Super was incredibly a cash grab that only made things worse, vegito is nerfed, future trunks beautiful ending he had Z is stupidly ruined, and it made major damage to goku’s character by regressing him, in order to keep him the protagonist.
My personal problems with super
1. arcs never feel connected, each arc always feels like it’s own mini story that didn’t effect the next arc.for instance,although the goku black arc was good if you skipped it and went to the tournament of power your not really missing out on anything aside from 2 zenos with isn’t really important.dbz did this well with the saiyan saga to the namek saga where the consequences get carried over to the next arc(all the z fighters dying affects the namek saga).
2. It completely destroyed power scaling.Characters are just getting millions of times stronger for absolutely no reason.Roshi and 17 are the best examples of this.also goku going to high forms against characters that are literal fodder gets annoying.
3. goku is just retarded in super, even more than he was in Z.
4. it introduces new concepts and retcons so much stuff that it literally creates plot holes in Z.The mafuba being used constantly in super really begs the question as to why didn’t the z fighters never use the mafuba against past villains.Also ruining/retconning characters like bardock and screwing goku’s backstory.
5. the forms are just garbage.Most of them accomplish literally nothing and are clearly just cash grabs.ultra instinct and maybe ultra ego are the only good ones.
6. the first 3 arcs weren’t that good,the first 2 were rehashes and the third was boring for most of it.
7. the final problem is that it takes place before the end of Z which literally takes away any possible stakes the series has.
IK this was long and there are more.these are just the ones that are the most prevalent.
Edit:lack of deaths for the main cast is also another problem that I forgot to mention.and don’t say “we have the dragon balls” we also knew the namekian dragon balls could revive vegeta in the buu saga but it’s still one of the most iconic and memorable moments in the entire franchise.

Exactly. The BoG arc in super made Videl turn super saiyan during the SSG ritual which was just stupid. Also the RoF saga had a few issues like making Krillin get scared to fight Friezas fodder soldiers, killing Piccolo, Gohan barely being able to turn super saiyan, and Ginyu taking Tagomas body and somehow being stronger than Tagoma despite us seeing before that Ginyu cant use a swapped bodys full pwer right away.

Honestly, yeah. I don’t know for the life of me why they decided to make 2 arcs covering the movies and you could really tell just how rushed it all was back then, I especially feel bad for the animators that toei put through that schedule hell. The universe 6 tournament was like mid but it was new content so that helped it. The goku black arc was pretty good overall despite its issues and that goddamm ending that still infuriates me, and Top was also good.

This late in the game, I put dragonball to bed along with other things I grew up being heavily into. Daima to me, just sealed the deal, even though I never read the manga and only listened to the Dragonball Tubers review it. I largely accepted that modern media is not for me anymore. When Sonic frontiers arrive in the mail, if I'm not that into the game, I'm going to accept that my interest in Sonic ended with Adventure 2 and early Sonic X episodes.
My point is, sometimes you just got to let things go. Dragonball is one of those things that will NEVER be like it was in the 90s to early 00s, the fact Diama exist (to attempt to pull in a new audience) proved it (dragonball franchise) has overstayed it's welcome.
My thoughts exactly. When a anime finally ends, it should end. Anime only continues because people that say "This is so good! I don't want this series to end! I want more!" Its absolutely ridiculous. Sometimes the creator of his or her own anime should ignore their fan base. Although I'm not of your era of Dragon Ball, I do understand your point.
Dragonball Super is awful, but I personally thpught that Sonic Frontiers was amazing and I have been playing Sonic games since Sonic 2.

The Universe 6 vs. 7 arc in the anime had several highlights that got fans hype both in a good and bad way:
1. A proper introduction to another universe's G.O.D. & angel. Yes, we did get that one episode during the Golden Frieza Saga when Beerus & Whis were headed to earth because Goku & Vegeta left them behind. In the void of space they come face to face with Champa & Vados. However, if you go back to the original air date of that episode it dropped in December so IMO that felt like an early Christmas present to fans. Being introduced to the gods of Universe 6 also expanded upon the idea of 12 other universes out there.
2. The internet losing their minds when Super Saiyan Goku got taken out by Frost. Poison needle or not, it was a sad sight to see considering we just endured the Sorbet Ring Laser in the previous arc...
3. Vegeta's Final Flash vs. Magetta because it truly felt like it was pulling back from the epicness that was the debut of the move against Perfect Cell.
4. Vegeta taking Cabba under his wing by 'training' him to become a Super Saiyan. Gosh, this still holds up WAY better than the tingly back nonsense during the T.O.P. arc! Along with the promise of someday having Cabba introduce Vegeta to the kind of Sadala.
5. Even though it was a one sided beating, Vegeta vs. Hit was a pretty solid fight. If I remember correctly, it was one of the few if not the first time we saw a bit of blood in the Super anime.
6. I'll end my list with this because THIS moment was THE moment that brought fans to Super in droves; Goku bringing back the Kaio-Ken in combination with Super Saiyan Blue!
Finally, a big DB youtuber actually CRITICISES Super instead of talking about it like it's the greatest thing ever. The way I look at it, the original Dragon Ball was the Silver age, Z was the Golden age, GT was the Bronze age, and Super.....let's be real, it's the dark age. I really want Daima to be good, I really do. However, I just don't see it happening due to the fact that the stuff we've been getting for the past 10 years simply isn't very good. It's all rehashed and recycled ideas directly taken from its predecessors.

The first 33 episodes really aren’t that quality, drag on, and devoid of any tension. I do like the SSG Goku vs Beerus fight more in the anime just cuz it was more fleshed out.
U6 v U7 had some good fights but no tension at all. If U6 won literally all that would happen is that the universes switch.
I love the Goku Black arc but Trunks and Mai should’ve just stayed in the current timeline.
There should be no reason the recruitment for the ToP was 20 episodes long. The powerscaling was crazy, some of the episodes in the actual tournament dragged on, and some characters were underutilized.
Dragonball GT had its problems sure but Goku and Vegeta both felt mature in that series. They felt like the natural progression of their characters.
Goku may be a kid in GT but he is 10 times more mature than the Super version of Goku that doesn’t know what a kiss is or what meditation is even though he fucked chichi twice at least and used meditation to reach ssj3
This. Super was dumbed down to appeal to a younger audience, which it didn't need to. Dragon Ball already appealed to both a young and older audience as it previously was in DB, Z and GT.
I didn't think it was as bad as some people thought, but I completely understood the criticisms.
Maybe I was just happy about "new DB". However, I can definitely say I am not hype about "new toddler DB".

I agree. Super had a lot of rough episodes in the beginning, and reahashing the movies didn't help either. Later, they tried to do a lot of fan service without thinking through the plot. Overall, it was a decent show. We were able to get some fun out of it and expand on the lore, but there was a ton of poor execution on plot points. They didn't have to make everyone ssjb level for T.O.P. I loved the angle of Krillin being a strategy fighter and surprised Goku. I feel they should have played that angle more with the earthling characters rather than just giving everyone a major and unearned power boost. Better writing would have helped immensely!
Yes! I feel the community who watched as it came out in japan when through a very unique experience together and there is a comradery there, for sure.
Moro arc is probably my favorite in the manga too, but to me there isn't any arc that really stands out in the anime and i think that's part of the reason people hate on it so much. There was a ton of fan service, but nothing really stands out. The Zamasu arc had potential, but it honestly just bored me. Up until the fusion, but fusion can't win a fight, and having Zeno come in just felt anticlimactic.

There was multiple writers writing this episodes that why nothing makes sense in this show.
Like one episode they confirm Vegeta has 0 stamina left and then right at the start of the next episode he goes ultra blue like you have to be braindead to not see the clear problem with super.
And if at least this happen like every 2 or 3 episode nope every singel episode don't make 0 sense in their own universe that they created here.
I won't even talk about power levels that was gone from the moment Friza was revived from that point power levels were just gone.
My favorite moment was how android 17 can tank powered up Jiren attacks and he just block that blast wtihout dying he just blocked it dude went from guy weaker then Cell first form to guy who can block higher then god of destrcuion attacks like i don't no how braindead you have to be to actually say yea this show was decent.
People just look over this stuff only cause it dragon ball if it was any other new anime people would call it out but just cause it dragon ball it doesn't matter.
They also think they doing fans what they want by giving Piccolo and Gohan new forms only problem is we actually wanted some sort of development like build up to it but nope they don't train Piccolo babysits and Gohan is back at his study and poof they are on ultra instict level ahahah like this anime is just nightmare for Z fans like myself.

i dont think the general consensus is that super sucked,i personally found it as enjoyable as gt and it's not like i enjoy every form of dragonball content,heroes was GARBAGE for example and that's why im gonna give daima a fair shot...cant be worse than heroes
Same, I liked Super as much as GT. Both have faults, both have strengths. I'd rather have them than not.
1. Ruined power scales 2. Sidelined 90% of the cast. 3. Kind of rushed showing flaws in animation. 4. Goku Black was so wasted it hurt. (Overall although it was ok watching the Goku and Vegeta show.)
5. The only reason Caulifla, Kale, Kefla are popular is because of Rule 34 "Art", Not because they did anything cool or impactful in the show.
Honestly a lot of Super's problems i feel stem from DBZ's power scaling making it near impossible for them to tell the stories they wanted to tell without random power ups to make up for Toriyama neglecting the entire non-Saiyian cast since end of Namek. And the bad decision to introduce god ki.
Can't do fun stuff on Earth with the earthlings without getting rid of Goku because oops we made him a god in the recent movies and didn't think we'd get another set of movies and a 200 episode Anime. Gotta hide Vegeta too, though you could almost get away with him not caring enough to get involved with everything.
It's difficult to introduce new villains without making the god forms look bad. Also I'm convinced the Blue Spam was a Toei mandate to have the form appear often for marketing reasons. It just makes more sense when you think about it that way.
And there's nowhere to go with Goku's character arc. It was finished by the end of the Buu Saga. All we had left was Vegeta, probably should have made him to focus for Super. Since i like the idea of them flushing out the Saiyians and their history more. With the Granola arc.
But power scaling again, made the Granola arc impossible to work as a story without that "wish". Or at least having him only fight Gas. Flushing him out as a character. With Goku and Vegeta being just mentors to help prepare him to beat his eventual nemesis, The Heaters. And if we needed them to fight, Black Frieza would have done nicely for that. Could evem end the fight in a draw if they didn't want to kill him.
yeah, super sucks. it always sucked. You can go back to earlier videos and read my older comments if you need details as to why i think that. Dragonball super is essentially just Fast X. If you were going into super expecting good writing and character development or any real effort at all to be put in, then you're gonna have a bad time. Just like with Fast X, if you come into super with the expectation that you were about to watch something incredibly lazy and stupid, you can squeeze some fun out of it.

The Super Hero movie was ok. The parts with Pan and Piccolo were amazing, really liked that stuff. All the Gohan parts were pretty bad imo.

On a more serious note, I feel like we do, and we don't owe Super an Apology. We do because back in Phase 1 of Super (BOG to TOP), Super was at least trying to do new things. There was more ambition there, with the other universes and the gods. It's not like now where everything is in Universe 7, and there's constant, "Hey, remember this? Hey, remember that?" Nostalgia pandering. Super actually had an identity back then that pushed it beyond the other series. Now, the most hype thing we have is a Z villan that's here for like the 3rd time.
On the other hand, I don't think we owe Super an apology. Phase 1 was a mixed bag to put it nicely. The movie retelling was terrible, the U6 arc is OK, the Goku Black arc is pretty polarizing specifically for its ending, and the TOP was good. That's putting it pretty broadly, but the point is it fumbled the ball quite a bit. I can't really say we're doing much right now.
A good guy I recommend called is killalicious , he pretty much exposes super for the trash that it is. He is the only one honest enough. He’s the avatar
Just watch the movies Battle of Gods, Ressurection F, then skip to the universe 6 & 7 tournament saga and go from there. In the first dozen episodes, not only are the movies retold in agonizingly long, drawn out episodes with horrible filler in between, but the animation in those episodes was horrendously bad. The animation didn't get better untill the tournament of power saga, and its sad it took that long.
Super was hot trash not one moment like Z or even GT you can watch one million times the power scaling has been broken since Z but now God Ki is like chucky cheese it’s sad lol I am not watching the new arcs idk if I am alone but I give up.
Yes I agree Qaaman Dragonball Super had alot of issues and flaws such as covering the first two arcs agian, the ending of the Goku Black Arc with Future Trunks and Future Mai leaving and the character portrayel of the Dragon Team. I feel that GT is more true to the spirit of Dragonball especially the ending.

I don't see why you would watch the first two arcs when the movies are there and clearly are superior. After those two arcs you get to universe 6 which is mid until goku vs hit when it gets good and super goes good after that with just a few bad scenes.

Bro, I remember watching the Dragonball super episodes on RUclips with the countdowns for it and people would just stream them here, and every week you never knew if it was gonna be hella hype, or just another episode before the hype comes in. At least from how I remember it
I remember it the same way. Lol those RUclips channels deserve so much recognition, they uploaded the full episodes with subtitles hours after it came out. Lol It was so against RUclipss copyright policy that you can't find a single one of those videos now. Even then they sometimes disappeared 2 or 3 days after they were uploaded so you had to watch them right away too.

What’s crazy is I disagree with manga Zamasu take. I’d say it’s better than the anime one by quite a bit. The anime which I’m more of anime watcher but, the asspulls they had in that was wild also I feel like the manga did the power scaling overall better. Which was a massive problem in the anime.

Nah eff DBS. The way you described not realizing how good things were before it was gone is how i felt once DBS came on the scene and gave continuous disappointment after disappointment. It directly decreased my desire to engage with DB, the fandom, and has made itself more into the meme it was becoming while it was away (transformations out the wazoo, leaning into goku's stupidity way past the point of what it used to be, there's like a bunch more i could list but you get the point)

Dbs had its moments but personally I totally dipped out for like 2 months when they made the movies part of the show and changed stuff. Insignificant changes, really. Didnt even know about Ginew if u didnt tell me. Did he even leave the arc alive?
Besides the TOP, Broly, and Super Hero, everything else about super was not good, and it’s aged extremely poorly.
I already made this comment twice, But Caulifla, Kale( was interesting at first, but then she became a broly clone)and Kefla are the WORST female Sayians in all dragon ball history. Bland, Had generic personalities, handed transformations on a silver platter and let's be real, Kefla was used to hype up ultra instinct omen Goku. The only reason these girls are popular at all is because of Rule 34.
It is always good to me to see more of Dragon-Ball and its characters.. but Super feels out of place in the story-line..(I'm not saying "bad" and it is always fun to see more of these characters but..)like why did Goku change to an annoying person (still love Guko of course) who would have troubles counting to 5 while he used to count thousands while training in Z...? Why did Mai suddenly became a kid just to grow again in Trunks' future...? And so on...
Maybe we needed something after GT not before it, and without these changes in the characters' personalities...

Super was a Mistake
Dragonball Super's Tournament of Power was 55 episodes long. On a weekly release, that shit was more than a solid year of a formula of "fight scene that took way too long for what it was only for the episode in-universe to be mere seconds long".
People clearly want DAIMA. They don’t want Super 2. how do i KNOW? They retell the Super Hero movie, everyone loses their shit… “oh but animation retelling is different” (1) no it’s not (2) you’re right. Manga’s are a terrible medium. Animated Dragonball is what matters but (3)!!!! :

Nah fam...Dragonball Super will always be a watered down Kinnikuman clone. Seriously, the Zamasu and ToP arcs are nearly a beat for beat rip of the Scramble for the Throne and Revival arcs but in reverse order. It's only a massive success because brand recognition and flashy animation (when good). The rest was recaps of the movie besides the Bukkake Vegeta mini-arc only to make SSJ3 and Gotenks pointless. Even Hercule did more than Gotenks.
Oh, wow! I've almost only heard people shitting on "Digimon: Frontier", whereas it's my favorite season out of the first 4.
Koichi was Koji's brother, being able to transform into Löwemon (German dub; lion-type Digimon) and... can't remember it's name... after he got freed from Cherubimon's influence. Without him, they couldn't have defeated Lucemon, as they had to merge light with darkness to get the final evolution done. However, the entire cast going up against Lucemon had to merge into one being in order to take it down in its final form. No side-character foddering there anymore!

Although there are a couple decent moments, I really just dont find much in super interesting
Barely any character development (hell some character backtracking), bs powerups, bleh fights, too much bad animation, pacing while not as bad as Z isn't the best, highly questionable retcons.
The two major anime arcs, Goku Black, and Tournament of Power feel like bad copies of the Chapter Black and Dark Tournament from Yu Yu Hakusho as well.
Sure Moro has a villain, but isn't he technically Cell?

For me , my opinion hasnt changed.
The tone of the show is much lighter , the art style is a turn off and the way they made choreography was lame , like they havent seen fight scene in their life , this was fixed in the TOP but thats kind of late.
The OST is forgetful,I cant rememeber one tune that stuck in my head, Goku is stupid, YES HE is Actually more stupid then his early days , you can even go by Toriyama's manga if you want to argue.
The man is just firing lasers around and has no clue of martial arts or seeing weakness in his enemies ,which something he was good at and powerlevels are all over the place even way more then Toriyama's own manga
Lack of actual tension because of Beerus/Whis and later Zeno , you can say they arent gonna fix everything but them being around just means a cop out if the Toei/Toriyama /Toyotaro are backed in a corner , lets be honest.
Beerus is my favorite out of the whole Super despite him just being there.
God Ki was an interesting concept then became useless especially SSB , I simply hate this form , has no meaning or power to it , it just is there.
Super was never good, and you all need to stop it with this nonsense. You're all acting liker Sonic and Zelda fans, where one game is bad, until the next game comes out, then that's the bad one and the last one you somehow convince yourself was "not that bad".

Ain't getting an apology from me. Yeah super did some cool things but overall the writing does nothing exceptional. There's no excuse to be wasting the potential of such a beloved classic anime. So many anime have incredible stories and writing, and Dragon Ball has not caught up and looks like it never will.
I hate all of super , I only liked Zamasu Arc (Manga) in Super , they were consistent with DBZ login , you and I have seem to have exact opposite views here
What I hated about the tournament of power it seemed you had to watch five bad episodes to get one good episode
It's hard being in your 30s as a DragonBall fan. Trying to convince your kids DragonBall is good and they compare it to other animes like demon slayer and it's trash. The art is shit the story is shit. The fights are mostly shit with a few good moments. DragonBall owes it's fans better
Imo, The Tournament of Power and A little bit of the Goku black Arc we're to me the only 2 arcs even worth watching. Cause they have their moments but they have issues. TOP was undoubtably the best Arc, mainly cause overall it had the Best Animation, Tope Tiers Fight Scenes. Only complaint I had was it's pacing when I watched it when it was airing on TV. But binge watching it on Crunchyroll was pretty great cause the Arc gave everything Dragon Ball was known for. Epic Battles, A Cool Transformation and "Pretty Good Animation" for the most part. Only if the rest of super lived up to the hype though. I think it had a "Terrible Start" and "Okay "Middle" and "Pretty Good" End.
So in my opinion for the zamasu arc I do like the anime way better but i think it would have been better for the anime to introduce super Saiyan blue during that arc. They talked about how ssjb was supposed to be this calm divine form which spoilers it ain't at all. They literally could have changed what whis was trying to teach goku and vegeta and make it that the training was to perfect their ssjg. They fucked up it up to the point where it ruined both forms.
Super sucks compared to Z but was better than GT, I never cared for it until Vegito made another appearance, skimmed through the rest til Toryiama started getting more involved
You is Krazy All of dragon Ball super anime & manga all been good it's better than nothing dragon Ball literally left us for atleast a decade plus gt was too long and confusing and lil annoying since dragon ball came back with battle of the gods it took off we carry the show y'all tweaking but let them write the show how we complaining times has definitely changed if dragon ball ranted on like really they even brought back broly gave us universes of fighters multiple stories lines new villians and we still dislike and complained well say this move on already stop downing a true dragon ball fan true wish to accept anything long as it never done enjoy y'all haters day
You can skip 30 eps of a show if 25 of those eps are retellings of 2 movies mixed with filler.

Honestly I'm just glad we're getting a new series that's being produced with more or toriyamas hand rather than toyotaro. This forms got outta hand, the retarded sudden power scaling and the constant story retellings. I won't miss it tbh

Wow, I actually love the manga version of the Goku Black arc, mainly because of seeing SSJ Goku Black before Rosè, SSG Vegeta’s debut and Vegito actually dominating Zamasu without a struggle. I didn’t start watching Super until the covid lockdown and as crazy as it sounds, I didn’t even know Super existed until I saw a clip of Vegito vs Zamasu on Facebook in 2020 and that made me realize “oh shit Dragon Ball actually came back” 😂 because I thought BoG and RoF were just once off movies and didn’t see the announcement for the anime. I used to see Cabba, SSB Goku, and SSJ Kale Dragon Stars figures in Walgreens before then but at that time i thought Super was like how Super Dragon Ball Heroes is rather than an actual continuation of the “canon” story
The best thing about dbs was the broly movie & super hero even though superhero isn’t great, it’s not a catastrophe like the manga. Dbs anime is mid even tho it’s had some good moments but not enough to make it good as a whole imo

Wow you didn’t like the the manga version of the goku black arc? I LOVE that arc in the manga. I mean I was super hyped watching goku use hakai because it was such a goku thing to do, to find a technique from someone like that and use it in a desperate situation. Like the solar flare for example, or when he instantly picked up the kamehameha. It had some spirit bomb vs Vegeta energy you know? Not even as a nostalgia thing what I’m trying to say is that it’s very in character for Goku to pull something like that. I mean the fight choreography… what rules are you talking about they’re breaking? What’s coming to mind is the portal ability merged zamasu had, him creating those katchin blocks and throwing them with telekinesis… which is something Freeza does with rocks. It didn’t seem very unusual for me with the context of Z fights. I also liked Vegito I really did. He did his thing and their power which shin felt rivaled Beerus broke the earrings, makes sense to me honestly.
Goku shouldnt be able to do Hakai because he was never picked to become a destroyer God. Its more than a technique, you have to have a certain energy to do it. The manga just crapped on that logic completely.
