Johanna; I have Derwent pencils, full set, Derwent Inktence pencils, full set, Caren de'ache Neo-ll's, full set and finally Tombow watercolor brush markers, full set. I went to Amazon USA & purchased 5 of your books. I love that you've provided videos for us. I'd like to learn how to use all my mediums in your coloring books. Today's my first look at your videos. Hoping you might link me up to your vids to learn to use my products in your books. They are gorgeous. Love your Scottish accent. The maternal side of my heritage is Scotland. My Grandma spoke all things Scottish w/o the accent. Love to visit your country.
Thank you so much, Johanna! I’m new to colouring books for adults and this video is very useful for me. I’m going to start this inspiring hobby in these days and will purchase your books, which are the best on the market! I’ll also buy Faber Castell Polychromos and will try different blending methods. Again, thank you for your precious support ❤ greetings from Italy 👍🏼👋🏻
Hi Johanna, haven’t seen these blending pens before, must get some, I belong to a small group of Ladies who get together every Friday at our local Library,we have a lot of fun, with our colouring,we all have your books which inspire us with ideas.Thankyou for sharing stay safe, and well.🇳🇿
I've just had a go at this and found that the only one you can add more colour to afterwards is the baby oil, and slightly over The blender pencil if not burnished too hard before. It really is worth trying the different methods to see what's best for you. Thanks Johanna.x
Hello from Reno, Nevada :-) I absolutely love your videos!! This one was fantastic because I could definitely use tips on blending!! I love that you do the replay of your Live on RUclips because I usually don't spend much time at all on Facebook. I prefer to watch RUclips videos :-) Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful talent with us!!!!
Johanna, thank you so much for this. I've only just started coloring (therapy!) and your videos are SOOO helpful. And you've such a delightful & down-to-earth personality and presentation style. I'm looking forward to watching and learning more from your channel.
Thank you for this!! Colored pencils are definitely my favorite medium to work with. I’ve tried alcohol pens, but I feel like I have more control with pencils.
Hi Joanna I got my drawing book 😂your book how to draw love it am going to get your Your diary 2023 colouring book my be next months I love your Chanel xx thankyou Wendy xx 😊
I like colorless alcohol brush markers, which work about the same as the Derwent pens, but with the benefit of the brush, plus I think they're juicier. I bought a couple of Ohuhu alcohol marker sets and each come with a colorless blender. I'm not that keen on using the blenders with the other markers because they lift the marker, rather than blend, but I love them for blending colored pencil. The brush is fantastic for control in blending. The pen does discolor, but it's okay as long as you scribble any residual pigment off. You can also get the colorless blenders with a bullet tip for tiny spaces. I bought the Ohuhu pastel marker set and don't like a few of the pen colors...but have found they work nicely for blending with slight color adjustment. It's fun to find creative uses for art supplies you think you can't ake use of.
Hello from Colorado! Thanks so much for this, very helpful and your presentation is just wonderful. You're so down to earth and fun which makes it easy to follow along. I'm a total beginner to coloring books, but I'm slowly working my way through your videos and the Inky Art School. I am learning so much, but the actual application will take more time. LOL! I see so many beautiful colorings on Instagram and I hope that one day I'll be able to create something as stunning.
Hi just came across you on RUclips. Great to see various blending. I would love if you could go through various art supplies for those of us starting out. I have drawn since I was a child. Crayons paint, later drawing in lead pencil. A bit of watercolour and pastel. There is a lot about art equipment I don't know. Love tips and ideas. Love your enchanted forest book. 💖 💖 💖
Hey Johanna! First vid of yours that ever came up on my recommendations! Funny I just walked in the door and was at the local art store and got "Lost Ocean" for 10 Canadian bucks! So happy!
Hello from Seattle! LOVE your science classes. Great fun. / Re: Blending - I tend to use lighter colors for blending. Typically I blend 2 or 3 colors at a time. So often have a lighter color on hand, that’s already worked it’s way onto a picture. Lastly, I try to keep track of best color combos, by manufacturer. TY Ms Johanna! - 🐶🤓
I use isopropanol (aka isopropyl alcohol) to blend with. I find it less issue than, odourless mineral spirit, methylated spirit, baby oil, glycerine, or zest it. It dries really fast and keeps the colour nice and bright. I also use the Caran cache blending sticks to blend with if I can’t be bothered getting out a bottle or pot of envy thing else.
Hi Johanna I had just found you channel... I love your books and have many of them.. I use Sansodor by Windsor and Newton or a white pencil. I must say I like the look of the blender pens..thank you 😊
I personally, prefer to just use my pencils to blend... I do have the Caran d’Ache blender and honestly if or when I need a little extra help, prefer it over the Prisma blender pencil any day...really really don’t like the Prisma ones (which means I need to find a “home” for the one unused one I have, as well as the one that only maybe 2” is gone from!). The other thing that I have been playing around with is sometimes using simple rubbing alcohol with a small paint brush ...need to work with it more, but so far like the result for those times when I don’t want to use a ton of layers.
Yeah, I have the same one and I like it too! I'm from Brasil, so if I coul buy it, it's definitely affordable in the US and Europe hahaha (since here things cost five times as much!)
Hi Johanna. I got the Zest on Amazon and it was very reasonable in price. Thanks for telling about it. It comes to us here in the US from Jackson’s art. See you tomorrow. I don’t have social media so I watch RUclips. 🦋🦋🦋
Thank you for this video! I would love to see you try this with wax based pencils like Prismas, I think wax based are more common in the coloring community and results might be a little different! I also think blending with a white Prisma instead of Polychromos would be drastically different because of their opacities. Do any of the blending solutions you used cause the color to bleed through the paper?
Not sure what's going wrong, but as soon as I get the notification "live tutorial" , I click, but the live part must have just ended and I'm first to view the video (and comment/like...). Frustrating. When I click on other live notifications, it works just fine. Probably a question for you tube support. Anyone else have this problem?
I believe she is actually doing the Live portion on Facebook and then the RUclips is actually the playback for the Live so we won't see the actual chat on RUclips because the Live chat is actually on Facebook. Hope that helps

I mainly use baby oil. I put a bit in a small jar with cotton balls and just dip the blending stump.

Thanks for your tutorial. In Puerto Rico is very difficult to find the materials. Had a nice day.

Best blending tutorial. Hoping you do more. Brilliant.
You could read the phone book and I’d be captivated the entire time….I’m American and you know how we love accents.
I liked the baby oil and the blending pencil the best

Totally agree
Wow. Very interesting and helpful. Warm regards from Michigan USA.

It’s ok to be 🤓 geeky.
Loved the tutorial
I use all of these except the baby oil, which I find makes a mess. I also use a very light version of the same colour instead of white.

thank you Johanna. Very good presentation.
Prismacolor blending pencils are my favorites but I’d love to try the pens. Those look cool!
I always wanted to try the blender pens but they seemed so fussy. After seeing you use them- it looks super easy. Will definitely give them a try!
I use odourless mineral spirit, blending pencil, blending marker or petroleum gelly for a very small area on the tip of my pencil.
I like the finish of zest it. I'm going to get the pot. Thank you x

Thank you so much for sharing this! I appreciate it.
Thanks for the video
Thanks so much you have sold me on the blending pen! I appreciate your time doing this test.
Great tutorial... thank you. I’m just wondering how much ‘life’ you get out of a pen before you need to replace it with a fresh one?
Love The Zest it result 👌🏼❣️
Thank you so much great information
Thank you for sharing. Great information.
Your videos are always interesting. ❤️ I can see how it inspires people to paint. ❤️ 👌😍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It's so relaxing , love it 💜
Thank you for sharing Johanna. If you have a lot of large tip blenders can you not swap the nibs once the small one has run out x
Wow! Thank you for this!))

I like to blend with the Caran dache blender pencil
Yes, I like it more than the prisma blender. It's a whole stick of wax!
Yeah, I have the same one and I like it too! I'm from Brasil, so if I coul buy it, it's definitely affordable in the US and Europe hahaha (since here things cost five times as much!)
Great! I need help with my blending!
I loved this video
thank you. This help a lot.
Thank you for this demonstration!
Very helpful...
💛TR
I’ve found the solvents work only on my wax pencils ams not my oil pencils.
hello from Arizona!
If you just need a light blending you can just use a dry q-tip almost like a dry stump when blending pencil or charcoal
Does blending stump can be use with baby oil?

Odorless Mineral Spirits is what we use in the USA.
Can you use zest it on fabric?
¿los ergosoft de steadtler sirven para estas mezclas Johanna?

That’s good, but faber castell is oil based. Nonetheless, you did a great job
Thank you for telling people that breathing in the chemicals are not healthy for them.

Just me thinking blending pencils actually do not do anything, I have the caran d'ache one, but no difference whatsoever
