About Dan it's actually that the fighting style he created is the actual strongest fighting style, but he's too busy coping Ken and Ryu to realize and he'sbad at the stuff he's coping. If he sticked to his own style he be a way better fighter.

He's also a hilarious character in the meta. He's often picked by extremely, extremely good players ho know he's just a bit worse than everyone else, so that it's more humiliating when they win or (more charitably) so it's more of a challenge to do so. It's actually kind of fitting with his personality and general design, which is very funny to me.
technically Dan is not copying Ken and Ryu, he was trained initially by Gouken, but when Gouken realize Dan was learning ansatsuken to avenge his father death, he refused to teach him the rest, so Dan was left only with the basics of the technique, so he filled the gaps with his own knowledge (which just happen to look similar to Ryo Sakasaki's style from SNK), that's why his moves are goofy but still work to a certain point.
at one point in the comics, he gets taken over by the Satsui no Hado, and actually manages to pull off a Raging Demon! He…trips over a rock mid-dash and knocks himself out but still!!
The other thing with Dan is that in SFV he does genuinely tap into the true strengths of the Saikyo style but by accident. From time to time, he throws a super powerful red fireball which means that can use Saikyo as it is meant to be used but given his "WHAT THE?!" when he does, he has no idea how to use it properly.
I can't believe this was Grayfruit's last video before the cordyceps fungus took him over from his vocal cords out and puppeted his lifeless body into becoming the #1 pop star in the West.

at 5:11 The lady in the background is Dhalsim his wife. It is a reference to Street Fighter Alpha 2 where she stood also in the background.
She would cheer for Dhalsim if he won, and cry if he looses.
Now you can argue wheter it is truly his wife or not, but in the days of Street Fighter 2 their they brought a promotion book out with art in Japan, showing the characters in their free time. In that book Dhalsim is shown in a room eating with a kid and the same women, with under the picture something like "Dhalsim tells his wife and child about the advantures he had in the Street Fighter tourement". The book with translation is avaible in the Street Fighter 30st Anniversary Collaction game.

You wanna know the most fucked up part about the Street Fighter timeline? If people's estimations are correct, SF6 takes place in 2007 to 2008-ish, and the only way people guessed that was because Ken's kid (Mel, he's in Ken's ending) was three years old in SFIII, and 6 says he's a "teenager" with no specific age given, so the best theory people have is a 10 year skip from III to 6, since that would make him 13 or 14.
TL;RD: The current timeline depends entirely on how long ago Ken's kid punched him in the balls.

Since you're done with the series, you should the same thing but with Tekken. There aren't that many games, there are 8 main-line, 2 Tags, and Tekken Advance off the top of my head, with Tekken 8 coming soon. They're fun, funny, and simple. I think you and Lark would at least like the games, especially with how much goofy shit happens. Great music, easy to pick up, and in glorious full 3D.
I would NOT say simple, but Tekken is amazing. They would freak over Tag’s 2p Arcade. OH and the music will hit.

I don't actually know if that Rose alt is a Kars reference, but she is based off Lisa Lisa. She even attacks with her scarf like her.
a while back i saw a video about Seth and Abel’s dynamic and why they’re a really forgettable set of main hero + villain in this game. because for the uninitiated, abel is treated as the “main character” of SF4 the way alex was the main character of SF3.
so apparently, their dynamic is basically that they’re really similar to the dragon ball z characters Perfect Cell and Android 16. Seth is a copycat villain who has the abilities of the other characters, and Android 16 is a kindhearted nature loving yet otherwise stoic robot. And that matches up with Seth and Abel, who are both also mechanical beings who can be described like that.
If you ask me, those two ended up being forgettable because Perfect Cell has way more stage presence and personality than Seth does (especially in DB video games and the abridged series where they just allow Cell to go full savage roast mode), while Android 16 is a character who was written to be part of a group dynamic and would not be very interesting if he were outside of that context for that saga. Because android 16 is a stoic yet kind robot hardass travelling with two punk teenagers, while Abel is usually just by himself. That’s a much less interesting character, imo.
You can tell Seth wasn’t the most beloved character because they had to give him boobs for people to not think he’s lame. Arguably same with Abel since SF6 has another French grappler who apparently plays somewhat similarly, being Manon.
Also fun fact: Seth ends up losing all of his matches against the cast. CANONICALLY. He fights basicalLy everybody, and loses. Because he makes like, copies of himself to fight everybody else in Bison’s ending or some shit like that (which is basically just the Cell Juniors…) Bison wasn’t like that (he died to Ryu in SF5), and neither was Gill (who canonically went down to Alex).
To add to the dragon ball comparisons, I’d like to add that the shadaloo trio of Claw, Boxer and Dictator is REALLY similar to the dynamic of Zarbon, Dodoria and Frieza, respectively.
And I’d compare Cooler to pre-character development Sagat as well because both are affiliated with the main evil dictator, but are warriors with the motivation of revenge.
And although with Cooler I’m not sure about the time frame, I would definitely say that DBFZ made Cooler into the Sagat of the game.
You can just see a lot of random dragon ball inspiration in the street fighter series in general, even if it may have been mutual. Cause while a hadouken is basically a Kamehameha, Goku doing a dragon fist in non-canon DB stuff always felt a bit “Street Fighter” to me…
