My favourite all-round Pink Floyd album. A masterpiece of the hauntingly weird, and a showcase for what Pink Floyd was becoming. Songs like Fearless, and Echoes are timeless.
You can’t beat “Pipers at the gates of dawn” though Some of Floyd’s best work was the stuff Sid wrote and if he has not blown he head out on Acid the band would have been a completely different to what it went on to be.
Piper at the Gates of Dawn was interesting, but far from their best work. It showed the bands potential, and penchant for oddity. However, it's also a bit of a mess, and lacked the polish/cohesion of later works like Meddle.

I knew Guy Pratt from Icehouse and from playing with Pink Floyd, and I was sure that Nick wouldn't bother to do this at all unless he was absolutely confident he had musicians which could do justice to the early material of Floyd.
