    Breathe deep the gathering gloom,
    Watch lights fade from every room.
    Bedsitter people look back and lament
    Another day's useless energy is spent.
    Impassioned lovers wrestle as one;
    Lonely man cries for love and has none;
    New mother picks up and suckles her son;
    Senior citizens wish they were young.
    Cold-hearted orb that rules the night
    Removes the colours from our sight,
    Red is grey is yellow white
    But we decide which is right
    And which is an illusion
    WONDERFUL MIKE!

    It's ridiculous that they couldn't use the actual live music and had to lip sync . I would have liked it better even if the sound quality wasn't as good. They were clearly more of a studio band than live, especially with the technical issues Mike Pinder frequently had with his mellotron.
    He customized it to the point that I believe he would be the only one who could tune it.

    • @pereraddison932
      @pereraddison932 2 года назад +5

      ... Mike Pinder had so much trouble with that early tape driven sound FX machine. And being employed at the electrical engineering firm where the M'tron was made, he had direct access and was able to practically update and completely mofify the whole thing. Envisioning a portable, one man orchestra, he switched out the hot glowing energy consuming valves, replacing them with cooler, more modern and reliable transistors. He not only re-jigged the tapes from sound FX to musical instruments such as strings and horns, he also replacing the fluctuating AC transformers with 24 volt DC drivers, that took the Mellowtron from being a valve driven analogue machine, and inventing the very first solid state pseudo digital synthesiser. This inspired Graham Edge to do likewise, and, in conjunction with a university professor, they came up with the very 1st electronic drum kit ...

      Studios often weren't designed with live music in mind, and the acoustics were simply not up to snuff for live performances. it took them a while to lick that, and to improve the in-studio microphones to the point where live performances could do the artists justice.

      I know, then what does the interviewer do? He goes back to speaking in French again to Mike. I like when he tries to clarify the frenchman's question looking confused with him and says, with six songs, six parts? why six parts?
      Because we couldn't do any more parts to the day. If we did we have to include things like going to the toilet!". LMAO!
      Can you imagine if they did have a song about the going to the bathroom part of the day?
      Perhaps Ray Thomas could have composed the song that would've been a prequel to "floating" from to our children's children's children It could go with something like, " floating, turds in the bowl , 60 of them, I pooped them all!,

    Yes, they suddenly turned on the music....and they mimic their own song.... even the Beatles had to mimic their songs to the studio music played in the background.
    It is still them and you get view of what look like, however, these are real musicians and they may have felt frustrated to not play live...most people didn't notice and the program hiring them may have made it easier for everybody....and the quality of the sound is guaranteed....no chance of mistakes.
    and the band wins because it is promotion for them.
