You need to do that more often and take it to the next level : 1/Get more weapons (Axes, Spears, Mace, Flails, Short sword/Shield) 2/Get more people to participate 3/Do it outside so you have enough space to do side steps & such 4/Do a tournament with 2 rounds of 5 minutes each
Outside for sure. That hammer was severely limited in those fights. If you could just whirlwind that shit it would be extremely effective, but they don't wanna break their PCs.
His moves only work because the other don't know how to fight, if he goes up to a professional of Kung fu or Hema, he would get himself cut into pieces
theyre more about making it look cool instead of making it look traditional, every movie would be so boring if all their coordinated sword fights was actually based off of actual swordfighting
Either he's very lucky, or he knows when to do them. If you look at his spinning strike at 5:50, you can see that brandon was caught completely off-guard by his move. If that wouldnt've been the case, D would've just gotten cut straight over the back since he didn't exactly push Brandon back or anything. However, since he struck at the right moment, D pulled off that risky and "impractical" maneuver without even coming in contact with Brandon's sword :)
RazSlayer Yeah well, this is obviously all fun and games, but I'd like to see him go against anybody with a remote idea of what they're doing or somebody with a shield.
BoarhideGaming Yeah, that wouldn't end well for him XD I mean, D's really good and all, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't actually practice any armed martial arts, or any martial art at all. He's alright against regular people, but there's just SOOOO many flaws in his technique that an actual practitioner could punish him endlessly for. We'd prob. never see him use his spin attack against them, though, since the fight would be over long before he could set that move up. In regards to the video, though, this was such a good blast from the past for me. Their first sword fighting video is easily one of my favorites, and this one was nearly as good :D
I was legit screaming internally when Brandon let D spin on him like that. Man had so much time to counter but instead he switched his block stance or... whatever that was he did.
Liam James Sam needs to keep both hands on the weapon and not let go, he also tends to overeach and become off balanced. Same thing with Brandon, and D has his legs a bit too far apart. Those are the bigger issues as far as I can see
this *is* proper fencing! theyre properly powering their strikes, raising to guard, disengaging and redirecting... heck, even most of their footwork is on point. im a historical longsword fencer, and everything aside from the ward positions looks fine to me. of course, theyre what i call low-intermediate fencers, they could improve their footwork, form, and core engagement... but theyre definitely a great visualisation of historical combat in my opinion. except maybe the spinny bits but hey, they actually do those properly as well.
If it was a real greatsword out of steel he would break his wrist if he tried to fight with it like a katana. The style of fighting does depend on the weight of the weapon.
Worfin i dont think any japanese would see it as disrespectful especially as there is many historical techniques for it and famous samurais who used them
Not really, his moves are straight out of anime and stuff, would get you killed back in the medieval ages. When he twirls, thats a clean shot for a sword to enter his hip.
Also, lets not forget, these dont have the real weight of a actual sword, meaning they are way easier to use and faster. When he used the greatsword, he was more offensive than he was defensive, which is a no no. A greatsword is all about defense, since you must go two handed and of the weight.
A Wakizashi might work but then again they can range from 30-60 cm so they would need to be around the same length for it to be fair. OR even a tachi would work.
There's a few companies out there that make ones for actual dueling but they're a bit pricey since a lot of them are custom orders, but I think some places do supply a base-model for beginners. www.ultrasabers.com/category-s/53.htm genesiscustomsabers.com/ www.saberz.com/ (Edit: misspelled a word)
For good LARP weapons, try Strongblade. Currently their two-sided warhammer is out of stock but they make quality items. Prices are a bit high but I believe most of these are hand made and/or constructed.
Tbh D needs a nerf right now he has way to much spin move exp and he honestly has a way to high damage radius Node what have you guys done with your game by adding this Op character! 2/10
Everybody loves D's stylish spins, but what about that no-sell slice Niko pulled off at 7:52 that took the GoPro out? That was beautiful in just efficiency, slight block, damn near instant short chop, nice XD
Johnny Green Face im not saying it isnt im saying getting close with a hammer that long is a bad idea and not how its suppose to be used your wanting to hit with the head with as much force in your swing as possible
No they just do this ALOT and play LOTS of video game. Believe it or not you can learn to some degree on how to use/do something just by watching it. This goes for video games as well.
First off, why would there be fewer trading blows if the weapons are just shittier handling? Second, they are already hurting each other with these foam weapons, if they used anything stiffer they would need to wear a lot more protection. Did you not notice how much the swords flexed upon hitting something?
1: slower, more realistic response times for trying to block a weapon. not "Shittier" as you wrongly state. 2: Foam is more of a slapping weapon, and the slower swing speed means hits are more tangible, and only hurt if someone's being an ass about swinging hard. 3: IT'S FOAM COVERING A THIN PLASTIC DOWEL. IT'S GONNA BEND. They were bending from simply being swung. Basic physics or thought would go a long way.
John Edington So what you're saying is you want them to use something that's heavier, stiffer and harder to use than what they have now. I don't know if you're aware, but heavier, stiffer objects impart more of their energy compared to lighter, bouncier objects. You even said yourself that it's safe UNLESS YOU HIT FULL FORCE. Why are you trying to be condescending?
Sorry about the condescension, stressful morning. The cold steel stuff works better because they're weighted more realistically, both overall and weight position. Because of this, you get fewer trade kills because a heavier weapon is a bit harder to swiftly move to block. I use them regularly, and also use foam weapons. The cold steel is generally better in my opinion and experience.
+John Edington, they're not full-time HEMA practitioners though, they're just doing this for fun, if it were the likes of Skallagrim(HEMA youtuber) this comment is indeed valid for the context related to.
Once again, Niko and D have the most delicious duels. While they are of course for the rule of cool, it seems the D's spin attacks are actually effective at catching his opponents offguard. he nails a clean blow 2 out of 3 times.
don't call me a rasict for calling D a ninja but that guy is literally a ninja AMD I just realised I was watching grown men play with dummie swords for a living
I love how everyone becomes sword experts after D does a spin Yet they don't realize that the only reason D did that was because he was having fun. (They also don't realize D has taken sword lessons before)
Your right, foam is foam, but there is a degree of quality. It is not the same foam used in mail packaging, and it is not craft foam either. Also if they did make it using 20 dollars what is your point? Every company everywhere does that. Being that the item is a niece market and is made in Canada (a country that has work laws) how do you expect them to make a reasonable profit? How much do you think it costs to make and ship a shirt? How much do you think it costs to ship a game on a disk? I don't think you really thought about your comment before you posted it. while a 100 dollar foam sword is a lot, it is probably worth it to get high quality (except the mace it was a poor design) item.
Where did you get that information for one? For two did you ignore everything I just said. It isn't a scam, for you it is just not worth the price. That doesn't mean it is a scam.
Budget sword fights: Go to $2 shop and buy 2 toy foam pirate sword. Get some duct tape and wrap it around the foam blade multiple times, won't hurt but will sting.
D & Niko's duel with the katana and the long sword... pretty impressive, BTW when you wield long staffed weapons spears, halberds, hammers half staff until an opening appears but great techniques with the blades
Hello, Node! I love this video so much, and I want to make sure everyone can understand and enjoy it. That's why I wanted to let you know that your captions are a little off. At about 0:21 the auto-captions say "Whats your source it" when Niko meant to say "What's your swords name." I just wanted to ask if you could fix that error as there are 360 million people that rely on closed captions for videos and the chances of some watching your videos is high especially since your content is phenomenal. Thank you and keep making awesome videos!
secret to hammer fighting: offhand near the neck, blocking the blade with the shaft between hands while closing the gap. This allows more powerful blocks while setting you up for a strong forehand or a simple maneuvering backhand.
D constantly looks like a he came out of an action movie with his smooth finishes.
It's one thing to cut a man down, it's another thing to look cool doing it.
Yoriko Arran so true, so true
I would love to duel D. I encourage anyone watching who thinks their friends might enjoy this to pick it up. It is great exercise!
King Sarathos yes
I agree, though as we've seen, when you have two swordsmen of equal skill, most of the time it ends in both parties dying.
D is the guy you want around for the zombie apocalypse.
Senik Nine agree XD
D just loves his spin attacks doesn't he?
Spin attacks = Badass cool points
Style points. lol
XReaperZX
He's basically Captain Levi from AoT.
It seems in that everything the Node crew does, D has to look cool doing it.
Not only that but you've already got momentum so you get to attack again quicker
You need to do that more often and take it to the next level :
1/Get more weapons (Axes, Spears, Mace, Flails, Short sword/Shield)
2/Get more people to participate
3/Do it outside so you have enough space to do side steps & such

Spinning is never extremely effective, esp with foam weapons xD
Spinning moves are high risk high reward, I assume they're useless with sharp weapon but with blunt weapon it probably works really well like at 5:55
Trouble in Medieval Town
azertyuiop7893 do all v all
I love how in anything like this D is always trying out a spin move.
M BR can we get a compilation of every time D does a spin or a three point landing?
he's trying to be levi
You mean anytime D fights in a sword video?
+Joshua Newton exactly. a little kid trying to be levi. lol
It's pretty effective though haha

Also, anyone else feel like NODE should do For Honor IRL?
I would be terrified if I was going up against D. He is the Meta Knight of the Node crew.
His moves only work because the other don't know how to fight, if he goes up to a professional of Kung fu or Hema, he would get himself cut into pieces
+when you look the comments i will be there just like anyone?
Tehidiotboys What i mean, is that spinning and dashing like D does is not always the best option
Everyone here with the exception of Brandon has been training in traditional sword fighting, If D wanted he would take this seriously.
theyre more about making it look cool instead of making it look traditional, every movie would be so boring if all their coordinated sword fights was actually based off of actual swordfighting
This channel brings to life everything I wanted to do when I was a kid. Keep it up!
D has some sort of hatred with hands
remove the hands and they wont be able to hold a blade. hands are the true weakness
Too much star wars
Or Niko needs to keep his damn hands out of the way of a swinging blade.
Winifield Gonzales how about fuck off you 4 year old.
He is Darth Vader
Sam's face. 6:44 Like a parent after witnessing his son's failure....
Man, how is D always coming through with those weird anime moves?
He'd get cut to pieces in reality but they always work here
BoarhideGaming Because he's better than the others. Except maybe Niko.
Either he's very lucky, or he knows when to do them. If you look at his spinning strike at 5:50, you can see that brandon was caught completely off-guard by his move. Niko and D fights are always so much awesome sauce!
8:32 That open palm left hand though, *MANGA STYLE*
This is so nerdy and I love it
I am really sick and tired of seeing this stupid "nerd" word. Do you want to be cool or something?
The price though
it's overpriced there are real quality bronze swords for 50$ extra.
Revan Ruler n
I have the same with ''cliché''
Skallagrim: *sees D's spin attack*
Skallagrim: *TRIGGERED*

The song you used in the background in the beginning of the video is the same one you used in your first D&D playthrough, ah the feels man!
what is the song ??? I need it!
7 Days to the Wolves - Nightwish
the opening song?
it plays through most of the video. yes
they also used it in their first sword fight video.

Yep
Though I was trained for a more traditional approach and not for competitive fights, so I could be wrong about it, merely saying what I was taught
Nathanael Paxevanos what would you say about the others?
No, you're definitely right.
Liam James Sam needs to keep both hands on the weapon and not let go, he also tends to overeach and become off balanced. Same thing with Brandon, and D has his legs a bit too far apart. Those are the bigger issues as far as I can see
I thought I could leave this video on in the background while I carry on programming,
I watched the whole thing damn it!
You guys need to do some proper fencing at some point.
this *is* proper fencing! theyre properly powering their strikes, raising to guard, disengaging and redirecting... heck, even most of their footwork is on point.
im a historical longsword fencer, and everything aside from the ward positions looks fine to me.

3:37 Sam sheathes the katana upside down. Attempting to look cool fail....
Then Niko does it too at 7:22
Katana rides on the hip blade UP guys!

**COUGH** Sam? Niko? Consider taking this to the Corridor drawing board
These videos are why I'm subscribed to Node. The child in me smiles every time!
I like how D uses the greatsword like a katana
The "long sword" is a multipurpose sword capable of being used in different stances. He is using one of them.
If it was a real greatsword out of steel he would break his wrist if he tried to fight with it like a katana. The style of fighting does depend on the weight of the weapon.
Lincoln 007 oh ok, i dont known much about swords(im more of and axe/hammer person) it looked like katana moves.....
also you never wield a katana one handed its classified as disrespect to its maker
Worfin i dont think any japanese would see it as disrespectful especially as there is many historical techniques for it and famous samurais who used them
D is getting more and more scarier....
*scary
Not really, his moves are straight out of anime and stuff, would get you killed back in the medieval ages. When he twirls, thats a clean shot for a sword to enter his hip.
Also, lets not forget, these dont have the real weight of a actual sword, meaning they are way easier to use and faster. When he used the greatsword, he was more offensive than he was defensive, which is a no no. A greatsword is all about defense, since you must go two handed and of the weight.
you should add shields.... that will change a lot the strategies... creating new moves for each one
KrystalicVorteX that is exactly what I whant to see
A Wakizashi might work but then again they can range from 30-60 cm so they would need to be around the same length for it to be fair.
OR even a tachi would work.
Completely false, a longsword or a katana doesn't require strengh to be used one handed.

well, I saw the price and my dream was crushed
OMG WE NEEDED ONE OF THESE EPISODES SO BADLY UGH THANK YOU
gotta make better use of that hammer shaft for blocking. Choke up and get in close.
Christopher Knorr thats the exact opposite way to use a hammer you want to stay back using sweeping swings kinda like D did
brice4348 a large wooden sahft wouldnt be that bad for blocking as it would take a ton of direct hits in 1 spot to weaken it
Johnny Green Face im not saying it isnt im saying getting close with a hammer that long is a bad idea and not how its suppose to be used your wanting to hit with the head with as much force in your swing as possible
*spin move with a cut to stomach and arm* "Sorry about your hand dude." *intense blood spilling*
I'm newish to the channel. Is D a trained swordsman? He and Niko both look like they know what they're doing.
No they just do this ALOT and play LOTS of video game.
Believe it or not you can learn to some degree on how to use/do something just by watching it.
This goes for video games as well.
they both practice a bit, and D is just the best at everything all the time
KingBongHogger San Niko and D have done sword classes in college.
Deathly Wraith Proof?
Michael Danger In their video of Katana Fruit ninja, they said it themselves.
In this video Niko learns why people fight with one hand behind their back. It looks awesome, and keeps your hand from getting cut off.
You guys should get Cold Steel stuff, it's heavier and stiffer than foam, and there are fewer trade kills.
