Regarding lying vs jumping on the bed, would you say that both of those are spankable offenses? What if you told the kid not to jump on the bed, and he does it... then it is a violation of the 5th commandment.
I'm a new parent and I'm not spanking yet, because my son is only a few weeks old. But I know the time is coming when I'm going to need to know what to spank for and what not to spank for. And I have read Future Men and Why Children Matter.... not sure if that was explicitly mentioned. But there was wisdom offered regarding not setting your kids up for failure (so that you won't have to discipline them) and what attitude you should have if you should have to discipline them. But I'm not sure what the principe should be regarding whether or not to spank them.

Hey! I’ve been at this for a while now, but no expert. I rewatch these at times to just refresh myself and realign my thinking Biblically in parenting.
One distinction I have found is there is a difference in a kid being a kid and being rebellious. If the rule is to not jump on the bed and they jump, I spank. But the rule is known. Otherwise, a kid will jump on the bed because that’s what kids do. So make the rules known. Otherwise, you are just reacting and they don’t know why. It’s news to them.
As far as lying, my rule is if you lie you deal with the consequences of your action plus a spanking. If you tell me the truth, you will deal with the consequences (friend can’t come over because room is messy) and no spanking. Lying is a huge no in my house.
But hey, sometimes we jump on the bed! Enjoy them, but discipline them. Show them the ways of God and love them as you go. Time goes by fast and you only get one shot. God’s speed!
