Well i was wondering if the chain supports were optional, but you've demonstrated that they are not optional for heavier loads. You need to use the chain holes and usually at least one chain binder to assist supporting anything heavier than a couple hundred pounds so you don't warp your bucket lip or crack the forks. You have hooks on top of your bucket so that saves you from having to run the chain around the whole bucket. The chain(s) go from each fork's riser bar (that hole with a slot) to your upper bucket hooks. With no binder you can still run the chain(s) tight by hand, but for loads that reach the unit's limit, using a binder to tighten the chain just a little bit under tension will completely prevent future damage. Instead of the pressure going on those dinky clamps and welds that aren't made for enduring the load, it will put the pressure on the chains. Forks are levers which multiply force so even if they were the most expensive set on earth they'll break like toothpicks unless you support them as the manufacturer intended - with preloaded chains. The more expensive forks with the back plate can transmit force to the back plate like a regular forklift does. But you see they cost more and require quick attach. If you need to see chains in action, type in "bucket forks with chains" on youtube and youll see folks running chains to support the clamp forks. I say chain(s) because you can use one long chain or two smaller chains to get the job done with one or two binders.

Thank you. There was not much of a manual that came with these. I did not have chains but had a ratchet strap rated at 1000 lbs on the chain holes on each side. I will switch to chains to see if they hold up better

Thanks for this video. I was thinking about getting some clamp on forks. But im not willing to chance the unnecessary damage to my bucket to save a few dollars.

eBay has some cheap quick attach ones for around $300. I’m debating if they are worth it. If I get some I’ll be posting videos

Are these the 1500lb rated models? I am looking at these and I know many fail, but I am wondering if the 4000lb ones are any better.

This is the 1500 rated model. I noticed today also that the buckets has some indentation where the clamps are. I’ve found a quick attach set of forks rated at 2800 lbs for about $325 on eBay. I’m getting ready to pick up a set to see if they are better

Those clamp-on pallet forks are the weakest forks that I have ever seen pure rubbish.
