I have a 1984 300zx model and I replaced mine as well but there's a rivet that most places don't tell you about so I drilled the top half of the rivet and replaced it with a low profile lock nut and bolt that I slid through a plastic cylinder so that it could hinge on so it wouldn't be metal on metal and it's as strong as factory (I did this a year ago and it still works great)
