I just need to say: It's so fricking amazing for me, as a guy who does judo for 13 years now, to see one of my most inspiring persons on yt to train this sport in legendary Japan. Like it does not even feel real, to see you succed on this journey, that could easily be 100 years old. I wish you good luck over there and keep on beeing such a humble person.
Veey happy for you. it was my dream to go to college in Tokyo, attend the Kodokan and win the Olympics in the late 70s. instead i joined a great rock band and resigned myself to teaching. All my Judo came to an end in 2008 when it became apparent my injuries and surgeries wouldn't allow Judo anymore. i am extremely glad you are living this life and have become such a good ambassador for Judo.
What a great opportunity Chadi. You're definitely the man for this job! If you can, please let us know how you got invited. What steps did you take to get to train there? Who do we contact?
Thank you for sharing Chadi, for taking us along with you on your journey. I share your respect for the Japanese Budo. My own first teacher was straight out of that old school. He was not out to give one a compliment that one didn't deserve. So when you receive one it is warmly received. All the best to you. Laoshr #60 Ching Yi Kung Fu Association
Tell us everything you can about the Kodokan! How big is it? Where do you stay? How much are the hostels nearby? What does one need to know to get the opportunity to train there!?
Every judoka,s dreams of training in Kodokan, and although I have not achieved this knowledge yet, one of the most important teachers in Kodokan today, Mr. Chikara Kariya, was my teacher in Syria for five years.
First congratulations that's really good news you deserve it to be in such place i am really looking forward for next videos in the kodokan . Second do the kodokan still stick with the old style judo or the Olympic style ? Thank you
Looking forward to your coverage of the Kosen Judo at Kyoto University. Remember in Tokyo too there is Newaza Kenkyukai. Btw what course u are taking there?
I am amazed. I have an opportunity here to travel to japan for a year or two and i have been wanting to learn judo for years! I have a question if i may ask..1) they have adult classes in english? Ive been self teaching myself japanese in anticipation of this move however im mot at that level yet im afraid.
If you are stayig in the Kansai Region there are some places you have to visit. NIJOJO (Nijo Castle) in Kyoto. FUSHIMI INARI (I used to train running up tho se steps 20 years ago.) If the cherry blossoms are still in bloom walk The Philosopher’s Path in Kyoto. Osaka has some of the best food and nightlife around Umeda and Nipponbashi, but don't overdo it!
congratulations. I remember asking you 2 years ago if you are going to visit japan like the karate guy ... will you do only judo or maybe you will do some visits to japanese jujitsu styles?
Hi Chadi, I want to take my kids to Japan, ages 10 and 14, next year. I want them to train every day. Would you recommend the kodakan or somewhere else.
How were you able to gain entry to the country? I saw that Japan still has tourists barred from entering the country. I tried to set up a training stay at the Kodokan in Tokyo but was advised they could not accept me because the COVID travel ban on tourism was still in effect. Are you there on business travel, foreign student, or as an academic? If you do not want to answer these on the board, please message me with the information as to how you made this trip possible.
Going to Kodokan, moving up in the world, 😉. I remember something about a fellow saying Westerners were used for Uke quite a lot long ago, around start of 20th century and before.. Where there was a resentment of some sort against Westerners. Surely it isn't like such now. Where it's definitely been transformed into an art as karate and a sport, where the Jutsu was lost or only a few knowing such. Stands to reason, as there are those that only desire to fight, be bad, low character who might be bent toward being better but could still retain what they were.
Unfortunately there is a lot of racism in Japan, just like anywhere else in the world. Even today they are still a very homogeneous society. And there is yet another rebirth, in some quarters, of nationalism. Respect is always earned.
Its irrelevant to judo, bjj is very small by comparison and will never be a major sport or even Olympic. On the other hand, original bjj is selfdefense orientated.
@@scarred10 Thanks for the reply!! With BJJ becoming really popular in the U.S, The sport has grown and is still growing. I’m also pretty certain a lot of high level Judoka’s are training BJJ to help with their Newaza.
Rorion Gracie said they were teaching Japanese their own style to them. Which figure, the rigors of training, vs. factory work that arose after WWII, as well as academia needed for society, many probably had skills that died with them, same with Daitoryu. Which while you is there, it'd be interesting if you could visit a Daitoryu school.😉

Prof Chadi, how did u get into Japan? I thought their borders are closed for tourists
He got a student visa somehow
Japanese plugs are the same as in US. Whenever I go to Europe I bring an adapter for the European plugs. Same with Brazil and other places...

Hey Chadi, if you're still in Osaka, maybe you can do a collab with Judo Highlights? He lives in Osaka and is willing to collab as well
Kodokan in Osaka! No more week-long self-isolation upon your arrival?
🙏🏼
Is this your first time to Japan, Chadi?
Do you pay to train there whenever you want ? I plan to visit and I need to train there
cool man thanks for sharing
did you Interview anyone of Kodokan?
Not yet
I wonder if you can find any koryu jujutsu to look at, or sumo stables?
When are you gonna be back in Japan?
Nice!!! You mean it’s not a steroid tattoo competition like bjj?
Keith Tiger Brown used to do the same. Left handed spinning hari goshi
Would love to do this with both judo and train at the same dojo the sensei I trained Japanese sword from. Would be an amazing time
Where do you stay? In the kodokan or somewhere else?
👏
I miss the Kodokan and Bunkyo-Ku so much :(
Whats your height and weight? The guys you spared look big and strong
What is there grip strength like? Can you break it?
How do you get into the kodokan?
First comment. Can you do research on Korean Kyu Ha Kim? He is in my lineage and I can’t find much info or videos on him

Transformed my uncle into a machine. Formidable into his 70's, he liked to squash my cousin and I without putting his Marlboro down. Kodokan!
@@Jeff1972-n5x Just figure the knowledge not just the ability is interesting itself, where I'd guess you guys enjoyed it too!😉

Indifferent.
