    A 0.3 mm nozzle is actually about 42 percent smaller than a 0.4 mm nozzle. Gotta figure area of the orific. Great video here very informative!

    Hello! - How did you get the printer to crank out filament like that at the end of the video? Is there a particular STL file you use or?? Please let me know, I'd appreciate it:-) Thanks! FIGURED IT OUT - Use the jog menu select "extrude" to manually advance filament - works GREAT!

      Would you ever do a full dismantle guide? I printed and wanted to replace with an e3d clone, but it's seeming daunting taking the whole thing apart almost.

    • @lylyluvda916
      @lylyluvda916 7 лет назад +1

      Owen Patrick it's actually not that hard to do. You still need to remove the fan, remove the things attached to the heat sink via the screws, remove the heat sink be removing the screws on the arm(the z axis). Move the lid to reveal one hex screw. This will loosen the belt. Move the belt to reveal the two screws holding the heat sink in place. Attach your e3d Monoprice adapter, install the e3d hotend. And reassemble the x axis reattach the thermistor and heat cartridge. Done

    Could you do a video describing how you did the fan mod?

  • @reluttr2
    @reluttr2 7 лет назад +2

    weirdly enough my printer was shipped with the tiny piece of tubing between the tubes brass coupler and the heatbreak. So I guess thats one less mod that I have to do. :D
    If I did want to swap to a all metal heat break, which ones do you recommend getting? I know some have much better tolerances and internal finishing than others.
    Also does it hurt if it has threads on the upper part that goes into the heatsink? I know the stock heatbreak doesn't.

    • @FDMGuru
      @FDMGuru  7 лет назад

      Yep, the newer ones come stock like that :) fully threaded will work just fine BTW.

    would it be better to rotate the heater block so that the wires are coming out towards the front of the printer?
    another suggestion that i got from the facebook group is to completely separate the wire weave from the bowden tube so that they are able to flex at their each own flex. just unwind the sleeve and rewrap around just the wires.

    • @FDMGuru
      @FDMGuru  8 лет назад +1

      Hey Michael,
      Thanks for commenting! The default heater block orientation provides the best access for layer cooling so I would not rotate it. I like the separation idea although I would probably loosely clip them on a couple places still.

  • @kathimoorehead3877
    @kathimoorehead3877 7 лет назад +1

    On the top of the heat sink. Why not just drill out the Bowden fitting and push the bowden tube, all the way, to the heat brake, that way you wouldn't need the little chunk of tube?

    • @FDMGuru
      @FDMGuru  7 лет назад

      Should work great that way, many people won't have a drill press or handrill and vise necessary to do that however.

    Hey man great videos! Would you be able to show footage of you using your fan shroud for printing ABS and go maybe a little bit more in depth on set up for ABS beyond the fan shroud? Such as do you put the printer inside a box to create a warmer chamber or do you feel that's not necessary with this printer.... ect. Doing good with the videos keep it at the select mini people thank you!

    • @bobheadrick5228
      @bobheadrick5228 8 лет назад

      What do you want to do with the printer? How much do you want "tinker". I was planning to build a printer, but a month or so ago bought the MonoPrice Mini - the price was compelling. I have been using it to print Hypercube 3D printer parts. I have had my share of nozzle clogs, a broken extruder and a few other things that required disassembling things and fiddling. The process has been educational. For the price this was a good printer to learn with, and it has been useful to start building the parts for my next printer.

    • @FDMGuru
      @FDMGuru  7 лет назад +2

      Bob is asking all the right questions; this printer may require some hands on work for small issues, however that will help you gain a better understanding of the technology. There are many, many printers that a first time user could successfully operate as long as they are willing to learn, however the Select Mini is so easy to get into and and learn on that even though it may not be perfect, its still a better option than many more expensive printers.

    you have remove the upside isolation around nozzle and heat block ? This is essential to isolate the Block with Alufolie.

    • @FDMGuru
      @FDMGuru  7 лет назад

      Hello Karsten,
      The insulation is not necessary, however you must do a PID autotune after removing to have stabil temp control.

  • @RyanBankhead
    @RyanBankhead 8 лет назад +1

    Why do you keep it hot while removing the nozzle? I have a clog and will be attempting to clear it tomorrow.

    • @MrCodyborn
      @MrCodyborn 7 лет назад +2

      I was struggling to remove the nozzle with the printer cold, and got close to stripping the nozzle. I decided to try with it heated, and it was much easier to loosen. It must be that the heat block expands more than the nozzle, making it slightly easier to loosen.

      Hey Kyle,
      I hope you got your answers already, however for those reading comments:
      1) Yep, ou can replace just the nozzle.
      2) The insulation is not strictly necessary, however if you want to replace it here is a source:

    I tried to do this and could not get the nozzle loose at all. tried it with the printer on and off. I think im just going to replace the heat end with the E3d to make nozzle replacement easier.

    • @FDMGuru
      @FDMGuru  7 лет назад +1

      Hmm, was the heater on when you tried? Also make sure you are using strong pliers or a wrench. The V6 uses the same nozzle and heatbreak threads and thread depth so it should be same experience when swapping nozzles.

    • @FDMGuru
      @FDMGuru  8 лет назад

      Start with slow print speeds in the 20-30mm/s range and fast move speeds 100-120mm/s. I printed TPU at 210C with retraction at 40mm/s for the pull and 10mm/s for the return and a retraction length of 4mm. Also make sure you enable combing, as that will keep as much oozed filament as possible inside your part perimeter and off the sides.

      As long as you print slow (20-40mm/s with 10-20mm/s retract speed), soft PLA will probably work fine. Soft PLA is similar to TPU but just a little bit stiffer:

    Nice video, I have a quick question, I just replaced the nozzle with some I ordered off of Amazon, found here. 3D Printer Head(6PCS),6PCS 3D Printer 0.4mm Extruder Brass Nozzle Print Head for MK8 1.75mm ABS PLA Printer(0.4mm) www.amazon.com/dp/B01E91Q6OE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_turKybJ1VB805
    My question is that when I installed it and put everything back together and I set the size of the nozzle to a variety of different sizes .4mm and up to .9 mm however when it goes to print it presses down and compresses the print bed, I don't know what else to do as I do not have an extremely precise way of measuring the nozzle, however I measured it with a centimeter ruler and it looked like it was about .9 mm. Which I selected and it still didn't work. Any response would be appreciated, thanks!!

    • @timmusson4344
      @timmusson4344 7 лет назад

      If the nozzle is colliding with the bed, you need to re-level your bed. Before that, make sure that you have moved the whole hot end up a little, because the new nozzles are longer than the original one. You have to make up for that difference. Once it's close, level the bed for the fine adjustment.

    • @FDMGuru
      @FDMGuru  7 лет назад

      Sorry for late reply, but Tim is correct; start by coarsely adjusting your hot end height by loosening than re-tightening your heatbreak setscrew. Once you are close, re-level your bed following the instructions in my bed leveling video.
