Former NSW Labor treasurer endorses 'temporary suspension' to 'rebalance' immigration

- Former New South Wales Labor treasurer Michael Costa says, “you do need immigration”.
This comes amid increasing concern regarding Australia’s increasing migration numbers putting a strain on housing.
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton detailed he had a plan to cut migration down 25 per cent.
“The bottom line here of course, is you do need immigration,” Mr Costa told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.
“He is [Dutton] only proposing a temporary suspension until you rebalance the program to focus on skilled migration but also to get housing supply.”

Never mind "temporary", restrict it to 80,000 per year which equals the number of Australians that move overseas each year, effective a "NetZero" that ALL Australians can fully SUPPORT. In addition, REMOVE the 80,000 that have been rejected as "refugees" but refuse to leave ( only 8 have returned to their home country.), "encourage" them to leave FORCEFULLY.
If that the case they can send them non genuine asylum seekers to RDA until complete the case but everyone this land is once migrated lawfully and unlawfully

If I read the rules correctly me being a 64 yr old retired American guy I'm too old to emigrate to Australia. There are lots of rules and restrictions but not for some specific groups on boats.

we do need to use immigration but right now we are letting anyone in with any so called skill with their whole extended family when we should be just taking the like of doctors, engineers and their immediate family not a new deli truck driver and all his cousins who have no skills to offer us.

Australia was a wealthy country when its population was half what it is now. A bigger population doesn’t necessarily translate to a wealthier country. Just ask India or Bangladesh.
They enjoyed a much higher standard of living. The country trains, for instance, had leather seats and carved timber frames with pictures on the cabin wall, The passengers were in their own compartments that could hold six people comfortably and the compartments had sliding glass/timber doors and there were heaters, a jug of water and glasses and a train guard. I remember them well. Now we have more "stuff" but everything is a battle.
