I also bought a house in Pasadena in 2012. My craftsman house is 100 years old fully restored with original wood work. My decor is completely different, and house less clattered. I am a minimalist and don’t care for all that different colors of furniture and all the wall paper. I decorate my walls with original art pieces from 18 and 19 centuries that I purchased from art auctions. It’s perfectly balanced with the history of the house.

I'd never think to put the laundry room right off of the family room or a guest bath in the butler pantry.
