Love that Herring fly, great video!! What size and type of hooks do you prefer? I started trying to tie striper flys a couple years ago but have only had luck with a crab pattern casting into shoreline grasses. Im new at it so I’d like to figure out what hooks and patterns might work. Thanks!

For this pattern, I use firehole predator hooks, ahrex predator, and partridge predator! All work well! Sizes 6/0 - 8/0

Man that's a great looking fly ... Are you fishing it in salt water or fresh ? Daytime or night ? You must be hitting some big fish .. Is there a difference in performance without the eye's ? I'm in NB which is just next door. I like the way you tie no big fuss with great results.

Fishing both, day and night, it’s been a great pattern. I’ve never fished it without eyes so I do not know! Appreciate the kind words!

Hey thanks for the reply .. I've tied something similar without seeing this pattern before on a much smaller hook # 4 / 2 with less flare .. With a muddler head, but I'm definitely going to try something close to what you tie .. Where do you get your big hooks ? You fish it in salt & freshwater ?

What brand, size, style is that hook? You’re right, this and a clauser and you are good to go
