appreciate your research.
You continue to kick ass! Thanks for the knowledge.
Shep
I did not see this coming. Great exploring video.
Aw, hails yeah!
Good vid. Can you do Truck Turner, Dolemite, Coffee too . Other dope blaxpoitation films
Throw in the Black Cobra trilogy, Three the Hard Way and any film starring Fred Williamson, Jim Brown, Jim Kelly, Pam Grier and so on.
How about Abby? Or The Mack.
Awesome birthday present! Love your videos!
Awesome work! Have you considered covering The Warriors?
Excellent job on this! Your channel is so awesome.
awesome video as always! keer the great work sir!
Thanks for video and all your hard work
Dope videos! I'm a independent filmmaker and your videos motivates me to the highest!
The Superfly remake was set in Atlanta, Georgia by the way.
Please do more blaxploitation! This is probably one of my favorite movies and you picked my favorite part of the movie for the outro. "White killers!"
“WHAT THE HELL DID YOU EXPECT?! You screened this for a bunch of white bread!” 😂
You always do such a great job with the homework on these films. Please, please, please do an exploring episode on the 1984 movie "Runaway."
Nice choice to look back on. Even learned a few things I didn't know before.
Great video. I have watched nearly all of your videos but I just caught this one. I’ll tell you I thought I was the patron saint of unloved movies but you got me beat dude. It’s good to see somebody on this damn platform Saying something positive. You are one cool white dude!👍
this recap was fly
I was expecting this to be a sequel to The Fly where Seth Brundle gets cloned and becomes a super hero
Interesting concept... But I really don't see Brundlefly as a "hero".
@@iwrestledabear1s The cloning technology would do a better job of mixing the fly and human DNA, kinda like the Ripley clone in Alien Resurrection. And Hank Pym wasn't always a superhero. The same could happen to Brundle.
I mean that is pretty much The Fly 2.
Here you go.

holy moly ur subs have gone up so much. ive been here for forever. i thought you still had like 2000 subs. good job man
would love it if you did more blaxsploitation!
Fantastic commentary.... again!
Great video dude. Love the channel.
Fun fact
My dad was one if the musicians on the shaft soundtrack
We love these!
Such a good movie. I gotta go rewatch it now cause of this supafly review.
Fuckin CLASSIC!! The soundtrack is iconic too.
A blackplotation movie for a rising hungry demographic opposed by a moral organization of colored people. Go figure.
Hey Cecil every new exploring episode is so deep, man. One can feel the love and passion you have for film making in each word. You need triple the subs you got dude. You are a criminally underrated channel. I wish you the best! ✌
Superfly and The Mack are two of the best blacksploitation films. Dolemite was highly entertaining as well. Please review The Mack!
Love everything you do, please, please, please do "Munchies" (1987) next... Another Corman classic....
If you haven't seen it, there was a movie that came out in the late '90's called "Original Gangsta's" that teamed Oneal up with Jim Brown, Richard Roundtree, and Pam Grier, pre-"Expendables" style!!!!
An interesting watch.. and a surprise to be sure.
I love classic Blaxploitation film soundtracks! The Superfly album is my favorite. Sure, the theme from Shaft is arguably the standout song of Blaxploitation, but song for song the Superfly album is solid as a whole entity!
Awesome video thanks man
This is ur best one ever!!!! The black delegation gives u the thumbs up😁
Oh hell yes! My favorite movie!
Another great review, Cecil, my friend! Would you ever consider doing any of the Blaxploitation horror films, like Blacula, or Sugar Hill, or Abby?
A Very well done job Cecil!
This was great man, I love this film. You should explore the Dolemite movies. (Rudy Ray Moore) they are incredible. Right on.✊🏼✊🏼
Eddie Murphy is going to be in a Rudy Ray Moore biopic coming soon on Netflix.
excellent work
Great job!!
Excellent review! 👍
Thanks!
