She was an alcoholic and drug addict for most of her life and you can hear the pain in her voice. One of the greatest singers to ever live. Her stuff goes way back. You got a lot of listening to do. Beyoncé did an awesome job playing her when she was young and Chess Records was getting started in the movie Cadillac Records.
Etta James made some cracking records. This is my first time watching her live and I was struck by how she's like a female version of Al Green in terms of the emotion and quirkiness displayed in her performance. If you like this I strongly urge you to watch Al Green's live Soul Train performance of 'Jesus Is Waiting' or 'For The Good Times', guaranteed hit in the feels every time.

Etta James was so amazing. I forgot how much I missed her voice. So out of your comfort zone, I do have two suggestions; Lisa Fischer live "How Can I Ease The Pain" and Heatwave "Always and Forever" live. Both are incredible! Love how you are branching out. I like my music eclectic.
That is a great room acoustically, which is one reason why she can deliver without the mic. Very little distortion, take a look at the ceiling to see why it is a great room for sound.
