Hello! My name is Arturo, and I was born in Mexico City. I lived in Tijuana for 20 years, and now I split my time between Tijuana and Mexico City. Your video really resonated with me because I’ve had a similar journey of understanding and contrasting life in Mexico and the United States. When I lived in Tijuana, I had the opportunity to get to know the U.S. more closely through work and social relationships. At first, like many people, I had this idealized image of the U.S. as a nearly perfect country where everyone was respectful, kind, and where authorities, especially immigration officers at the border, were always professional and polite. However, over time, I realized that this image was more based on my own beliefs than on reality. Through personal experiences, I noticed that some immigration officers could be rude and unprofessional, that many people living in the U.S. were unhappy or even depressed, and that life there wasn’t as perfect as I once thought. Just like anywhere else, the U.S. has its flaws and challenges. What struck me the most was realizing how many people in the U.S. who don’t know Mexico have a very negative and mistaken idea of what this country is like. I understand now that this is often due to their beliefs rather than their actual experiences. From my perspective, having lived in both places, I’ve noticed that people in the U.S. often seem lonelier and more isolated compared to people in Mexico, even when living independently. I’ve found Mexicans to be warmer and more welcoming in their interactions, and there’s a stronger sense of solidarity among people here, even in the face of challenges. While I enjoy visiting the U.S., I definitely prefer living in Mexico. It’s a great country with kind, noble, and friendly people. Thank you for sharing your positive experiences living in Mexico and for helping to break down the stereotypes and misconceptions that so many people have. It’s always refreshing to hear stories like yours that highlight the beauty and warmth of this country. Best regards, Arturo
@@arturod3f3 thanks for this! we are fed so much propaganda in us about other countries. it is always a shock to discover the extent to which we have been deceived-this video is a perfect example! i live in az and have never been to mexico which i now realize is just sad.
I'm Mexican, I lived in Mexico until I was seven and then moved to Canada, in a border city. After applying for an American visa multiple times, my mother and I finally received it when I was a teen. We then started visiting the US and I had the most awful border crossing experiences with the US border agents. We were almost always stopped, searched, questioned, harassed, accused, etc. All of this because we were crossing with a Mexican passport and American visa. The moment I became a Canadian citizen and crossed the border with a Canadian passport I was no longer stopped and harassed. This made me realize that there's a negative sentiment towards us in the US. The reason I crossed a lot was because I married an American man and eventually moved to the US. I have always wanted to move back to Mexico. I visit often and realize that the quality of life and commodities is better or on par with the US and Canada. I just need to convince hubby lol Saludos!
I grew up in Nebraska worked in call centers. I visited México a lot. Always checked out the retire in México you tube videos. Yours is excellent. At 62 I met my now Mexican wife online and retired in Mexico City. I love how convenient everything is. Can walk to doctors church clothes shopping. Just everything. Had to drive in Omaha. Love how you talk about how people are taught comportamento. All people are acknowledged and respected. I plan to check out more of your videos. From my perspective you really know México.

I have to add that people in the south of Mexico is super calm, polite and patient. For example, Campeche and Merida are the safest places in Mexico, but it is due to the people, since we don’t like troubles and we tend to respect as we were thought. If you don’t cause any trouble, you can live there without any further problem.

14:57 🥹 I couldn't found the emoji that could express the feeling I have right now, I am Mexican and I've been living in United States for many years. The new president of United States says we immigrants are the problem 😢, and the most people believe everything he says, however I believe everybody deserve to decide where to go and found a better place for you and your family❤ I am glad you found your place May God bless you all! ❤❤ My husband is Mexican-American this video is helping me so much in many ways to come back to live in Mexico. I really appreciate your kind words.
"Most people" do NOT believe anything that Trump says; it is only 47% of U.S. citizens that believe PART of what he says - I (and all of my friends) believe NOTHING that Trump says, do not agree with 99% of what he wants to do, and despise the way that he is causing the United States to degrade and become the laughingstock of the world. Trump thrives on division and hatred.. which is why I am moving to Mexico! I align far more with the values of your country than I do with those of my birth country (the U.S.)
America is the name given to the new world by a German cartographer Martin Waldseemuller to honor Amerigo Vespucci in 1507. It was therefore named America in his honor, because he realized that Columbus was wrong and this new world was not the Indies as he wrongly assumed. Since Amerigo mainly traveled around the Amazon basin it was suggested that the country of Brazil would be named America but then this was changed to include South America and finally this name was given to include the entire new world both N. and S. America, so we are all Americans! It’s ironic that the last country to be settled by Europeans is now by their own design called America! Now Trump wants to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America! What would the Italians, French or Germans say if England decided to call itself the common European state and only its citizens were the ones commonly referred to as Europeans!
The problem: In the English speaking world, there are 7 continents. There are only 5 continents. Even a call to the U.S. Geographical Society will confirm that. Thus, AMERICA is the name of the New World. North America, Central America and South America ARE SUB-CONTINENTS. Europe and Asia ARE EURASIA. The 5 Olympic Rings are also a visual aid for the 5 Continents. Each Olympic ring represents a Continent. Further, the United States of AMERICA received that name OVER ONE HUNDRED YEARS AFTER THE CONTINENT WAS NAMED AMERICA. In mainland Europe, e.g., the country that is called America in this video is called Etat Unis (France), Estados Unidos (Spain), etc. Thus, all people born in the New World ARE AMERICANS. Not just us in the United States.
As a mexican- american, don't waste your time trying to educate "americans". You won't never change the "american" mind. Live happy and go with the ignorant flow.
So, you go to Costa Rica and when people call themselves "ticos" you tell them, "No! You are not tico, you are costarrisence, you ignorant fool!"? Just accept that in a conversation when an american is included, there will be an ambiguity regarding America and americans due tu cultural factors and acknowledge that by being explicit about when you refer to the continent or the country. Easy as pie.
Totally agree with your assessment! The US has changed a lot over the years. I think many Americans are confused about "what was" and the way it is now. I've lived in a lot of different countries and feel like an outsider looking in, even though I'm an American citizen and lived here for the first 30 years of my life. I'm 64 and plan to move abroad in 2 years. I'm fortunate I can afford to go elsewhere but I feel sorry for younger generations who want to buy a home, raise a family and build a career in America.
@@LuisVazquez-oi5hvLook, I have Mexican parents and I'm well aware of the whole "America is a continent" thing. And while I agree we should find a better name for ourselves as a country in English "America" and "American" do mean "Estados Unidos" and "Estadosunidense". And if the founding father's intent was to sound arrogant naming the country the same as the continent I can tell you no one says "I'm an American" with such arrogance. And the people who do that are from the countryside where they feel national pride is the community of people and not necessarily the government. I'm an American from America". Otra vez me disculpo por mi gramática.

I am a retired Mexican living on my government pension which is approximately $1,700 US Dollars. I am 71 years old. My wife and one of my daughters are my dependents. I have a mortgage that pays for its self by renting out rooms to college students. Another blessing is that we have been stacking Bitcoin for the past two years, and will hodl it for at least six more years. I am a retired software engineer. I was born in Tijuana and border crossed to school in San Diego County as a foreign student at a private school up to fourth grade. Luckily I was able to attend a community college and was able to study computer programming. I later transferred to San Diego State but had to drop out as my parents were not able to keep my foreign tuition. But what I learned was enough to lunch my career as a software developer in 1980. I retired in 2019. I am living in Mexico City since 1987 in the Coyoacán area.

Hi! I watched many of your videos even before we landed in MX in October, and really appreciate your honesty and content. My husband and I moved to the Yucatan in October when I retired. We live in Chelem. We really like that it is near the beach but also 20-30 minutes I can be in Merida with the beautiful malls (been to 4 so far) and other shopping. It's not even that I shop that much anymore now that I'm 60, but it is really nice to know that if you need something or you want some clothing or shoes you don't have to just order online. So far we really like it here, there have been some things we are majorly missing food-wise, but now that we have our Costco card we're hoping that that won't be as big of an issue, they have almost everything we need. Living here is definitely different, I don't speak Spanish but I'm very good with my translator I hope to get better and actually speaking it as time goes on. People are extremely friendly, not used to that in the US. I also totally agree it's crazy how people just ask you immediately in the US where you work what do you do... It's actually very rude. Everyone is very judgy in the US. Even if we did decide at some point to move back to the US, I think we would make a U-turn after I go into one grocery store and get sticker shock!... And also go back to paying the high taxes, high insurance, high healthcare, etc etc😊 you only live once...I can't see us ever going back to the US especially now with this crazy new president!
I'm very curious, I've heard talk about major political instability in the area, multiple assassinations of local officials. Do you know much about that? Is it something the local expat community or the locals talk about openly?
Lovely Lady, I want to thak you because this kind of reflextions alouds me to have a objective and honest point of reference to compare and to understand how my country , México, has been evolving over the last 20 or 30 years. I love your perspective and approach to your new lifestyle in our beloved Mexico, bienvenida y que Viva México, we're quicky becoming the BEST country in the world.
This was very insightful, videos like these keep popping up on my feed. Me, my wife and 2 toddlers just got our Mexican citizenship and are now dual citizens and have been contemplating for over a year now if moving to Mexico would be the right move for us, we have family in 2 states in Mexico so getting started wouldn’t be to difficult and we travel to Mexico regularly. We don’t have any debts here in the states other than a car payment. Seeing videos like this makes me wonder if we should just go ahead and make the move, our only worry right now is what’s going to happen with an influx of the people being deported back and what exactly it’s going to do to the living style and economy, wish you the best and thank you for sharing this very informational video and I agree with the comments that people with your attitude towards Mexico will always be accepted
Thank you for shedding some lights to fellow Americans about this country of us (you included obviously). I've had the chance to visit three countries only, but talk to many foreigners due to my job and I know for sure Mexico is nowadays the true land of freedom ❤ It has been hard, I remember my grandma and my mother struggling so much to make a honest living but it's been worth it Unluckily some really ignorant people from my country talk and talk in a bad way to foreigners (in the end there is good and bad everywhere always) but please know you are respected and welcomed in Mexico anytime ❤️

Awesome!!! Agree 100%. Good for you and many blessings!!! I too bought a house in Mexico and am planning early retirement there, targeting age 58 to be there 100%, I'm 56 right now. I noticed the same things you are talking about in this video. Your points became a reality for me when I started living 75% of each year in Mexico from 2015 to 2019 doing remote work. I am now married to a beautiful Mexican wife and looking forward to a bright future in Mexico! I bought me a 40-foot fishing boat and started a Charter fishing business and have more business adventures in plan!!!! Thanks be to the Creator!!!
I live 4 months out of the year overseas and will make the permanent move out of America soon once I am eligible for my pension. I notice a large percentage of Americans get offended or insulted when I tell them I am leaving. I never take it personal. These people bought the American Dream and heavily invested in it (career, marriage, kids, home debt, loans, etc). They tend to be unhappily stressed and stuck in America. You going abroad shows them there were other options and forces them to self reflect on their own lives.

we have lived in Tijuana which supposedly is the most dangerous place and yet we totally agree with everything that you are saying about the US versus Mexico while yes it takes time to adapt to the differences here overall it is so much better then when we lived in the US, thank you so much for your video
I really enjoyed your video. I've always felt that Mexico is a wonderful place to live! You are 100% correct about America! We are retiring soon and will be spending a lot of our time in Mexico. Hopefully, we will move there one day!
I was tolerating America until this past month. I always believed that good people would be able to keep America a free and safe place to live. Unfortunately that is no longer the reality of America.
What a blessing enjoying a country where you were not born in and not being bulled or harassed only because of your skin color or just for trying to get a better life; by police officers or citizens as well!!
You need to do a follow up on that McDonald’s coffee story. I was a regional Manager for a large restaurant corporation, so it was important that I saw the court transcripts. It was NOT a frivolous lawsuit as the media made it to be.
As a Mexican, I have to say that It's nice to have non-entitled people not only from the USA, but from all the world in the country. Thanks for being a good neighbor.
An element that is never factored in these analysis made by Americans, is happiness. This is an absolute part of mexicans lives, even regardless of the country we live in. Persons of all ages, of all economic levels of society are the same. This cannot be measured and is part of who we are. I read once something funny about Hispanics living in the USA. 1. Which race group is the least educated: Hispanics. 2. Which race group has the lowest income ?, Hispanics . 3. Which one is the happiest? Yes, Hispanics.
Thank you for your feedback, I agree, I see people laughing and smiling everyday here in Mexico. I have put that in other videos, I’ll make a point of it in the next one.
You are so right, I noticed that the first time I visited Sonora. People singing and dancing while selling their merchandise, I even saw a man adorning his burro with fresh flowers😄their happiness was contagious😻
Ive been to 60 countries. I wouldnt even put Mexico in my top 5 for happiness (probably because of the proximity and influence of America). Philippines, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica would be my top 3
I applaud you for making a great honest video of Mexico and the warmth of the Mexican indigenous people. Mexico has been for the most part viewed negatively by the US media and of course Hollywood, however, many US actors who knew better would escape to Mexico to relax and enjoyed themselves - John Wayne, Gary Cooper, John Houston his son John Jr., director John Ford and many more. On another note, I discovered that many Americans can live on their Social Security check rather than struggling back in the states. Many living in their cars or on the streets can do the same with that small pension or SSI. Again a great video keep up the great work!
Hello! First, I want to say that I really enjoyed your content-it’s informative and does a great job highlighting the beauty of Mexico. As someone with dual citizenship (Mexico and the U.S.), I have a deep love for my birth country, though I currently live in the States. I have a genuine question, and I hope it doesn’t come across as condescending: What are your political beliefs regarding the current state of affairs in the U.S.? I ask because the answer could help clarify whether your videos are truly debunking myths and misinformation about Mexico, or if they might be tailored to appeal to a specific audience, an invite in a way that could unintentionally exploit Mexico. Honesty is important, and I appreciate your transparency. Thanks for your time!
As I stated at the beginning of the video, the opinions are mine, they are observations, as impartial as anyone’s can be. Not sure what more I can say.
What you do for a living is an important fact about how you spend a huge portion of your time, and says a lot about what set of skills you prefer or are adept at. Your dreams or aspirations about what you would prefer to be employed at is also interesting, maybe, but not yet real. If you are ashamed of how you earn a living, or offended by being asked, that’s a valuable insight, too. Too many pretending to be someone they’re not.
Thank you for your feedback. As a retired person, I can attest to the fact that my job was not me. You may feel differently after retiring, I’m up for staying tuned.

We are a little bit loud but because we are happier than others , it is fun and we are alive. I used to live in a condo building and that was sn authentic graveyard , depressing , neighbors hate any kind of noise , living in a big city that impossible to avoid . In this condo area , trust me , the don’t like kids , the plague. And people dying through the windows on you and others just to complain for silly things . I know this because my place was close from work , and I have to live there for 25 years , during this period of time neighbors change , couples with kids, university students and some are from different nationalities , then the condos turns in to a very happy place , the good morning a or good evening are all over the place , people help each other .
Living in the best places of Mexico has always been very atractive for almost anyone in the whole world! but specially now with this whole new very bad US situation! with this new very bad US Government! with it's very bad new economic ideas! which now have also made Mexico even more atractive than ever!

I agree with you Susan that America is no longer the "land of opportunity." The "American Experiment" is at a very challenging juncture. There is too much division among the people. And our current government is only going to make it worse. Tony and I are looking forward to spending extended periods of time in Mexico in the coming year and hope that what you say is true. I would add that we just returned from 3 weeks in South America and the people were so lovely. It was very refreshing. It sounds like the same is true in Mexico. Thanks again for another informative video.

It’s funny how we think we live in the center of the universe, till we get out a little and realize that there are so many other places just as good or better. That happened to me when I went to Mexico. I realized I had been lied to about the US being the best. I fell in love with Mexico and its very polite people, good food, amazing architecture and culture and color. The country is SO colorful. Que Viva Mexico!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Nice video Susan, I enjoyed it. Just want to point out that America is a continent divided in three sections North, Central, and South and it's made up of 35 countries, all of us who live in the American continent are in fact Americans. When people ask me where I'm from I reply "I'm from the United States". Can you imagine a Frenchman, an Italian, a German, and a Spaniard in the same room, and one of them tells the others "Hi, I'm from Europe" Imagine the look on the other guys faces. Enjoy your stay in Mexico.
@@goingwalkaboutnow That's a good question, maybe someone ought to show him a map of the American continent, and just because he's the president doesn't mean he knows any better as we can obviously and clearly see today.
Every time I heard the phrase "America, the land of freedom," I found it conflicting. Whenever I crossed into the States, I was always afraid of breaking a rule or getting sued. Everything seemed so controlled. While having laws and regulations is good, living in fear every day takes away that sense of freedom.
@goingwalkaboutnow I am Mexicana , lived in the USA for 11years, I studied in California, lived in Marin county (tiburón),and I always found very sad that people on first meeting you ask what do you do for living? Now I Live in Mallorca (Deia) and I am really Considering go back to México.
The only bad side of all this is gentrification. Too many Americans (and people from other countries) are coming affecting rent and sales prices for homes and other services for locals👎 😳 😟😣😠

So many reasons to leave the US. Mexico was on our list of places to retire to. We are on our way to Albania for many of the same reasons you chose Mexico. We also want to visit Europe. The low cost flights or even simply driving to other countries is one thing we are looking forward to. The American dream is dead.

Best regards,
Arturo

I just need to convince hubby lol
Saludos!

Very articulate comment 👏👏👏
I grew up in Nebraska worked in call centers. I visited México a lot. Always checked out the retire in México you tube videos. Yours is excellent. At 62 I met my now Mexican wife online and retired in Mexico City. I love how convenient everything is. Can walk to doctors church clothes shopping. Just everything. Had to drive in Omaha. Love how you talk about how people are taught comportamento. All people are acknowledged and respected. I plan to check out more of your videos. From my perspective you really know México.
Thank you for the feedback and thoughtful comment.
Excellent information. Please remember that " America" is our continent with many countries. The United States is not America. Thank you.

I have to add that people in the south of Mexico is super calm, polite and patient. For example, Campeche and Merida are the safest places in Mexico, but it is due to the people, since we don’t like troubles and we tend to respect as we were thought. If you don’t cause any trouble, you can live there without any further problem.

@goingwalkaboutnow Durongo? You mean Durango Mexico? Really? I'm from Durango.
@ Sorry for mis spelling Durango. Do you like it? What’s the best thing about it?
Exactly this!
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing. I agree with you, I feel for younger generations.
You don't realize that you are part of the problem then... why do not stay in your country to fight and help your youth!!!?
American. ?? Estadounidenses
Where was the place you loved to first after you moved out of the US?

This is an absolute part of mexicans lives, even regardless of the country we live in. Persons of all ages, of all economic levels of society are the same. This cannot be measured and is part of who we are.

Yes, Hispanics.

You nailed it! All we do here is work, work and work. We’re definitely considering to return to our roots!

We have 2 generations of children (some with mild disablities) and are seriously considering relocating abroad-where to, is beyond me. We are financially able to retire and relocate but need to find location that meets the criteria of having medical specialists for a number of conditions; a country that isn’t frigid cold like norway or canada. A country that understands english as we are not bilingual, and one that will (hopefully) not be severely impacted by future climate change. Not sure if anything like this exists.
Thanks again-we will continue watching

We as mexicans we don’t even know where to by guns in Mexico, I had never heart before that in the military basis you can after hard exams
Thank you for your feedback, that is consistent with my research.
Living in the best places of Mexico has always been very atractive for almost anyone in the whole world! but specially now with this whole new very bad US situation! with this new very bad US Government! with it's very bad new economic ideas! which now have also made Mexico even more atractive than ever!
Thank you for sharing, you are correct.
The weather is much more benign in Mexico than in the US
Congratolations!!! Thanks, You just discribe what México really is, un these moment of the time.
Thanks for your feedback.

Thank you for sharing. You won’t be disappointed while visiting here.

In Mexico ,every day es un dia de fiesta 🎉🎉🎉
Mexico teaches respects and morals .

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I’m confused, so why does the president address us as his fellow Americans?
@@goingwalkaboutnow That's a good question, maybe someone ought to show him a map of the American continent, and just because he's the president doesn't mean he knows any better as we can obviously and clearly see today.
I've been here 22 years, northwest of Mexico City (north of Toluca). I'll never go back, not even for a visit.
That is really interesting. I'm curious to know why you say you wouldn't ever go back (to the US), not even for a visit??
Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting video.

Every time I heard the phrase "America, the land of freedom," I found it conflicting. Whenever I crossed into the States, I was always afraid of breaking a rule or getting sued. Everything seemed so controlled. While having laws and regulations is good, living in fear every day takes away that sense of freedom.
Nicely said, many people feel this way. Thanks for sharing.
ALL ARE WELCOME TO MEXICO 😄🇲🇽 ❤️❤️❤️

In health care we (mexicans) we don’t have to pay thousands for hospitals bc many things are even free and most things are affordable
Thanks for backing up the info, that’s what we haven’t bought yet experienced.
Thanks
Interesting vídeo 😊

The only bad side of all this is gentrification. Too many Americans (and people from other countries) are coming affecting rent and sales prices for homes and other services for locals👎 😳 😟😣😠
I’ve also seen many Mexicans from bigger cities or those who lived abroad investing while visiting Yucatan.

Absolutely agree with you
Thanks for the feedback.
So many reasons to leave the US. Mexico was on our list of places to retire to. We are on our way to Albania for many of the same reasons you chose Mexico. We also want to visit Europe. The low cost flights or even simply driving to other countries is one thing we are looking forward to.
The American dream is dead.
Thank you for the feedback. Check out some of my European videos, transportation is key over there, the trains are wonderful.
Impressive, I liked your video.
