Also, while he was Fulham Chairman he was offered Stamford Bridge but declined as the rent was too steep so the owner Gus Mears founded Chelsea FC.

Some Spurs fans love to remind Arsenal fans about that but conveniently forget or didn't know that in 1908 Spurs finished 7th in the Southern League but were elected to the football league the same way Arsenal were elected to Division 1 i.e by voting members of the football league management committee. I'm an Arsenal fan and I disagree with this sentiment that Arsenal fans should'nt have treated Wenger so badly towards the end. In Wengers last two seasons we finished 5th and 6th respectively the last season was particularly bad. Wenger was a great manager for Arsenal but unfortunately he long overstayed his welcome and I believe the club has suffered as a result. We had opportunities to get managers like Klopp and Guardiola but choose to stick with Wenger's outdated tactics instead. This has set us back years.
Agree. I felt Wenger was given far too much power after David Dein left and he was unable to (or didn't want to) get out of his comfort zone and take another challenge. The owners didn't care because he was still regularly getting top 4 (with zero chance of winning the CL in his last few years). Look at the absolute dross he signed too - Silvestre, Squillaci, Gervinho, Chu-young Park, Andre Santos, Mustfi to name a few. The squad is slowly improving but we're playing catch up now.

Did you know Tottenham FC was not a North London club until the 1st of April 1965. Before the 1st of April 1965 they were part of Middlesex county after which they were integrated into Greater London. Therefore prior to the contrary Arsenal is the first and true Premier North London club. Having established themselves in North London in 1913 a full 52 years before Tottenham was recognized as being part of London.
Two questions: is there still an Arsenal fan base in Woolwich or do they all go to Charlton Athletic? And are Arsenal taking their roots seriously, for example by hosting an annual friendly at Woolwich or something like that?
There's definitely some, you do see people around that area wearing Arsenal stuff. Charlton probably had most of the casual support around there when they were a big club but it'll have drifted away now so I'd imagine Arsenal (or Millwall) are most supported in Woolwich now
Not 100% right. They went from Dial Square to Royal Arsenal to Woolwich Arsenal to The Arsenal and finally to Arsenal. The name The Arsenal was registered on 4th April 1914 and used until suspension of football at the end of the 1914/15 season due to the first world war.
Arsenal is not a North London club Arsenal is from Woolwich Arsenal and I need to go back And I just realise every minute you’re talking about Arsène Wenger but you’re forgetting in the 90s George Graham done a great job as Arsenal manager and I’m not even a Arsenal fan and I know that but don’t forget George Graham as he’s a Arsenal legend
I lived in the area at the time and saw plenty of Arsenal games.Arsenal won the League Cup in1987 and the League title in 1989 and 1991. Graham got the ball rolling.
Alan Shields Hamilton South Lanarkshire Scotland. I just see Arsenal as a London club I dont even think of Arsenal as North or South. Myb if I was a Londoner I would look at Arsenal differently but to me they are just a London club. I know a lot about the history of Arsenal I am big on sports history & social history myself. My understanding of why Arsenal moved North of the river is they wanted to gain a larger fanbase & this is a big part of the reason they had money troubles in the first place when they where South of the river as geographically in South London they where not in the best location catchment area at that point in history. I am a Chelsea fan now I dont particularly like Spurs or West Ham United but I respect both clubs & there history but Arsenal have always been a club I am not really fussed about as a club they stir absolutely no feeling in me what so ever to be honest. It was very cool to see the actual history locations in different points in Arsenal's history in the modern day though Sam. Keep Safe Sam & Keep up the good work.
Cringe worthy how Spuds throw up Woolwich as if it’s an insult or will insight some form of annoyance. Facts stand that lot up the road have their entire trophy cabinet in their club shop, including the DVD of when they last won the league…. apparently it’s being reproduced in colour soon. You neglected to mention Spuds are from Middlesex, not London, and what use to be a swamp…. Not much has changed there.
Best thing Arsenal did by moving to North London is that we turned it from white to red in an instant and all spurs fans are still bitter about it to this day.

as a chelsea fan i think arsenal are north london not south london
Go to livi v kelty hearts
I think they were called dial square??
Did you know Tottenham FC was not a North London club until the 1st of April 1965. Before the 1st of April 1965 they were part of Middlesex county after which they were integrated into Greater London.
Therefore prior to the contrary Arsenal is the first and true Premier North London club. Having established themselves in North London in 1913 a full 52 years before Tottenham was recognized as being part of London.
Not really, Tottenham didn't change their location like Arsenal did
Two questions: is there still an Arsenal fan base in Woolwich or do they all go to Charlton Athletic?
And are Arsenal taking their roots seriously, for example by hosting an annual friendly at Woolwich or something like that?
There's definitely some, you do see people around that area wearing Arsenal stuff. Charlton probably had most of the casual support around there when they were a big club but it'll have drifted away now so I'd imagine Arsenal (or Millwall) are most supported in Woolwich now
@@patrickchampion8179 what about Crystal Palace?
Not 100% right. They went from Dial Square to Royal Arsenal to Woolwich Arsenal to The Arsenal and finally to Arsenal. The name The Arsenal was registered on 4th April 1914 and used until suspension of football at the end of the 1914/15 season due to the first world war.
That's East London, Sam. North of the river, though.
What is East London?
@@leebush4053 it's a geographical part of London that locals identify with. It's also a place in South Africa.
DIAL SQUARE! not DIAL ARCH!
The original MK Dons 😂

First
North
Arsenal is not a North London club Arsenal is from Woolwich Arsenal and I need to go back
And I just realise every minute you’re talking about Arsène Wenger but you’re forgetting in the 90s George Graham done a great job as Arsenal manager and I’m not even a Arsenal fan and I know that but don’t forget George Graham as he’s a Arsenal legend
I lived in the area at the time and saw plenty of Arsenal games.Arsenal won the League Cup in1987 and the League title in 1989 and 1991. Graham got the ball rolling.
@@geoffpoole483 Exactly and no one gives him the credit but it always talking about Arsène Wenger kmt

I just see Arsenal as a London club I dont even think of Arsenal as
North or South.
Myb if I was a Londoner I would look at Arsenal differently but to me they are just a London club.
I know a lot about the history of
Arsenal I am big on sports history &
social history myself.
My understanding of why
Arsenal moved North of the river is they wanted to gain a larger fanbase & this is a big part of the reason they had money troubles in the first place when they where South of the river as geographically in South London they where not in the best location catchment area at that point in history.
I am a Chelsea fan now I dont particularly like Spurs or
West Ham United but I respect both clubs & there history but Arsenal have always been a club I am not really fussed about as a club they stir absolutely no feeling in me what so ever to be honest.
It was very cool to see the actual history locations in different points in Arsenal's history in the modern day though Sam.
Keep Safe Sam & Keep up the good work.
What if Emirates were built in the South?
The obsession with Spurs fans with Arsenal
Being pedantic, Tottenham are Middlesex, not North London.
That theory means arsenal are from Kent
Cringe worthy how Spuds throw up Woolwich as if it’s an insult or will insight some form of annoyance. Facts stand that lot up the road have their entire trophy cabinet in their club shop, including the DVD of when they last won the league…. apparently it’s being reproduced in colour soon. You neglected to mention Spuds are from Middlesex, not London, and what use to be a swamp…. Not much has changed there.
Have a look at google and learn something you south London muppet
Best thing Arsenal did by moving to North London is that we turned it from white to red in an instant and all spurs fans are still bitter about it to this day.
''Nice to be in the warm again.'' Some would say, not me of course, but some would say, once a southern softy, always a southern softy.....
Arsenal's true rivals are Charlton Athletic
True 😅
