I find otzi to be one of the most fascinating finds in modern times. He was truly a highly educated man for his times. I find myself often wondering what important mission he was chosen to undertake where it left him stranded onto that mountain. Great work using rudimentary tools.
Thanks for watching. I completely agree with you. It's realy fantastic that we have such a well preserved find from such ancient times. I wonder what a huge amount of iteresting things is hidden from us in ices.
O_o bending it over while its still a sapling stuck in the ground?!? Genius. I had never thought of it. Seeing it once was immediate: "oh thats such a better way!". Espically without modern workshops with vice grips. You are using the root system as the far better anchor than squeezing it in your legs or something.
It didn’t work for me. I tried a wide variety of tree species at different ages, all of them snapped. Then I tried saplings heated over a fire before bending ,they all snapped that way too. I think it may be the wrong time of year where I am to try this.
@@wayfinderali I feel your pain. I tried to do it few times and found out that season is important. I made first attempts in winter and totaly failed. Spring and early summer are the best cause trees have a lot of sap these time and it much easier to bend them then.
@@wayfinderali also its important to make sure that you apply tension correctly. Usually I try to pull a stick during the bending rather than push thats why it's better to do it when tree isn't cut off the roots
Would it b posible for you to position the camera so as not to have the direct sunlight goin into lense? Other than thos end shots the rest was very good.an ur skill crafting the frame is also good
I used to like to whittle when I had all my fingers. In 1986 I lost the speed whittling contest along with two fingers. I said I could carve that blindfolded, nope I couldn't.
@@wyattcheatle7876 Oh, I see. No I didn't do such things. I made ewerything according to demensions and shape of materials I found. And sometimes trying how does it fit to my body.
I used to work both ways, but I like this one more. May be it is not the quiet traditional and correct way, however it is more convenient for me. May be that's because my other draw knifes have convax blades and I used to kontrol my blade's angle only with moves of the hands. But, anyway, thank you for your remark, advices from more skilled crafters are very usefull for me.

I'd rather buy one from Amazon as you can put stuff in them rather than some bits of wood on your back that holds nothing. That wasted 20 minutes of my time. Rubbish!!

He was hunted by a group of people. Maybe he raped one of their wives.
I don't care if you are left-handed. That was an excellent bit of bushcrafting.
Thank you

I found this method once because of lack of tools and now I prefere it to others. It is affordable in any conditions and without any special tool.

Hey!!! Thanks for watching! Salut to Indonesia!!!
Ötzi would have loved to have that viking draw knife. Heck, he was probably lucky to have had a draw rock.
Ha ha. Definitely. I think he woudn't refuse any of tools I'm working with here
@@lefthandedherman8702 👍
This is definitely on my to do list.
wow its amazing. How do you typically attatch a bag to it, kind of like a bucket bag?
Mainly I use one you see in the wideo and sometimes when i need something bigger I use a blanket roll.
Check out WayPoint Survival for a different bag for the frame.
No criticism; just different.
Nice video, wanna see more of it :)
Thank you!!! I`m working to produce more /

It's not a submarine
You should demonstrate proper use of a draw knife turn it over it will actually give you control of the cut by using the heal and toe of the grind
