I feel like every Skylanders puts less emphasis on the old figures. Even Giants, I felt no need to ever use the standard sized characters. There was no specific puzzles or anything that required them. That being said, I still really do enjoy these games and would run through one co-op with a buddy any day.
I can definitely understand the feel, especially with the game Imaginators which actively feels like it's going against any characters from the past in favor for the created character
I never felt previous skylanders are useless in Giants and Swap Force but in Trap Team, Superchargers, Superchargers: Racing and Imaginators, I really felt how much Activision wanted players to buy new figures and ignore the old ones.

You forgot to mention that this is the first Skylanders game that didn't have PVP Battle Mode, which was left out in every following game as well. Sure later games got PVP Racing, but it doesn't beat Battle Mode.
@@y2commenter246 Well I'm guessing it's because the Trap Masters and Eon's Elite were the most powerful of Skylanders, and pitting them against lower class Skylanders would just be unfair. I think the creators of Skylanders have said something like that when Superchargers came out. If that's the case, then I guess that's kind of understandable, but they could've easily fixed that problem by putting in a system where all Skylanders are equalized in PVP Battle Mode, to eliminate any kind of power imbalance! This isn't the first time a game has done something like this. For example, in Super Smash Bros, all of the characters are generally equalized (I mean, if they were all as strong as they truly are in Canon, then everybody would crush Little Mac! XD), so they all have an equal chance of winning, which all comes down to the players' skills and how well they utilize the characters' different abilities. It's the exact same case with Skylanders in PVP!
I clicked as fast as possible with this one. Tried Skylanders with my Nephew once, and I'd say it's ok for gameplay and a collectathon of all the figures. Cheers for this one man!

As someone that hasn't experienced a single Slylander's games, it's very interesting to see this review series unfold. Skylander's ended up dying in the end due to the rule of diminishing returns, so I find it very intriguing to see how this once popular series ended up in the red. Count me back in, mate.
While this game isn't perfect by any means, and a lot of the unused potential and things that felt lacking in certain areas did leave me feeling a bit disappointed, but I didn't let any of that ruin the game for me. This game charmed me constantly from start to finish, and I think that's the main thing that kept me playing! Other than the overall fun of the Skylanders game itself of course.
I think i've restarted this game over about 30 times and reset my characters 100 times! This was my first skylanders game and i have had so much fun with it over the years. Seeing it with a 4/10 score brings me sadness but there is nothing I can do about it considering it's your opinion and I respect it. Maybe it's my nostalgia talking but i've loved this game from the moment i bought it
If this was your first Skylanders game, then that means you didn't have the same problem that Square Eyed Jack did. Specifically the one where he said all characters from previous games are rendered useless in this game, and all that money spent on them was wasted as of now. So if you haven't collected any Skylanders from the first 3 games, and you started out with only Trap Team figures, then you didn't waste anything. Don't get me wrong, all the other characters are cool and whatnot, but I'd say this is a good position for a newcomer to the series to be in, so good for you!
It's my favorite game to I love all the boss fights and using the bosses I give it 10/10 in traps 9/10 in new skylanders 9/10 in music and 8 in post game content

Skylander Trap Team will always be my personal favourite in the series. It was the first one that I bought and played. It took a while for me to complete - a) due to being quite inexperienced with games in general and b) only having the starter two figures for a majority of the game. I suppose that that was why I liked it so much. At the time, I only had two figures (and the only ones I did get were older ones - they were cheaper - or one or two newer figures). I’d only seen glimpses of the other games and loved it. I was quite young at the time, so i wasn’t as critical and just loved the characters and all. From then on I played each game when it came out yearly. I also came across the previous three games (but I haven’t really played them much). I wasn’t as much as a fan of the next two games, the gimmick of driving/flying/whatever and Imaginators was just... eh.

I know your Imaginators review is quite a ways away, but in regard to Imaginators I'll say this much... While the game was very short and mostly lacking a lot of the stuff from past games even moreso than Trap Team (though not as badly as Superchargers), but the Custom Imaginator Creator feature alone definitely deserves some praise! Being able to create your own Skylander is easily the best part of the game, and it's one of the most amazing things to ever come out of the Skylanders series! I was honestly surprised by the amount of variety and versatility the custom character creator had to offer. I was a little skeptical when it was first announced, but it exceeded my expectations and had so much more to work with than I thought it would! At first I thought it was gonna be similar to the OC character creator from Sonic Forces, but nope, it was WAY better than that! You could customize just about every single detail to the point where you could create your dream Skylander almost exactly how you envisioned it! Not to mention you could also create Imaginators based on existing characters from other fictional series, if you have a creative enough Imagination to pull it off! (No pun intended) Now I know it's not the best custom character creator in video game history, far from it. It's definitely not as complex as say Fallout 4, but that's an entirely different game. It's still an insanely awesome feature regardless! But just when I thought it couldn't get any more awesome, I remember the limited time offer where you could order a custom-made Imaginator figure based on your own creation, which blew my mind even further! While we could argue that the quality of the physical figures probably wasn't as good as the regular Skylander figures (though the custom figures were contained inside a protective plastic dome, so it's not like they'd get ruined anyway), but just the idea of having your own OC creation being made into an official Skylander figure and sitting on your shelf is just plain awesome, and I'd say the $50 is worth it! The only thing that truly disappointed me about the Imaginator creation crystals, was that you couldn't change your Imaginator's Battle Class as it's a final decision, and I think we all know why Activi$ion made that deci$ion right?... Though luckily somebody discovered an exploit that resolves that problem, apparently there's a neat trick to reset the Crystal, which I think involves one of the past Skylanders games on a different console. It's confusing, but I tried it and it works! So while Imaginators itself is shorter than most of the past games (though I guess the expansion packs and everything to do in the extended hub-world did help make the fun experience last a little longer, even if most of it was just filler), mostly a downgrade compared to past games (though at least it tried more than Superchargers did), with a lot of things missing, but some new things added to maybe make up for some of it, it's still just as much fun as a traditional Skylanders game should be. As the title suggests, the main premise of the game is to use your Imagination, mainly with the custom Imaginator character creator, and if that was the main goal that the game set out to do, I'd say it succeeded at that, definitely nailed it! Not to mention the Crash Bandicoot tribute level "Thumpin Wumpa Island" was 100% awesome as well, and it paved a perfect road for Crash's Remastered N-Sale Trilogy which came out sometime after Imaginators! Speaking of paving roads, while the game's story was obviously not as well written as past games, but I think the interactions between characters in cutscenes definitely made up for that, as they had a lot more personality than they did in past games! I found them so enjoyable to watch, to me it felt legitimately like a TV show! In fact I'd say it paved a good road for the Skylanders Academy Netflix series, which I personally enjoyed! While the show often gets a lot of mixed opinions, but it's generally a good show for the most part. Definitely better than Sonic Boom, that's for sure. XD Sorry about that long ramble, sometimes I get carried away when discussing topics like this, especially since I haven't really discussed anything Skylanders related in such a long time, so I had a lot in me that I just needed to get out of my system. We've all been there right? I can't wait to see Square Eyed Jack's review of Imaginators, even though it won't be coming for quite some time, as there's at least 1 other game to come before it. But it'll definitely be worth the wait!
Awesome job on the video, man! I’ve only fully played through the first two games in the Skylanders series, and only like the first five levels of Swap Force. But from what I have experienced in the franchise, Skylanders was a very unique kind of experience for me when I was 10 years old. And to this day, I still look back at it with such fond memories. Heck, I even have a drawer that is filled with nothing BUT Skylanders collectibles! I even had just nearly every character and DLC from the first game.
Ender 01o Yeah, that was a good game as well! I got that game for my birthday in 2012, and I still have it. Same disc, same case, same copy, same everything! I even still have the box with the sticker that labeled it NEW for $59.99. Gosh, that was such a long time ago, and it doesn’t feel like it either.

This is my favorite possibly. I pretty much get happy whenever I see anyone talk about any Skylanders games but I for some reason liked this one a bit more.
Coming from a guy who has never played every game in the series, it's amazing to see what the other games were like. I only played Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure (Not to be confused with the European name of the third GBA Spyro game) Skylanders Giants and Skylanders Imaginators. I wasn't interested in the other 3 games as I was starting to grow out of the series at the time. In 2016 however, when I found out that Crash and Cortex were being featured in Imaginators as special guests, I was over the moon with that. It was a nice starting return for Crash Bandicoot and was enjoying the gameplay all over again. Of course I rarely play the games anymore and rightfully so because no more Skylanders games are being made and that TV series got cancelled after 3 seasons.
i still remember my first time playing trap team trying to open an elemental gate and being so disappointed when i realised it couldn’t be opened with core characters. easily my first “hold the f on” moment in video games

I saw this video 5 hours after it came out 2 years ago, and it was the video that convinced me to replay all the skylanders games. 2 years later, I have quadrupled the size of my collection, and it was one of the best summers I’ve had yet. I even got a friend to play them with me and we occasionally went hunting at used game stores for ones we didn’t have.
This is definitely my favorite skylanders game, everytime somebody talks about skylanders, it reminds me of 2013-2016 when i was OBSESSED with skylanders, i miss the good ol, days
Since you're playing SuperChargers in the next video, I hope you bring up the fact that if you're playing the WiiU version of the game, you can play as Donkey Kong and Bowser.
If you ask me, I'd say Superchargers was more of a lackluster disappointment than Trap Team was, with even more things missing from past games which kinda took away some of the fun as well. The game had a lot of potential, but hardly used any of it at all, and it just felt like an overall downgrade compared to every past game in the Skylanders series, including Trap Team. I can't wait to see your review of Superchargers and hear what you have to say about it!

I'm always confused when I see fans of the series say this is the best of the series. Trapping enemies is fun, but ends up being used as a meat shield when I'm in trouble during a level, and the trap team is ok but the change to the elemental zones hurt my view of them. The uselessness of the regular skylanders hurts, but this is a warning for the next two games as well, the only difference is they didnt make new regular characters like this one.
I respect your opinion. It's the most expensive game in the series and some things just didn't make sense but Trap Team still remains my favourite because of the many genius ideas it had. 💙❤️ I love the Trapping gimmick. So ingenious

If you think trapping Kaos isn't worth it. You can do a Nightmare Mode playthrough with Kaos. And they actually changed the Doom Raider boss fights a bit in Nightmare Mode. It is VERY HARD!!!
A idea that would pass the trap master gates is you would have to double the element to get pass, like you would need 2 of the small charecters, or a swap master of the element cuz they are the same element twice
For Superchargers, you might want to do the Wii U version because of exclusive characters that only the Wii U version can utilize: the Koopa King (Hammer Slam Bowser) and DK.

Skylanders actually looks like something I would really enjoy playing, but I can't get passed the fact that I have to collect a bunch of plastic garbage just to be able to experience the entire game
I would like to share my own opinion. I don't think the cores or traps are useless since (most) of the cores are really good and do a lot of damage,and (most) of the villains are good for when you run out of health or you just wanna clear out large groups of enemies. The trap sequences aren't actually useless,since,unlike in Pokemon where you just catch them,hear noises and then you use them,the sequences give the characters a bit of personality and charm,thing that makes them more fun to play as. And also,think about people who maybe didn't play the other games,therefore not having the old figures. Trap Team would be where they would start their collections,and i think Activision had that in mind. Also just a little thing about all Skylanders figures,each of them have different personalities (kinda...) and different moves. Just some of my opinions.
Although the smaller ones may be weaker, they have certain perks, Chomp chest has abilities to find gold for any of your skylanders that need it, broccoli guy s a Godsend for Nightmare mode because of his healing ability. But I've realized that some have perks while others don't.
I still remember heading to the store early in the morning to pick up this game on day one. It was and is the only game I ever pre-ordered. Giants was definitely the peak of the series in my opinion (although I may be a little bias since it was the first one I got). I didn't like Swap Force as much, but that was mainly due to subjective reasons like the art style. Trap Team is really where the series went down hill. I'd probably give it a 5.5, it's not a bad game, but it's definitely less enjoyable than the previous entries. I have very mixed feelings about Superchargers. It could've been a great game, but it was executed very poorly and crippled by an unusually short development time. I bought it a year or two after it came out, and I don't remember much about it (positive or negative). I bought Imaginators in summer 2018 for dirt cheap. It was a good deal all things considered, but I hate the game, and it's easily the worst in the franchise (3ds games included). I look forward to your next review, keep up the great work!

This was the game that killed my interest in Skylanders. I felt like all the time and money I spent on building my collection was just wasted. Whenever I revisit this franchise, I always go back to the first two games. Those were the best in my opinion.
I was wondering when you were going to get back to this series I just rewatched the others last month. Superchargers is the only one I haven't played but I do own it and a few figures. I still think Swap Force is the worst in the series though Imaginators comes in close just because of how expensive the figures are with two characters that come with a level each costing over a hundred dollars.

While we could argue that the quality of the physical figures probably wasn't as good as the regular Skylander figures (though the custom figures were contained inside a protective plastic dome, so it's not like they'd get ruined anyway), but just the idea of having your own OC creation being made into an official Skylander figure and sitting on your shelf is just plain awesome, and I'd say the $50 is worth it! The only thing that truly disappointed me about the Imaginator creation crystals, was that you couldn't change your Imaginator's Battle Class as it's a final decision, and I think we all know why Activi$ion made that deci$ion right?... Though luckily somebody discovered an exploit that resolves that problem, apparently there's a neat trick to reset the Crystal, which I think involves one of the past Skylanders games on a different console. It's confusing, but I tried it and it works!
So while Imaginators itself is shorter than most of the past games (though I guess the expansion packs and everything to do in the extended hub-world did help make the fun experience last a little longer, even if most of it was just filler), mostly a downgrade compared to past games (though at least it tried more than Superchargers did), with a lot of things missing, but some new things added to maybe make up for some of it, it's still just as much fun as a traditional Skylanders game should be. As the title suggests, the main premise of the game is to use your Imagination, mainly with the custom Imaginator character creator, and if that was the main goal that the game set out to do, I'd say it succeeded at that, definitely nailed it!
Not to mention the Crash Bandicoot tribute level "Thumpin Wumpa Island" was 100% awesome as well, and it paved a perfect road for Crash's Remastered N-Sale Trilogy which came out sometime after Imaginators!
Speaking of paving roads, while the game's story was obviously not as well written as past games, but I think the interactions between characters in cutscenes definitely made up for that, as they had a lot more personality than they did in past games! I found them so enjoyable to watch, to me it felt legitimately like a TV show! In fact I'd say it paved a good road for the Skylanders Academy Netflix series, which I personally enjoyed! While the show often gets a lot of mixed opinions, but it's generally a good show for the most part. Definitely better than Sonic Boom, that's for sure. XD
Sorry about that long ramble, sometimes I get carried away when discussing topics like this, especially since I haven't really discussed anything Skylanders related in such a long time, so I had a lot in me that I just needed to get out of my system. We've all been there right?
I can't wait to see Square Eyed Jack's review of Imaginators, even though it won't be coming for quite some time, as there's at least 1 other game to come before it. But it'll definitely be worth the wait!

Awesome job on the video, man! I’ve only fully played through the first two games in the Skylanders series, and only like the first five levels of Swap Force. But from what I have experienced in the franchise, Skylanders was a very unique kind of experience for me when I was 10 years old. And to this day, I still look back at it with such fond memories. Heck, I even have a drawer that is filled with nothing BUT Skylanders collectibles! I even had just nearly every character and DLC from the first game.

Coming from a guy who has never played every game in the series, it's amazing to see what the other games were like.
I only played Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure (Not to be confused with the European name of the third GBA Spyro game) Skylanders Giants and Skylanders Imaginators. I wasn't interested in the other 3 games as I was starting to grow out of the series at the time.
In 2016 however, when I found out that Crash and Cortex were being featured in Imaginators as special guests, I was over the moon with that.
It was a nice starting return for Crash Bandicoot and was enjoying the gameplay all over again. Of course I rarely play the games anymore and rightfully so because no more Skylanders games are being made and that TV series got cancelled after 3 seasons.

I saw this video 5 hours after it came out 2 years ago, and it was the video that convinced me to replay all the skylanders games. 2 years later, I have quadrupled the size of my collection, and it was one of the best summers I’ve had yet. I even got a friend to play them with me and we occasionally went hunting at used game stores for ones we didn’t have.
This is definitely my favorite skylanders game, everytime somebody talks about skylanders, it reminds me of 2013-2016 when i was OBSESSED with skylanders, i miss the good ol, days

If you ask me, I'd say Superchargers was more of a lackluster disappointment than Trap Team was, with even more things missing from past games which kinda took away some of the fun as well. The game had a lot of potential, but hardly used any of it at all, and it just felt like an overall downgrade compared to every past game in the Skylanders series, including Trap Team. I'm always confused when I see fans of the series say this is the best of the series. Trapping enemies is fun, but ends up being used as a meat shield when I'm in trouble during a level, and the trap team is ok but the change to the elemental zones hurt my view of them. The uselessness of the regular skylanders hurts, but this is a warning for the next two games as well, the only difference is they didnt make new regular characters like this one.

If you think trapping Kaos isn't worth it. You can do a Nightmare Mode playthrough with Kaos. And they actually changed the Doom Raider boss fights a bit in Nightmare Mode. It is VERY HARD!!!
A idea that would pass the trap master gates is you would have to double the element to get pass, like you would need 2 of the small charecters, or a swap master of the element cuz they are the same element twice

For the better games, you don’t need a heap of figures to see majority of the game. Trap Team is the biggest exception to that rule.

I would like to share my own opinion. I don't think the cores or traps are useless since (most) of the cores are really good and do a lot of damage,and (most) of the villains are good for when you run out of health or you just wanna clear out large groups of enemies. The trap sequences aren't actually useless,since,unlike in Pokemon where you just catch them,hear noises and then you use them,the sequences give the characters a bit of personality and charm,thing that makes them more fun to play as. And also,think about people who maybe didn't play the other games,therefore not having the old figures. Trap Team would be where they would start their collections,and i think Activision had that in mind. Also just a little thing about all Skylanders figures,each of them have different personalities (kinda...) and different moves. Just some of my opinions.
Although the smaller ones may be weaker, they have certain perks, Chomp chest has abilities to find gold for any of your skylanders that need it, broccoli guy s a Godsend for Nightmare mode because of his healing ability. But I've realized that some have perks while others don't.

I still remember heading to the store early in the morning to pick up this game on day one. It was and is the only game I ever pre-ordered.
Giants was definitely the peak of the series in my opinion (although I may be a little bias since it was the first one I got). I didn't like Swap Force as much, but that was mainly due to subjective reasons like the art style. Trap Team is really where the series went down hill.
I'd probably give it a 5.5, it's not a bad game, but it's definitely less enjoyable than the previous entries.
I have very mixed feelings about Superchargers. It could've been a great game, but it was executed very poorly and crippled by an unusually short development time. I bought it a year or two after it came out, and I don't remember much about it (positive or negative).
I bought Imaginators in summer 2018 for dirt cheap. It was a good deal all things considered, but I hate the game, and it's easily the worst in the franchise (3ds games included).

This was the game that killed my interest in Skylanders. I felt like all the time and money I spent on building my collection was just wasted. Whenever I revisit this franchise, I always go back to the first two games. Those were the best in my opinion.

I was wondering when you were going to get back to this series I just rewatched the others last month.
Superchargers is the only one I haven't played but I do own it and a few figures.
I still think Swap Force is the worst in the series though Imaginators comes in close just because of how expensive the figures are with two characters that come with a level each costing over a hundred dollars.
