R.I.P. Mr. Music.
What a talent. When you consider there was basically 1 verse, and he turned that one verse into a song of epic proportions. Incredible.
I'm well into my 70's now, and probably not much longer for this world, and as an ex-musician for most of my life I've left instructions for this to be played on the conclusion of my funeral.
Thanks for posting.
One of those songs that will live forever. Rest in peace John.
Probably my favourite song of all time, and a great influence on my own music. This is from the Night of the Proms in Europe, not to be confused with the British Night of the Proms held in London.
John Miles is a legend.
This song was composed in 1976 and became since then the anthem of music lovers in Europe.
You captured the meaning perfectly.
John was not only a great singer and pianist but also an amazing guitarist who llayes on atage with Led Zeppelin and played in Jimmy Page’s solo concerts.
He also was the musical director of Joe Cocker and Tina Turner.
He died december 2021. R.I.P. John. We all miss you.
i saw john live back in 1978 it was the first concert i went to and it was an absolute blast, love your reaction 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed this ,it is class performance,This was one of series of concerts that are held every year over 6 weeks of the summer at the Royal Albert Hall in London that are put on by BBC Radio 3 ,most of the concerts are classical music ,because it's radio 3 production is the main reason for the high quality of the concert, radio 3 only does classical music usually, he would have been accompanied by one of their full symphony orchestras , chorus and possibly choir .❤️
Night of the Proms are a series of concerts that are held across many countries on the north of Europe
46 years ago this was my school exam revision music! ❤❤
Fabulous reaction ,to a brilliant song ,with a superb guitar solo from former Wishbone Ash guitarist LaurieWisefield . Was lucky enough to meet John Miles & he was a lovely generous man .
One of the greatest songs ever written. Thank you for such a genuine reaction. Take care and best wishes from the UK.
just magnificent
I've heard that song do many times, but never listened to it til now. Such a fool I've been to hear it and ignore it. One of these days I might actually grow up, and learn to appreciated music in it's entirety, instead of shunning that which isn't from the same genre that I hold closest. I've know of Miles for decades, but not once taken the time to hear him. Even though an album cover leapt out at me, It had a very pretty painted Concorde on it. Yet again, having a full on orchestra has added to the emotional hit that comes with modern pop music.
Tell you what, that Concorde cover almost sold the album to me for a very long time. But each time the money was there, the motivation to buy something else was there too.
Catch you later. TTFN
Great reaction thank you Randi
Just a quick anecdote for you..
When I was about 14 Years old I only really listened to the latest chart hits on the radio, and the old Vinyl recored or cassette my Parents bought.
This song never really got played on mainstream radio due to the length of it.
For my 14th Birthday I received a little transistor radio which I secretly placed under my pillow when I went to bed, around 9pm I would always tune in to the local radio station, where the DJ could play whatever music he liked.
The studio version of this song came on and I will always remember the 1st time I heard it, and being absolutely blown away! Loved the simple lyrics but mostly the way it builds with the string arrangement, very emotional as you suggest.
I had never heard anything like it before and I begged my Parents to buy it for me.
I never tire if listening to it to this day, and my 2 grown up Daughters and my Wife also love it too.
I think we can all identify with the radio under the pillow. For years I'd 'rock myself' to sleep with music softly coming from beneath my head. It worked out better when I could play tapes though. When the tape ran out, the machine would switch off, thus saving many batteries... LOL
@Graham Nash good call Graham, used to hate it when the ribbon got twisted up though, and had to rewind it with a pencil 🤣
@@johnwoodberry3707 Hahaha.... Yeah, me too.
Love this song since childhood. And funny story, the DJ of me favorite Cub and me used it to prank young couples on the dancefloor. They were always a liitle confused. Great reaction from you!
When you were talking about the beat feeling a little off, I think you were talking about the first faster part? Where the guitar solo is. This is because the timing is 7/4 (ie 7 beats to the bar) unlike the rest which is in 4/4. I must also say that 7/4 is not a usual time signature.
Those times with audience handing up real lighters in the air !. So weird in 2024 😉.
When a 5 yrs old kid ask you = What is MUSIC ?
Or maybe something like = How to separate good music from bad music ?
YOU HAVE TO tell the boy = PLEASE boy o please kid go to listen the song called MUSIC by JOHN MILES.
Lyrics:
Music was my first love
And it will be my last
Music of the future
And music of the past
To live without my music
Would be impossible to do
In this world of troubles
My music pulls me through
Music was my first love
And it will be my last
Music of the future
And music of the past
And music of the past
And music of the past
Music was my first love
And it will be my last
Music of the future
And music of the past
To live without my music
Would be impossible to do
'Cause in this world of troubles
My music pulls me through

why John miles was never a super star in the mould of Elton John Billy Joel bruce springstein is a complete mystery
"sounds a bit off" also called 7/8th :)
A terrible place to pause? It is pretty much the worst place to pause, that is actually the place where you have to crank it up as much as your machine is capeable to output and close your eyes, lean back and simply enjoy.
