      Tbh, not even those 2 were worth 60$. Considering that for neca and select you get more like a base or more accessories/ better sculpt or paint job, for half the price.

      @Jac monster venom has been reused multiple times, though. The BaF, the deluxe, riot, toxin, and I'm sure more in the future. Thanos was used for most of the Controller and likely other in the future. The Blob will only ever be used for the Blob. Plus, he is a fan channel, meaning a smaller production. Run, which means it coats more to make.
      I'm not defending the price, but there are reasons that previous deluxe figures cost less than this one, in addition to general inflation.

    Honestly to me the saddest part about this figure being a whopping $60 is that it looks like such a good base for a custom Roadhog! Still not perfect, but the simpler detailing and proportions would work a lot better than any other options I've seen for the job.
    Edit: Okay forgot that the old Blob is WAY more expensive than this, but still, not great that this is so pricey for what it is.

Highly suggest that video!

  • @PowerChordEPS
    @PowerChordEPS Год назад +26

    Firstly, to answer your question, I think the realistic proportions work for MCU characters when you're trying to match the physique of the actors and design of the costumes. For clearly comic-based characters, go for the outlandish, I.E. Blob should be huge. If we had a mix between the old BaF and this one, it'd be a hit personally.
    Also, woof, that price. I'd like to remind everyone that NECA did a TMNT cartoon Krang with the android suit a couple of years ago which looks similar to Blobby here but came with way more stuff for about half the price of this figure. How is Hasbro doing this, offering less for more? Throw in some food accessories from that Pulsecon Pudgy Pig or something to at least add SOME semblance of value here.

    • @tonileo9849

      60 dollars is pretty much import level, it def needs at the very least more accessories like 2 more heads, at least 3 pairs of hands, and some onjects like what you said, ajd even then, the figure would need some more texture compared to the relatively soft hasbro sculpt+ better paint

    • @TheMattTrakker
      @TheMattTrakker Год назад +1

      I'm sure the Marvel license is more expensive than the Gargoyles license, but yeah this seems like another instance of hasbro pricing something ~$20 higher than what they need to in order to cash in on the FOMO people before it inevitably goes on sale.
      It'd be interesting to see what the distribution contracts look like regarding the whole sale price of figures like this is and how much, if any, stores get back on stock they need to clearance.

    • @TenScaryMonkeys
      @TenScaryMonkeys Год назад +2

      While I’m sure the license is pricier, it’s certainly not $20/unit more expensive - Marvel Select produces Hulk toys of similar size and complexity for $30-35. The NECA stuff is certainly more costly per unit to produce - More parts, more assembly, more paint, more unique tooling. And both of those companies are almost surely producing smaller runs of each figure.
      The difference, as ever, is shareholders needing to see constant, rising return on investment.
      NECA, McFarlane, and DST are privately-held toy companies. They make toys and make money as a result. Hasbro is a publicly traded money-making company. Toys are just the avenue by which they do it.

    $60 dollars very unreasonable. That’s the cost of two standard Marvel Legends releases. Hell that’s roughly the same amount as two standard SH Figuarts Dragon Ball figures, Goku, Vegeta and Gohan all cost $30 bucks and you get a ton of hands, good articulation and extra heads. You can’t even argue about the size of the Blob figure because NECA does their deluxe 7 inch scale for less than $40 and they’re just as licensed as Marvel Legends and you’re getting more plastic with more accessories.

They nail Frank Miller's style to a T in terms of body shapes, faces, almost everything. Yeah, they're much more expensive than Hasbro's ML, but I don't think source accuracy is a budget thing. Maybe if ML chose a specific artist - a Jim Lee, John Romita, Jack Kirby, whoever - and tried to stick to their style as closely as possible, we'd get better and more consistent figure designs. As it is, it feels like we're getting "generic man" and "normal woman" repainted in different colors over and over.

    Hate Hasbro’s desire to make the ML comic book figures look like real ppl. It limits design and gives them an easy out to cut corners. I don’t want Alex Ross looking characters in my collection. They hit a home run with Spiral but they try and sell a lesser designed Blob for twice the price. Hasbro is just fishing for new collectors who are late to the game and want to rapidly spruce up their collections.

    I personally don't see a reason to buy comicbook figures, that don't even look like the source material. I'd rather pay extra (although now you do pay extra for Marvel Legends) to get a more stylish figure. I think, that Diamond Select, which are cheaper than most ML, are a better choice.

    Yeah his head is way too big and shoulders not broad enough. The old ones ball pegs are really the only thing that kills it. I would have liked to see more rolls and bulbous limbs etc. Someone in comments mentioned a mix of the old and new and yeah somewhere there would have been great. But for the money ya think the yellow paint would have been done right. I would still pick this up if the price was lower and then went on sale but as it is, with lots of other badass things I want, I canceled my pre order and will keep displaying my old one..which hasnt yellowed at all actually so, that is pretty cool.
