Sonny Boy Williamson 'Help Me' Blues Harmonica Jam (C Harp)

- Опубликовано: 24 июл 2021
- Help Me/ Green Onions style harmonica jam, switching between Richter tuning and Wilde Tuning (both in the key of C). I'm channeling a bit of Sonny Boy Williamson, James Cotton and Alan Wilson (with a big slice of Will Wilde thrown in of course) mixing up the old school with the new. Sonny Boy's "Help Me" was the reason I started playing harmonica.

Years ago in the sixties Sonny boy Williams played at my club, and in those days the performers mixed with the fans. He asked me to try his harmonica and I played something very rudimental but his harmonica stunk of whisky.
Quite an intoxicating experience 😅
I can't find the harmonica i bought some time ago. It was a diatonic hohner in C. Is there a more preferred one for playing blues Will ? Is that what you playing on this particular performance because that's the sound I want.
Let's get it on before it all be gone 😅
Ya i want to learn this thing but i am strangling in producing single notes
Ok... I admit it. I want to be you when I grow up. Been playing for 35 years and never heard anyone slay it better.
I picked up my first harp just before I hit the road hitchhiking around the states and canada in 1971. I knew my draft number was low and I wanted to see America before getting killed in Vietnam. I would sit and practice until I got a ride. I couldn't plat at all but I made a lot of noise. People who saw me thought they were going to get a concert only to be disappointed. The only time I made money playing harp was when a guy gave me 20 bucks if I'd stop playing. Over th he years after I got out of the army I did concert security and graduated to doing tours with the bands. I have played with some of the finest rock stars.....mostly in the tour buses and hotel rooms. I'm so thankful that I took the unconventional approach to life and avoided the 9 to 5 bullshit. Thanks to all the great musicians that put up with me in the early years and showed so much patience with my befuddled mind. I have lived a life most wouldn't believe. I'm now pushing 71 and I still love the life I lead. God Bless America and the patriots that I have encountered
I'm 66 yrs old and when in high school on my bus a friend of mine played his harmonica on the way to school and on the way home and we be in that last seat in back smoking some wakey tobaccay ha ha your awesome I keep hitting repeat
There are no words... therefore I will just shut up and listen again to this
You know, I’ve been obsessed with playing harmonica for almost 2 years now and I’ve made it a point to listen to everyone from the originators all the way to present day players and everyone in between. I am a very experienced listener of music, especially harmonica music, blues, jazz, classical, folk, I listen to it all. I say that to say this, Will is the most skilled harp player ever. I never say this about musicians because normally I feel that there’s no clear greatest player, but to my ears, Will really is the best. He does things on the harp that I’ve never heard. Namely his vibrato and breath control are just unbelievable. It’s not just those though, it’s the whole package, there isn’t a single facet of harp playing that he isn’t exceptional at. Truly a one of a kind player who I suspect will go down in history as one of the all time greats, at least he deserves to.
Thanks a lot man, much appreciated!
Experienced listener lmao get into some playing too man. It's loads of fun even at a basic level.
I agree I just couldn't bf explaining it. You did it for me. Cheers bro and cheers for the video Will
Giuseppe is correct. I've also listened to EVERYTHING. Will is the best there is and ever was. Period.
I started playing when I was 2 years old my uncle gave me a dollar crabby Hank Williams song I can learn on a harmonica and take me long 1962 after that I found Muddy Waters Sonny boy all of them the best they all taught me listen to Charlie McCoy country he plays country vocals that's fun background vocals at the same I can play right along with him too bad we can't hang out and practice I'm set up 1967 Blues Master Deluxe tube amplifier they Ben notes like you can't believe by 1 You'll Play better you can play softer easier with power you'll catch up to him just keep practicing I could tell by your attitude you got it done good luck
Should have harmonica playing in the Olympics.
WILL WILDE would take home the GOLD MEDAL for Great Britain ! ! 👌.
I'd watch that! (I'd have to root for Jason Ricci and the U.S. as a matter of principle, but it would be a hell of a show!)
@@nacoran It would be soooo awesome. Like the Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich " Drum Battle" of years past. This could be the Will Wilde and Jason Ricci Olympics Harmonica Battle.
Another thought. Will and Jason should get together for one of those harmonica duets. Like Will Wilde does with other players'. Maybe Jason Ricci does this type of thing also. I don't remember.
PS. Doesn't have to be a winner. Just an EPIC ! ! Harp battle by two of the most awesome players of our time.
Will Wilde and Jason Ricci should do a dvd like the old " Harp Attack " dvd.
I'd buy it.
Now that I'd watch
Yes the ..scrap between Will, Jason Ricci and Sugar Blue would be insane…peace
@@BuckrBill Oh yeah ! Awesome addition. Now we got 3 heavy hitters for a high octane " Harp Attack". 👌.
It's hard for me to wrap my head around what you do. I love that you pay tribute to the Old Great Ones and then take it to another level. You are getting people excited about this instrument! You will eventually be an Old Great One, but for now you will have to settle for a Young Great One. Thank you.
This is some of the best harmonica playing I've heard!!👍❤
Man, I can't even wrap my head around this kind of harmonica prowess. You're basically the Joe Bonamassa of harmonica.
I never thought I could love the harmonica more, then I heard that Wilde-tuned harmonica, it sounds amazing!
Thanks a lot James, glad you like it!
Man this guy is a great player
My new most favorite musician! What fun!!!

Sonny Boy would have been blown away by your version Will.!
You’re magical man. True blues in your heart
Favorite blues piece is this video!!
This, reminds me of what Hendrix did with All Along The Watchtower..tip of the tip top Will..
Will Wilde. I do believe SBII , would most definitely tip his hat to you for this cracking cover. And would say
" That man sure can blow ".🙏❤🇬🇧🏴
Thanks Paul!
Masterclass !!
Love it! You rip the notes from the ether and smash them through the harp like the hurricane of the apocalypse! You chew the harp up like a blue sandwich full of the raw bloody beef of the blues! If you and Sonny had played together you would have both crunched the boulders and bricks of blue skyscrapers for breakfast! You cough up and spit the sickness of our past into every blue handkerchief of the future in which everyone is healed! You tear the skyline apart like voodoo returning more than slightly at the end of time! I weep at your brilliance! Can you hear me crying? These tears of joy will never end...
Thanks very much!
Will Wilde. Your rendition of "Help Me" is so spectacular. I never tire of listening to it. 👍.

You rock son!!!
I grew up on the gulf coast of Mississippi and Louisiana. Blues is born into us brother. You definitely have soul my man!!! If you ever come across the pond to play please let me know when and where so I can come!!!
super.
I like to think that Rice Miller is sat in a beautiful blues bar in heaven having a smoke and a drink with his old blues buddies, while smiling and listening to Will play his blues harp.
Well played, Will. Loved this track. You did great. Would love to hear you play Robert Johnson's 'Love in Vain' someday.
:) that would be cool!
@@willharmonicawilde Go for it, mate. We rarely hear Robert Johnson's songs on the harp. Maybe it's because they are too hard to play on the harp in general? 'From Four Until Late' by Robert is a great song as well. I have a question. Do you think that Ronnie Shellist plays a little like Rice Miller? I hear similarities when I hear them both play.
