When they get going, their innings can be a game changer. Moreover, it ain't easy to face the new ball. He deserves more chance, it takes time and patience to turn a young batsman into a good one.
I think in that case you haven't really watched the fourth innings of the fifth test match in KIA OVAL against England where KL Rahul scored 149; a perfect example of a top quality test match batting, although India ended up losing that match.
KL Rahul is no less than Kohli when it comes to skills(you would rather agree with if you understand cricket like me like a pro, not like an amateur crazy fan). It's only the temperament and the frame of mind that makes Virat Kohli THE INVINCIBLE VIRAT KOHLI. And I'll duly mention that KL Rahul is not in the best frame of mind currently. I hope he finds a way out ASAP.

Starc isn't even their best in tests,he averages 28.5 with the ball and is just a quicker version of shami,who when he gets a wicket can suddenly take another in quick succession. He is also very good to tail enders cause of his pace and bouncer + yorker approach. Hazlewood is a much better test bowler for them and for the last year and half Cummins has been their best as irrespective of the conditions he can make things happen when no wicket seems to be coming and that too likely against the oppositions's top batsman.
