Nice one, Mark! You're speaking my language!! Nobody ever anywhere mentions 'contact points ramping up in stiffness' and even pressure distribution along the edge at high edge angles.... Such key things to get right on a board that is meant to turn well. Being a light weight I've become quite sensitive to this. Thanks for confirming that I'm not 'tripping'! ;-)
Love every single one of my Amplid boards. Peter pours all of himself and all that technical knowledge he has into each one (you should mention his legacy with Burton in the next reviews… even DD mentioned the PJ and the Supermodel in the vid you released the other day…) 🙌🏼
My aloha vibes has earned my respect in high and low angle in and out of bounds pow, also great while tick tack riding through bushes and tight backcountry trees.
I ride one as a daily and its the only board of the past 10 years Ive used two seasons in a row. It's stable, fast and poppy without being a total plank. The antiphase tech is no joke and works exactly as described; I never notice any vibrations or bucking at all on the board. The only downside is the mid-wide 260mm waist on the 162. 5-10 more mm's would make this an even more accomplished board. Zero regrets with this board
In the late eighties, early nineties, I had a couple of boards from Apocalypse. Loved 1 year of those boards. The company disappeared but the core was very similar to the Amplid SG.
Hi, do you have the CAPiTA Warpspeed Automobili Lamborghini in store, or is it completeley gone like everywhere else? And nice review, keep them coming
Hi Mark, Just a bit off topic. I saw your review of the Nidecker supermatics. I know you did not have them on this particular test ride but I wanted to know. would you be able to ride the Souly Grail's 260 waist with your boot size on the Supermatics and still carve without boot out? I am considering getting a pair and my board has the same waist with and size 8.5 boots. Thanks!
As much as I have to agree this board is incredible, I feel compelled to highlight to those reading the construction and longterm life of this board is very poor. I’ve ridden this board for two seasons and rode both manufactured versions. Both boards delaminated at the sheer sight of a rock. Sure I understand snowboards are not meant to be ridden on rocks, but it’s an inevitable reality for a daily driver board. First one was fixed by the wizard Lars in fernie and made it look and ride brand new, but with every epoxy fix it’s only a matter of time. It ended up delaminating along the entire heel edge. I reached out to amplid and ONLY after weeks of back and forth and coaxing did I get a small discount to buy a new board, which I did as the board is great. Only to find the next season the exact same thing to happen again at the smallest nick of a rock. The whole board just splintered essentially. It’s been downgraded to an early season rock board, we’ll see how long that lasts. For a board that retails for nearly $1,300 CAD you’d expect a little better construction out of these things, or at least some kind of warranty service you can stand behind. Better off with a jones or Korua, they’re virtually indestructible in comparison.
@@ppaulodiaz this is too funny!! In the meantime I started my own tuning business in Fernie and I just finished tuning an Amplid board half an hour ago. It was a slightly older model, and I thought to myself that it didn’t feel that well made… the memory of your board popped up, and I questioned whether that really was an Amplid. And here you are, telling the story 😅 Greetings, Lars
@@Justaride-Snowboard-Channel Ok, thats a bummer. Was thinking about buying this one 😞 Have a Morning Glory and while its not bad on piste, there are just not enough pow-days this season so i wanted to get a board for piste-runs. But durability-wise the Morning Glory now has seen 70+ days (got a season past last season and this one), has seen some rocks and many skiers on the lift running over it. I had one spot that i needed to fill after riding over several rocks that but besides that it just held up incredibly well and looks better than my salomon assasin. And the assasin got like 20 rides in 7 years.
@@QuarktaschemitSenf very hard to judge actual quality from outer damage. I'm talking about other things... wax absorption of the base, base flatness, factory edge tune, die-cut flatness, base template fitting without gaps, feel of the sidewall and topsheet..... (This list does not particularly apply to Amplid, but that's stuff I look at when getting an impression of manufacturing quality. Also: I'm anal and most of those things have zero impact on ride quality!! So if a board rides well for a person, hold on to it!! That's after all all that matters! Of the four boards in the centrifugal line, this is definitely the best daily. That being said, it's probably my least favorite of the four if you're building a quiver, but it's a tough call because all of them are great.
