I encourage anyone who wants to propel their woodworking skills to do steves courses. I can't say it enough, I started a few years back with the weekend woodworker course, and then the workshop one. Tackling projects now on the powered up course. I've gained so much from this. With xmas around the corner, this the perfect gift. Thanks Steve
Hope you enjoyed the video! If you'd like to make these planes, plans are available here. Pay what you want, and Happy Holidays! 🎅 shopwwmm.com/products/toy-planes-u-s-and-metric
This takes me back to a 8 yo me, fumbling around my papaws shop looking for scrap to build a simple airplane. Started my love of woodworking. I would sit for hours watching him.
This has nothing to do with this episode, but I just wanted to tell you that whenever I don’t know what to watch as I’m relaxing at the end of the day, I turn to WWMM. I always seem to get something out of it, even the repeats, but mostly it is just having a friendly, comforting voice to remind me that life is good that is so soothing. Thank you for what you do and how you do it. Happy holidays and a very happy new year to you and yours.
Okay, I know I already commented once on this video, but since there isnt a law saying i cant post twice, Im gonna! Life has personally been a bit stressy and depressy lately and this video made me so happy and inspired me to go out into the wood shop and have some fun doing something i enjoy! Thanks so much Steve!
Rear wings: horizontal stabilizer, elevators... Rear wings... It's all the same, Steve. 😊 Either way, beautiful work!!! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊 And happy holidays!
Steve! It's so great to see you! I miss your content. I recently started to get back into woodworking after taking a break. Your videos seriously taught me so much. I think my first two or three projects were yours. I was looking around at all the youtubers there are now doing woodworking but you will always be the grand chief of all of us Mere Mortals. Seriously. Its starting to feel like 90% of woodworkers on here are using all of the expense to tools to make crazy projects. I miss WWMM it fills a niche we really need. Wood working for FUN!
Hey Steve- I love your videos. I've learned a metric sh!t-ton from you over the years! The tail portion of the plane is called the 'Empennage' just so you know.....I love your teaching style so please don't stop.
Thank you. I teach a high school automotive repair classes, but as we come to the holiday season. I think this would be a great project... with limited tools I have, think the cut the thickness in half would be the hard part... I guess it 1/2 board cut to 1/4in? If I have that done beforehand, I think this would be a great project to learn other trades tools as well as order of operations. Again thank you. (I have a small bandsaw and two scroll-saws, one belt/disc sander, and 30 students per class, FYI. So, any other tips would be great, thanks)
Great toy planes, Steve! I am still hoping for a toy coffee table, though!

Chiming in on similar voices: a weekend woodworker gift making course. Birdhouses, toys, kitchen utensils etc. I know you covered most if not all, bit in a course, explaining options and reasoning etc, i’d be in!❤🎉
Those are awesome I really appreciate how remind me that items like this should be made if you're a collector of tools and scrapwood I'll keep doing my best without a drill press ;)
Hey Steve, how are you liking that Wen Bandsaw. I still don't have a bandsaw, and am always weighing out my options. I'd love to hear your opinion on the one you got.
I followed Steve's videos since 11 years ago. The first video I watched was making a wooden train whistle. I always wanted to be a woodworker. But ended up being a mathematics PhD student! Which is not cool enough!
It's an ideal project for the scroll saw. Thinner boards and if getting a nice fit is a problem you can use sandpaper stuck to scrap wood a file or rasp.
Hello Steve, I believe I have the same table saw as you, Porter Cable, which they no longer make. If you were to replace your table saw with a compreble one, what would it be?
Having made these before, I will say it is doable with a coping saw and not as bad as one might think. That said, if you are going to use this project as an excuse to a bandsaw, then I won't tell on you.
No, No, No, No, No....every man must go out and buy a band saw, it's absolutely necessary. You cannot produce a quality Christmas present for the kids/grandkids unless you have a band saw. Also a drum sander, a router, a table saw, a planer, a jointer...lathe........drill press................mini fridge.....................................
@@egonmilanowski YES! it almost goes without saying! I'd recommend that you sell all that fancy crystal, china and silverware. You'll use that Bridgeport every day!
If you built a stand of some sort to hold your porta-band saw securely upright (see Adam Savage and BlondiHacks for examples) any of the portable band saws would work for little projects like this, although they are pretty slow for cutting wood. Porta-band saws don't like wood chips, or PVC chips either, so clean the saw well when you are done, and install a wood cutting blade if you can find one that fits. Something in the 8-12 TPI range. However, there are economically priced small bandsaws from Wen, Jet, Rikon and Grizzly that are ready to do these sorts of projects right out of the box. Good little machines for their price and, depending on why you have the Porta-band, worth not messing up your plumbing saw.
“If that’s your thing”…..A bit hard if i may say so, not everyone has the money for expensive equipment and do the best with what they have, I guess you don’t need the subs
What are you on about, my guy. He has the bear minimum himself (little more). If you're complaining about his equipment, then I suggest staying far away from every other woodworker on RUclips, lol. The trick is finding a way to make the project with what you do have not moaning about what you don't. You shouldn't degrade someone just for having more tools then the other guy. 90% of woodworkers have more tools then he showed today.

Fun Fact: There is no name for those rear wings.
Well played! Please, placate with no platitutes: do these plain plane plans need a planer?
Thanks für the Plane Plans. I just purchased them and allready Build my First Plane 💪
Great idea. Will try a resaw on the tablesaw. Perhaps a scrolling blade in the jig saw or use a coping saw.
Pin dis! 💕👍
Horizontal stabs (short for stabilizers). Nice, fun project, thanks!
Now I have to buy a bandsaw. Great job Steve!

Great little video - I'm going to buy these plans to make with my grandson! Any chance you're going to do something similar for a girl's toy?
I like the classic wwmm videos . Like last weeks video and this video when Steve would make toys.
Will you be doing a course on these as well. Weekend Toymaker or something. Also have you looked at miniature wooden houses?
Cool airplanes Steve! And a great way to use up some scrap wood. 😊😊😊❤❤❤
Such a fun little project.
❤ Great idea. I would love to see more of these small wood project videos. No pressure. Thank you for sharing.
Cool toys, Thanks Steve!

Nice Christmas gifts for the appropriately aged child. Merry Christmas to you and yours, Steve. Thanks for sharing.

Steve, put the glue on a flat tooth pick then spread the glue inside the wheel, it works a lot better not much of a chance getting it on the axle
Nice to see and hear you again nice work and video
What do you recommend for a first bandsaw.
I love these toy builds :)
Do a trainset out of toothpicks next!
Restaurant I worked at in hgh school closed down, and I took 2 boxes of toothpicks (1000ct each) and made a replica of the building out of them.
@@DCgamer723I'm a model builder myself. I've always loved toothpick models, but not something I've dabbled with.
I think Steve needs to make the toothpicks though. Just think of the views that would get!
Can I use a scroll saw to cut these out?
Absolutely! But it would probably make sense to use thinner boards and make it twice, unless you have some other way to cut the board into two.
Thank you so much.

Nice to see you. Missed you when you quit doing projects.
Can you tell me which video shows you making the wall mount fold down workcenter or workbench? Thanks.
I think you found out how to boost your engagement, Steve. Just give the wrong name for an airplane part and the comments will roll in!

Hello Steve, I believe I have the same table saw as you, Porter Cable, which they no longer make. If you were to replace your table saw with a compreble one, what would it be?

The "tail wings" are actually called the elevator/stabilizer
What kind of glue do you use to put on the paper templates?
Spray adhesive. Any brand works fine
The rear wings are called horizontal stabilator. In the military we just called them horstab.
👍👍👍.Thanks
Hi Steve,
What software do you use for your plans?
Rear wing thing = Horizontal stabilizer or horizontal stab. And on the back of those is where the elevators are. Thanks for the video
Opinion for next tool (~$500)- Planer, Jointer, or Table router?
Buen trabajo
Si, RUclips es muey beuno trabajo.

Has anyone tried using the M18 bandsaw for delicate cuts like these?

If the recipient has to turn the propeller with their fingers that means they are ... hand planes.
' Wheel supports under the wing ' AKA ' Landing gear. '
Fact: The name for the "rear wings" is actually called the horizontal stabilizer in the aviation world.
Horizontal stabilizer.
Santa helpers toys for the kids
the name for "those rear wing things" is horizontal stabilizer.
their called "the horizontal"
you need to send it green
Tailplanes sounds more familiar

Seems like that was more a comment about hand tools vs power tools
Completely misinterpreted his comment….
