The Rogue Trader Imperial Guard army list had IG squads broken down just like marine squads: tactical, devastator, and assault. The assault squads had two las pistols and jump packs, so this is a throwback to that.
The best part is that since this army will only be used in casual play anyway, you can get really nuts with it. Use stormtroopers as infantry and run AT-STs as sentinels. Take Endless Horde and use orks. I hope we get another PDF like this for xenos, a build-your-own-minor-xenos-empire army.
If you look up the Liber Panoptica project there's a huge amount of work going into additional rules for Xenos factions. I think they're just doing the Eldar lists now but were gonna do Orks next I think.
One of my 2nd Ed armies was spiritually similar to this. A Frateris Militia army made up of scores of Necromunda gang models with autoguns and heavy stubbers, with the minimum Sororitas models to make it legal. I used it in a LGS campaign that took place over several weeks. Marine players would put twelve models on the table and I'd put on 120. They could barely hit, and had no penetration but the sheer weight of dice rolled, my word. Nothing could face that.
How many points were that? like I have a 700 hundred points of darkness angels, and that's barely 2 squads, one Chaplain and ezequiel( wich I have to proxy using a metal captain )
I love this list in general but one of the funniest parts is that the force commander can get one of the few 3+ invulnerable saves in the game via iron halo plus cyber familiar, something most SM preators can't do.
I'm using the hobbit minis from the lotr game to make my militia. Hobbits with lasguns, rapier batteries in wooden carts pulled by ponies, and old rusted tanks with farming equipment strapped to them
That list is so versatile you could easily make multiple armies and just play them against each other for balanced games if you wanted. Pretty cool to just see how well you can do against a Legion though!
I always have a soft spot for the normal person faction in Warhammer. When everyone else is a super badass or a frightening monster, running your average Joe or Jane (albeit possibly deranged from Chaos and/or high on Meth, Whermacht style) makes what you do more impressive by comparison. It's the underdog principle. On the subject of models, 3rd party is a great place to go. I always give a shoutout to Wargames Atlantic. And at time of writing, there's about 3 hours left in their "The Damned" (of "The Lost &" variety") crowdfunding campaign. They've unlocked tons of kits for their renegade or war-torn model range, from Infantry (male and female) to Ogryn to Cavalry to Hounds (+ Handlers) to Heavy Weapon Teams to Artillery (read: Field Ordinance Batteries) to Command to even Heavy Infantry (read: stormtroopers, Kasrkin, Scions, etc). People who pledge multiple boxes get a TON of extra sprues as backer rewards. Like, I have the equivalent to two whole boxes of infantry in sprues, and that's just from the dedicated infantry kits. I did dirty math, and I've got about 1455 pts in 10e Guard models, at least, for only $154 American. (I'm making an extra Cavalry model into a Traitor!Lord Solar). Come on over, while there's still time.
Ian, so often I stumble on one of your videos and suddenly feel like I have spent my 40k time living under a rock. Mate, thank you for finding a way for my Imperial Warhammer Pistoliers to have a life as cavalry in a Horus Heresy setting. Love your work mate.

Right. So... I'd only watched Warhammer lore videos prior to this (mostly yours) and I'm pretty sure my brain sprained it's ankle about 8 minutes into this. How.... how do people play this game? Is the rulebook less of a book and more of a "Tome"? Honestly, it feels like the rules to this game must be similar to something the actual Imperium would come up with! XD
Ian's video on the mental load in 40K explains this well. Essentially, the rules started out simple in 3rd edition with a reset of the game. Then 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th edition kept that basic skeleton but kept adding additional complexity to the system with each edition. But if you were like me, playing since 1996, you had time to process and fully internalise each edition (usually about 4 years long), so the additions didn't seem onerous because it was second nature. However, it had the effect of making the game become impenetrable to new players, and eventually lead to another big reset for 8th edition.
They seem stupendously characterful. Shame they’re not even remotely effective, but then, the game is focused on genewrought transhuman supersoldiers fighting each other.
Heresy, it's Marines vs. Marines! Boo, boring. But it's a proper wargame! Yay, reactions and vehicle rules! But Mechanicum rules are, ah...not great. Boo, why GW why? But you can now make fluffly, flavorful militia forces! Yay...? I swear, this game has me on a roller coaster of emotions, and I haven't even played yet.
Leman Russ Tanks: I don't think you mentioned it, but far as I can tell, there are NONE sponson options for the tank in the list, which is what a lot of people think really is terrible about the tanks. Nobody much builds and fields a Leman Russ without sponsons in normal 40k, and to magnetize or just build a non-sponson tank for what is generally considered a really bad HH list, is problematic. I suppose if you are a die hard, you might just, but then you now have a Leman which is pretty good only for Horus Heresy and, meh.
“30k” is a great game, but could definitely incorporate more of the existing 40k players. Publish Great Crusade missions/campaigns. Ullanor for instance will bring the orks in. Eldar has many opportunities as well.
The Voidjumpers are a reference to the old Jump Trooper models from Citadel. Veeery old and obscure to let people field those classic models!

I play 40k but haven't won a game since October of 2022. Maybe I should pick this list up and just remove all hope. Lmao
I really like this army. Just playing militia vs militia could be a game of its own. It's also a really good way of 3rd party minis.

Glory to the one who wins a tournament with this army!

But if you were like me, playing since 1996, you had time to process and fully internalise each edition (usually about 4 years long), so the additions didn't seem onerous because it was second nature. However, it had the effect of making the game become impenetrable to new players, and eventually lead to another big reset for 8th edition.
@@johnnybigbones4955 Makes sense, because I came back and watched this video again today and I'm still a bit lost! XD
FW '' Lets make a crap army but still charge A LOT of money for it, this way we can make it twice as bad to buy ''
Please go back to "no music during the introduction statement", the way it is now is pretty annoying.
Other than that: three thumbs up, as usual!
They sound dreadful, you've sold them to me 😊😊
Leman Russ Tanks: I don't think you mentioned it, but far as I can tell, there are NONE sponson options for the tank in the list, which is what a lot of people think really is terrible about the tanks.
Too many adverts ian
He’s not the bbc brother
Well this seems very unfun
Tee hee... "penal troops" 🤭
Col Richard "Sweaty" Balzac's Bellend Irregulars.
Please stop speeding up videos!
??
“30k” is a great game, but could definitely incorporate more of the existing 40k players.
Publish Great Crusade missions/campaigns. Ullanor for instance will bring the orks in. Eldar has many opportunities as well.
