Easy question, he needed a longer breaker bar to tighten the filter, he didn't put twist marks in the outer case of the filter, this one will leak. He also never drilled the fill hole in the bottom of the filter then glue on a sight glass so you can see when the oil is low. When he got fired from every employer, he worked for he opened up his own shop so he couldn't get fired again.
Yea but in my shop we torque oil filters to spec. Hand tight is still mostly safe but you CannoT hand tighten a diesel filter unless you got Shaquille hands.
1.Pre-oil the rubber seal 2.Pre-fill the oil filter with small amount of the new oil (I don’t do this personally for my car but I know some ppl do 🤷🏽♂️ 3.Hand tighten the filter back on 4.Refill with new engine oil to the level necessary. 5.Turn engine over let it run for 5-10 mins check for leaks from oil filter underneath vehicle. 6.Turn off engine, check to see if oil level has dropped level on dipstick. If yes then top it up. 7. If all good then you’re good! 👍🏾

I always strip the head completely off the plug whenever i get a new car. That way no dummy "mechanic" takes it out to try and scam you with a blown engine once you leave. FACTORY OIL IS BETTER THAN ANYTHING YOU CAN BUY AND DOES NOT NEED CHANGED!!!! OIL CHANGES ARE A SCAM.
i had to change the oil in a 86 trans am anniversary edition. the owners said they never changed the oil since they bought it. 4 years later im twisting the drain plug in the side of the steel oil pan. it wrinkled up like a drag tire. had to lift motor up to drop pan to put new pan on.
1- He used the wrench to tighten the filter back on. You should always do them hand strength only. 2- He didn't mark the filter with the install date. 3- He didn't use the same brand/size filter that he replaced.

In my 50 years of experience as a 39 year old mechanic, he failed to change or repack the oil filter bearings and I don't see any elbow grease!! Finally, did he reset the OCM?? (oil control module)

Even when I just snug my oil filter by hand, it still requires a tool and a lot of strength to loosen it. They tighten themselves, no need to use a tool to install one

The directions on the filter box says, "tighten 3/4 turn after the gasket touches the sealing surface. Also, put some oil on the gasket, so it does not stick.
Someone debunked the oil tip. Even when wiped clean there is more than sufficient residue to stop the seal from binding and kinking. That said, old habits die hard, I still do it 😂
Dont really need a date. You should be replacing them every oil change. And before you go on saying ManUfAcTuEr RecOmMenDs 10,000 miles, no. They recommend 10K for PERFECT driving conditions which over 90% of americans dont fall under. We fall under extreme. And oil filters. Although claims to run 20K will really only last as long as the oil you have in your engine.

He used a long high torque filter tool wrench for reinstalling the oil filter instead of hand tightening. He didn't wet or soak the inside of the upside-down filter before installation. But luckily for the car owner he didn't flip the car upside down as suggested by some so called expert of YT.
I usually delete the gasket and use a nice thick bead of Jb weld helps keep leaks down for those 10,000 mile oil changes remember to do the same thing with the oil pan drain plug and crush washer as well clean install
People say you should only do them hand tight but that is a common mosconception. The oil actually makes it easier to back out, so I usually use an impact to tighten mine. I also add lock tight to the threads, add epoxy on the o-ring and then go around the edge with JB weld.

There is a recommended torque soec for oil filters. Usually in neighborhood of 15-18 ft/lbs

Forgot to use an Air Impact Wrench to make sure it was good and torqued. Jeez dude, HAND TIGHT!!
Make sure old filter gasket is not stuck to mating surface, wipe off gasket mating surface, lube filter gasket, hand tighten filter.
If you put an iron pipe on the ratchet handle you can get more torque.
I prefer to Ugga Dugga it on with my big Dewalt cordless impact!

That's not an oil change shop. Quick lube stores will use branded oil filters most of the time. That's an stp bottom shelf filter.

Always torque your oil filter to a minimum of 150 foot pounds so the next one doing the oil change can have a little fun getting it off.

Some filters require a final 1/2”-3/4” turn with a wrench after being hand tightened and always lube the o-ring
Should use a longer breaker bar when tightening the oil filter back down. Its best to keep torquing until the filter collapses and has a twists.

Failed to inspect the seat for a stuck gasket ring, failed to oil the new gasket, failed to pre-fill it and WTF was the wrench needed for tightening it!!
This is why I change my oil myself whenever I feel it needs changing.
That actually hurt watching how tight he did that. Now whenever I say ‘WHO THE FUCK PUT THIS OIL FILTER ON’ I know who it was.
285ft-lbs. Exact torque specifications a man like me needs on his oil filter. No more, no less. Good job son. 👏

Thats going to leek you need at least 450ft-lbs at least for the next tech will be so happy same as the sump plug but make sure you round of the plug it stops amateurs from doing a bad job,and don't forget to put the old crush washer back on,when you put the new spark plugs in use an high impact gun you don't want those babys flying out of the holes. Jobs a gooden.add an extra hour on the as a good tip you have earned it 👍🏻🇬🇧

He forgot to put some thread locker on🤦😂
He used a long high torque filter tool wrench for reinstalling the oil filter instead of hand tightening.
He didn't wet or soak the inside of the upside-down filter before installation.
But luckily for the car owner he didn't flip the car upside down as suggested by some so called expert of YT.
I usually delete the gasket and use a nice thick bead of Jb weld helps keep leaks down for those 10,000 mile oil changes remember to do the same thing with the oil pan drain plug and crush washer as well clean install
He put the old filter in the top of the engine .

He forgot to finish tightening it with his black and decker flashlight/screwdriver
Two things....
1.) Didn't lube the gasket
2.) Hand tighten the filter only!!

Dunno about the tech, but I'd be firing that engineer.
He isn't an engineer - he's a fitter and a poor one.
But we don't know how much pressure he applied TBF, it could be in spec and that would be unusual because most people would make it snug regardless.
He didn’t prefill it -to pre-wet it. He didn’t verify the old gasket came off.
People say you should only do them hand tight but that is a common mosconception. The oil actually makes it easier to back out, so I usually use an impact to tighten mine. I also add lock tight to the threads, add epoxy on the o-ring and then go around the edge with JB weld.
Jb weld works okay but these days you can pick up a decent welder for under $500 that works great for small jobs like this.
