    That ‘Tooting Common’ story actually happened to my mum who was a clippie on the 19 bus. A tourist at the northern end of the route asked for what she heard as TC. She put him off at the Bec and pointed him towards the common when he realised he was way past the British Museum and the Tutankhamen exhibition. So she let him ride back for free on her bus with a ticket she gave him.

    Thanks for all your super interesting videos! I'm living in Sweden and have only been to London as a Tourist - about 15 times..
    About 30 years ago, I flew into Stansted airport - AND forgot a very expensive bag on the plane. I just had to get it back, so the next day I took a Taxi from Craven terrace W2, to Stansted to pick up the bag. A return trip with the same driver. He was a very happy man. I think I made his day.
    All my experience with you guys are positive. Keep up the good work!

    8:35 and... forgive me if it is different in London but in England in general you can stop on double yellow lines to pick up and drop off passengers or unload or load goods regardless of if you are a taxi or not! It’s a misconception that you can’t stop there! Although in my town people seem to see getting a takeaway pizza as loading goods into the vehicle... but that’s living in a small town with lenient traffic wardens for you.

    I think there should be a distinguishing badge or sticker visible from the outside of the cab denoting whether a driver is a Green Badge holder or a Yellow Badge holder.
    One could then quickly tell which area the driver was an expert in, either the local suburb or the central area of London. This would be more useful in areas on the border of central and suburbs.

    Great video Tom! With events and big venues like stadiums and the o2, are there drivers who will always work in these areas? The only logical way I could think of doing it would be, depending on preferred working times, if you passed one of those places on the way in, that makes sense to have a look in the area. Stopping by when you're wanting to go home may not be as tempting in case you get a job back into central!

    • @Cabdrum1
      @Cabdrum1 Год назад +3

      Electric Black Cabs are hybrid. When the battery has around 5% charge left the petrol engine is automatically engaged and maintains that level of charge (5%) until the battery is charged again. The driver can also engage the petrol engine manually at anytime. So say there was still 70% charge left it would maintain the battery at 70%.The petrol engine doesn’t charge up the battery it just keeps whatever level of charge is in it constant.

      Yes, all trial and error I guess. Some parts of town I instinctively go with the flow, like Bloomsbury or Fitzrovia. Other times I am guilty of riding the traffic, it's just constantly refining routes and getting feedback I guess 😊
      I remember when I first got out I was by TCR. Gent wanted Chiswick (later at night I might add). I did the greatest map line ever (Bayswater, Shepherds Bush, Goldhawk Road etc to cut my way down to Hogarth Roundabout). He didn't say anything, but when I dropped he was like; "What an earth was that?". I of course gave a very reasonable discount on the fare.
      From then on, unless I am obscenely high, if someone says Hogarth roundabout, it's an automatic cue to head for the A4!

    Idea for you after the Tom scot video. Why not contact Geoff Marshall and do one of his tube races. These are where he races say a Walker or other mode of transport to see what’s faster. Maybe he could race against you. Also love to see vid u too where you tell him some railway facts that link to taxis link to dripping off and he tells you some railway facts linked to taxis so random tit bits history factoids. Then some thinks like where u drop off pic up and both discuss how it works both sides

      I would love this! Always think about this. However he's pretty difficult to find contact for! Perhaps I should drop him a line on Twitter

    Do cabbies still refuse to go south of river? Did cabbies ever actually refuse to go south of the river? Why? Popular myth I've heard but having lived in south all my life its never actually happened to me. I do notice you don't seem to go south a lot but that is just the nature of being in the centre, with of course the exception of Wimbledon...

    That long awkward pause at the ending, can I ask, do you do that on purpose?

    Ruined by TFL, again.. sector 7 no knowledge of the area and not licensed, but a back hander from a certain marshall ensured they could..

      If you mean Wimbledon, more than a few residents make a fortune renting their house out for the fortnight.
