They’re the nicest people I’ve encountered! They go out of their way to help! I had the best experience visiting in 2016 (yes, i’m one of the Americans who went). I went solo and I never felt unsafe.
Iceland's great for awesome photo opportunities! It's a beautiful & stunning landscaped country, just like the gorgeous Faroe Islands. Both countries/islands are certainly work a 2 week or more visit.
I had an excellent fish plate that was almost a stew and it was hearty, filling, and delicious! It was about $50. My daughter had a sandwich and hot chocolate for $22...
This is interesting. Just a fun fact to be aware of, the Icelandic population, has been scientifically & DNA tested, to verify their Irish ancestry too, so too, OTHER ethnic admixtures, primarily of European ancestry. Although, the odd Icelandic person, could also carry some NON-European admixtures too & this makes sense, when we think about ancient human migratory paths & the crossing over of genetic material, prior to man made borders being created, when humans were coming & going & mixing genetically. This was very much the norm globally, hence why almost all humans carry varying ethnic admixtures. There are obviously homogeneous ethnic groups around, but they are few & far between. Primarily women, were taken from Ireland & Scotland by the Nordic warriors, approx 1,000 years ago & hence, they settled in Iceland. These days however, DNA studies have revealed, that the Irish women didn't leave as much of a genetic imprint &/or influence, in the genetic make up of modern day Icelandic peoples, as once was. Certainly not to the degree, as when the Vikings first brought them to Iceland. It may be partly due to the time frame & the ancestral window of resolution & the dilution of ancestral DNA, within each ensuing generation.
