I preboil maize, once it's cooked,I put potatoes on top and drizzle some salt.On the side,I boil 'kahurura'-not pumpkin leaves but in the same family of pumpkin leaves. We call it 'kahurura' in Gikuyu.,Once the leaves are cooked,I blend.I then mash the potatoes and maize mixture and finally pour the blended leaves onto the potato mix and mash untill the mix is consistently green.I then separately kaanga kitunguu and pour over the mukimo and mix...Your recipe sounds interesting and I will definitely try it.
Waoo mashaa Allah amazing nice I will try this method too as for me I boil everything first together including unripe bananas n beans or any kind of cereals then lastly nakaanga baada yakuziponda
Wololo...the Kikuyu in me is rioting while watching this recipe ...I was taught to boil maize first, add potatoes when maize is almost done, add your kahurura in,once the kahurura (pumpkin leaves) is cooked, put in a blender and blend well..when the potatoes are ready ,add your kahurura and mash...PS..make sure you don't put more water than necessary . That means,by the time the mukimo is ready, you don't need to pour any water out.. In a separate sufuria,I fry onions(preferably the green ones) then add my mukimo and stir... There are many ways to kill a rat though
I rub my pumpkin leaves (kahurura) with salt while still raw and crush them ,then boil them together with potatoes ,add my pre boiled maize when potatoes are almost done, i mash them together ,fry green onions kando with oil or margarine pour in the mukimo mix well and serve
This is a must try recipe @Milly you are the best and those sufurias are so cute😍😍for us we first cook the leaves for a few minutes let them cool for a while then blend them
I didn't know this method najua the one you boil everything without onions then fry the mokish later with onions....learnt kitu 😋😋 one of my favourite dishes

Wow, a new way of making mukimo Milly. Very impressive. Clearly there are so many ways of doing the same thing. Glad that I watched. Mine is mukimo loaded which includes beans, raw bananas and pumpkin.
This is modern cooking indeed, how technology has eased work...I never tried this but i will. Back home my mum used to mix githeri (mixture of beans & maize), then potatoes, then kahurura simultaneously in a POT(if u knw u knw, the AFRICAN pot). . .then fly on separate sufuria... Rumours has it food cooked from The Pot used to be more sweet...
Thank you Milly. I looove Mukimo and i was very excited to try out this recipe. Ilitokelezea vizuri sana. Now a die hard fan. Will try the matoke in peanut sauce next! You make them look so easy. Geez, I've never seen mukimo made this way!! Amazing, gotta try it. It must be very delicious. The traditional way of making mukimo is very boring as it has to be fried with onions to be tasty. Your mukimo style makes it ready to be enjoyed right away. Good job!
1.Fry onions 2. Put potatoes(( with ndizi or pumpkins-optional )) 3.When the potatoes are half cooked add githeri and unblended pumpkin leaves and leave to simmer Nb/dont stir 4. Mash once the water drys... 5. Serve with favorite stew
I first fry the potatoes , add a cup of water , then add the pumpkin leaves , add the githeri and salt then cover the pot .. Wait for for roughly 30 mins but you can check if the potatoes are ready by checking using a mwiko... If there no water left start to mush ... #Original Kikuyu way
