Meet Oliver Zeidler (

Rowing is in the genes of Oliver Zeidler's family: grandfather Hans-Johann Färber won Olympic gold in the quad scull in 1972; father Heino Zeidler was fourth twice in the World Cup; uncle Matthias Ungemach won two world championship titles, in 1990 in eight and 1991 in quad as helmsman; aunt Judith Zeidler celebrated the 1988 Olympic victory in the DDR eighth and his younger sister Marie-Sophie Zeidler was already able to win World Cup and European Championship medals at junior level. It is therefore surprising that Zeidler's sports career began as a swimmer in instead of on the water. It wasn't until the age of 20 that he switched to rowing and has made headlines ever since with his rapid development. In 2019, the exceptional talent crowned himself three times with gold at the German championship, European championship - the first German European Championship victory in a single since 1973 - and World championship. The objective for the coming years is clear: a successful participation in the Olympics and a medal at the European Championships. Here on the regatta course in Oberschleißheim, where his grandfather triumphed 50 years ago.

Das Rudern liegt bei Oliver Zeidlers Familie in den Genen: Großvater Hans-Johann Färber holte 1972 olympisches Gold im Vierer; Vater Heino Zeidler war zwei Mal WM-Vierter; Onkel Matthias Ungemach holte zwei Weltmeistertitel, 1990 im Achter und 1991 im Vierer als Steuermann; Tante Judith Zeidler feierte 1988 den Olympiasieg im DDR-Achter und seine jüngere Schwester Marie-Sophie Zeidler konnte bereits auf Juniorenlevel WM- und EM-Medaillen gewinnen. Dass Zeidlers Sportlerkarriere als Schwimmer im statt auf dem Wasser begann, verwundert daher. Erst im Alter von 20 Jahren stieg er auf das Rudern um und sorgte seither mit seiner rasanten Entwicklung für Schlagzeilen. 2019 krönte sich das Ausnahmetalent gleich dreifach mit Gold bei der Deutschen Meisterschaft, Europameisterschaft - der erste deutsche EM-Sieg im Einer seit 1973 - und Weltmeisterschaft. Die Zielsetzung für die kommenden Jahre ist damit klar: eine erfolgreiche Olympiateilnahme und eine Medaille bei der Heim-EM. I had the pleasure to meet him this year at the Munich masters , he was an absulute gentalman and had no issue with his fans asking for selfies i must say he is an inspiration , and i think he will be the best that has ever been in the single scull and an absiulute inspiration to young atheletes Respect
