If you’re cruising to Costa Rica on the Pacific Ocean side, you’ll almost certainly dock at the Puntarenas Cruise Port, the ideal jumping-off point for day-long excursions .
There are two cruise terminals at the Puntarenas Cruise Port: Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica's largest seaport, and Puntarenas itself.
Cruise ships usually dock at the long pier of Puntarenas unless they are more cruise ships scheduled on that day. If your ship arrives at Puntarenas , you’re just a short stroll away from the cruise terminal and the Puntarenas Malecon. A free trolley bus also runs from the ship landing to the terminal-a convenient option for people with limited mobility. If your ship docks at Puerto Caldera, you’ll need to call a taxi or arrange a transfer for the 20-minute ride to town.
Many Puntarenas shops, restaurants, and services are located along the seafront promenade known as the Malecon.
Shore excursion buses from the ship wait for you at the end of the pier. Independent travelers can walk to the end of the pier where you will go through security. When you exit the pier you will be right in the centre of Puntarenas.
